So much bad luck...

May 03, 2008

23, 1st pregnancy resulted in a surprise m/c at 4wks. Sad, but we werent as broken up as 2nd m/c at 8wks with a hb and everything growing perfectly. Currently going to GIVF to find out what is wrong with me and why I cant carry a child. After first meeting, doctor told us that it was probably just really bad luck. In the meantime, however, I am being tested for every single thing in the book, including genetic makeup. 2nd comprehensive meeting with doctor on the 16th of May... so we'll see how that ends up.

Annie I am sorry for your losses. I am also 23 and have had 4 miscarriages, but after seeing an RE since my OB said there was nothing wrong I am 26 weeks pregnant. I hope everything works out for you. All I had to do was take a baby aspirin, extra folic acid and progesterone as a precaution.

BTW my OB and RE did over 600 different blood tests and my OB said everything was fine but my RE told me that he saw 2 minors things that "may" have contributed, nothing big just a possible clotting issue and folic acid problem which with the above meds corrected it. The baby aspirin and folic acid you can get OTC just let your dr know before you start taking them.

good luck !!

Hi Annie! I think I can top you with having even MORE bad luck! hehe. I started TTC 4 years ago. Both Dh and I were 29. We didn't get pregnant for the 1st year so we consulted an RE. We were diagnosed with "unexplained infertility" and he recommended doing some IUI's, which failed, so we did 1 IVF and 1 ZIFT IVF (total $30,000). The ZIFT resulted in a twin pg but I miscarried at 10 weeks. I ended up having an incomplete miscarriage so I bled for 3 months afterwards and had to have a D&C anyways. Four months later I got pregnant on my own, but miscarried at 10 weeks again with a blighted ovum...I had another D&C for this one. I had a recurring pregnancy loss panel done and all they found was hetero MTHFR. I got pregnant again 4 months later, started the folic acid and giving myself heparin shots (blood thinner). I miscarried again, fell pregnant again 4 months later while on the vitamins and the blood thinners during conception, but I had my 4th miscarriage. My new RE did a hysteroscopy and saw the small fibroid I had was now 2.5 cm and might be causing the m/c's but he couldn't be 100% sure. I think a mixture between all the pregnancies and the hormone shots made it grow over the year. It was such a hard decision to make, but I was out of hope and I decided to have the myomectamy to remove the fibroid in Nov 2007. It was very invasive and the recovery was painful and long. We just started TTC again and I'm hoping for the best. We really have been struck with so much bad luck - infertility, recurring miscarriages, fibroids - it's been 4 years of hell and I'm so ready to move on out of the "dark ages" and move on to a promising future! I'm hoping for success for the both of us!

Thanks HopeN!!!

I should mention I am now taking Clomid, progesterone post ovulation, and I will be starting steroids after I get a BFP. (thanks to Dr. Q) Hopefully this will be the right recipe to help me keep my baby the next time!

I am also still seeing an acupunturist who specializes in infertility, which I believed helped me get pregnant on my own!
