How do I know what is "normal" discharge for 32 weeks- or that it could be a sign of amniotic fluid leaking?

hello all, and Good morning!

I am 32 weeks pregnant today.

I have been noticing an increase in "leaking" - every once in a while I feel a very slight "gush" of fluid and sure enough- my underwear are a little wet. I know that it is pretty common to leak a little bit of urine- especially when one has a full bladder, or when the baby shifts or stomps on the bladder but how do Iknow if what I am experiencing is "normal" or if it is something more concerning-like leaking amniotic fluid? Lately when I've noticed the fluid I don't THINK I have a full bladder- or even close, and it's usually when I get up from sitting, walking or when I go to turn over in bed. Of course my question and worrying arises on a SATURDAY when my doctor's office is not open! My next scheduled Dr. appointment is December 1. (they had to put it off a week since my dr has the entire week of Thanksgiving off). Your input is much appreciated!

Water Retention Mid Cycle

It seems like in the past year or so, right around ovulation, I have extreme water retention. Is this uncommon? I plan on seeing my GP about this but in the meantime thought that I would ask the question. I was on a cruise with DH last week, and my feet and ankles were horribly swollen. I do realize that it may have been worse due to airplane and tropical heat and humidity but it does seem to be happening monthly, midcycle. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Diluted OPKs???

I have a question. I thought I would be ovulating today (cd15) but I took an OPK an it was negative. I have been taking OPK's since dc9. All have been negative. I have also been tracking cervical mucus, but I have had very little all week, until today. I had a lot of ewcm today when I went to the bathroom. I was surprised to see the - OPK :( I did however drink a lot of water today. Could that have something to do with it being negative??? I test at 3pm daily.

This is my first cycle after a m/c

Thanks!

Shouldnt you go to the hospital after your water breaks?

My SIL thinks that she is going to get a pedicure to "kill some time" after her water breaks cuz some lady told her that her water broke at night and she didnt go into the hospital til the late morning the next day.

Is there something like a dry birth that is dangerous or was that an old wives tale?

Oh, wait, you may not even know the answer to this..... ladies???

Dr Q and ladies - How will I know when my water really does break?

I had a false alarm this morning and thought my water broke only to find out once I got to the doctors office that it had not. My underwear and pants were completely saturated and until I was told otherwise there was no doubt in my mind that my water broke. It was clear fluid, and a bit of mucous stuck to my pantiliner. It had a very slight odor, but def didnt smell like urine...anyway- my concern is now that since then I have been having wicked discharge, I would not say that I am leaking constantly but I am leaking every time I stand from a sitting position. I do not believe it is urine as I have leaked urine through much of my pregnancy and this is different. I have not gushed again like this morning. The discharge I am experiencing now is enough to make me wear a pad (not a pantiliner) and is accompanied by clear mucous at times....how will I know if my water really does break? I'm so confused!

Dr Q. and Ladies - water breaking, false alarm

So, I woke uop this morning to a slight feeling of wetness down there, when I stood up liquid gushed out, through my pantiliner, underwear and pants...I went to the bathroom and it continuted to leak consistantly for maybe 15 more seconds. It was clear, almost odorless, and there was a bit of mucous in it (I suspect semen as DH and I had sex last night) - anyway, I was sure my water had broken. I called the doc and they had me come in. She did 2 tests, one where she used a swab and it was supposed to turn blue if it was my membranes, it did not. She looked at it under a microscope and it did not fern. She then did an internal and said she felt the membranes in tact still. HOw can that be??? What the heck came pouring out of me?? I am almost 100% sure it wasnt urine, as it was colorless and almost odorless, no pee smell at all. I am still leaking a little, but not constant, and I know it could just be pee or whatever....but I just dont get it. Is there anyway that the doctor may be wrong???

Effects of Fertility Medication

I started taking fertility medication in September of 2007. I started on Clomid for 2 months, went straight to Femara for 3 months, skipped a month to have laparoscopy, and then started injectable follistim for one month. Therefore, since last September I have been on and off fertility drugs and I am wondering if these fertility drugs can affect my weight, water retention etc. I am an avid gym go-er. I lift weights 5 days a week and do cardio every day of the week. I drink a gallon of water a day. Since last September I have put on about 12 pounds. My body feels like it is full of fluid and I can't seem to get my weight back down. Is this a normal reaction to my body having synthetic hormones introduced intermittently over a period of months? I'm just wondering if I'm going crazy or if this can be a real side effect?

bulging water bag question...again! :)

Hi Dr. Q! I'm so sorry to be a pest...but... :)

I had posted earlier asking what it meant when the water bag is bulging and you said it meant that my water will probably break soon and that I should go to labor and delivery when that happens.... my new question is- when you say "soon", does that mean like within the next couple days? My due date is July 14th, any chance in me making it that long? I know you arent a psychic, I'm just trying to prepare! Oh, and will sex help make it break sooner?? Thanks a bunch!

Hi Dr. Q,

I had an appt today at 38 weeks 3 days and found out that I am 1.5 cm dilated and that my water bag is bulging. Doc says this is all good news and its shouldnt be too much longer now...but I wondered what "bulging bag of water" meant and if it means anything as far as when labor will start? Thanks!!!!

Your water HAS to break.. right?

I just want to make sure... your water does have to break in order for the baby to come out, right?

Being 90% effaced at home makes me a bit nervous.. but I'm thinking at least, I'd know it was time to go if my water broke, b/c once it breaks, I'm definitely in real labor?

So it does have to break, right? The baby isn't going to just fall out between my legs?

Okay.. I'm in serious pain tonight. I took two lortab... and I feel loopy.. but the contractions still hurt so bad that I can feel them and its making me nauseas.

Should I just keep sticking it out, unless my water breaks or I bleed? I feel really wet down there.. but its not gushing or anything.. so I don't think my water is broken or anything..

but how the h*ll do I know when to go in now?

Is it true that drinking a lot of water can help stabalize glucose levels?

My dad told me that drinking tons of water will help keep my glucose levels normal. (due to the gestational diabetes)

I've never heard anything like this before... is this something he heard thats not true.. or is there some truth in it?

How can you tell the difference btwn leaking amniotic fluid and normal discharge?

The dr at urgent care today asked me if I've been leaking any fluid.. and I just wonder.. how would I know? I've got a lot more clear, odorless discharge that has increased in the past month or so.. but I thought that was just normal with pregnancy.. so how would I tell if it was amniotic fluid or not?

internal ultrasound

Dr Q,

I am having an internal ultrasound done today. I am 6 weeks pregnant. I was wondering if I am required to drink any water prior to the ultrasound. I called my dr's office and they were not very specific. Thanks

Hi Ladies, I have my ultrasound tomorrow morning and I couldn't be more excited! I just wonder if any of you have tips in regards to drinking all that water without peeing! I was instructed to drink 60 ounces of water starting 2 hrs bebore my appt and finishing 1 hr before...my problem is that I will NEVER be able to hold it that long. So, what did ya'll do? Can I drink the water on the way to the appt and still have it do what its supposed to?? Any tips appreciated.... thanks!!!!!
