After seeing the fertility specialist....
August 11, 2008
Well I just got back from my appt with the specialist. She told me that her main concern right now is my weight... not that I weigh too much, its that I weigh too little. I have never been able to gain weight, and it runs in my family to be thin (my biological father is 6'3" and only weighs 145lbs.). She told me that she wants my calorie intake to be 2200-2500 per day and drinking ensure and Carnation instant breakfast daily. She also told me that once I quit smoking I will gain weight, but I stopped for a year a couple years back and I didnt gain anything. Does anyone have any other tips on how to GAIN weight?
Also, I go back in on Monday Aug. 18th for another ultra sound but this one they will be putting a catheder into my uterus and filling it with saline. This one is to see if the dark spot they seen in my endo lining is a polyp or if is something else. After that I will be going in for an HSG. So far that is all that I know. Hopefully all of this will work out in the end because it is pretty overwhelming right now!

I had my HSG yesterday (8-25-08) the dr found out that my left tube is blocked. She told me that I will now have to go in and have it unblocked and if after the surgery it doesnt stay unblocked then they will probably take that tube out. She wont be able to do the surgery until October or November so I guess I am playing the waiting game again!
Hey Vanessa! Sorry about the HSG! I hope that all works out!
As far as gaining weight, try to eat alot of breads and pasta (carbs) and like your doc said up your calorie intake. That should put the weight on you pretty quick.
How old are you? I was like that when I was in my late teens/early 20's. Couldnt gain weight at all. LOL

Vanessa I am underweight and has been like this for a long time. I do have a child so I did get pregnant with him even though it took me 18 months to conceive him. When I started trying for baby#2, my weight was a concern for me as well but my obgyn told me that although I should try to gain weight, it's not such a concern once I do get my period and ouvulate!
Thanks ladies!
Laura, I am 21 and have been skinny for my whole life! So hopefully I will be able to gain just enough to make the doc happy.
Chels, I have been snacking and all that good stuff. I drink boost with extra protein and canation instant breakfast. I will def. try the peanut butter or cheese with crackers! That was one of my main concerns, I didnt want to gain really bad weight, since heart disease and hereditary blood fat run in my family I didnt want to increase my chances of heart problems later on.
Janet, It is a problem for me because I dont have regular cycles and as far as I know I do not ovulate. Hopefully once I put on a few pounds things will be back to normal.
I have quit smoking though so that should help a little, even though it seems that I am less hungry now that I dont smoke!

Vanessa, it will catch up to you in about 4 yrs! LOL
When I hit 25, I gained about 15 lbs. And I have lost a little but now I have to work at it to make sure I dont get flabby. I am 5'2 128lbs, so Im a good weight for my height. But if I drink a milkshake, I have to run that night or I'll see it in my thighs 2 days later, LOL!.

On the first visit it really wasnt anything big. If you havent had a pap for awhile they will do one and if you havent had blood drawn to see what your hormone levels are, they will do that too. But for the most part they will just sit and talk with you to find out what you have and havent done and your history.
Hope everything goes well with the specialist!

Thanks Vanessa. They did ask a lot of questions and decided we're going to start with a post-cotail (sp?) test this month and then an HSG test/x-ray. If dh's sperm count is not what the doctor thinks is good, then he will have to find out what his sperm count is. I've already done 3 months worth of fertility drugs (50 mgs of Clomid and 500mg of Metformin). So I guess we'll see.....How are things going with you?
