3rd trimester and Prozac

Hello.

My sister is in her 3rd trimester of pregnancy. She suffers from Depression and is starting to have panic attacks and thoughts of sucide. Her Dr put her on Prozac. Is this safe? Her baby is already small from her smoking throughout her pregnancy. What are your thoughts?

Tired 24 weeks pregnant - any one else

Hi, I am now 24 week pregnant and feel more or less tired all the time. It gets to the point that my eyes feel physically dry with tiredness. I could happily sleep every afternoon but don't let myself. I am not sure if I am anemic so have just had my bloods done to check. I am not working at the moment or doing much to warrant this feeling. Any one else in the same boat? Thanks.

baby measuring small in the first trimester?

Dear Doctor

Can a baby be OK if it is measuring small in the first trimester? and What would the cause of the small measurments be.

I had my first ultrasound today and I was able to see the heartbeat, however, my RE said the baby was measuring small. I am 7 weeks 1 day today but the baby is measuring at 5 1/2 weeks. The doctor said it looks healthy, but it is just smaller. I have to go back in two weeks for another ultrasound.

Thanks

Mary

Ok Dr. Q or any other Dr on FT/ladies, I have an ultrasound scheduled at 14 weeks excatly and I wan tot know if that is too early to have the gender deterimined?
What are the chances of an early pregnancy that is measuring behind catching up?

1st day of my niece's last period was Nov.1st. She took a home preg. test and it was positive. She has had some bleeding and cramping and went to ER. They have been measuring her HCG numbers and they are high and doubling. When they did an u/s the baby was traveling through the tube although told her she would not have an ectopic. The baby should be measuring 5 weeks but is measuring 2 1/2-3 weeks. My question is, given her HCG #'s, is it possible for the baby/embryo to catch up? Or, will she likely miscarry?

question about 1st trimester

I am 11 weeks and 4 days pregnant. This is my 4th baby so I thought I knew all the signs and symptoms of pregnancy. So far this pregnancy has been going very well,..

Suddenly, today, out of nowhere I got this horrible lower backache and AF like cramps.. They have been constant and I feel very uncomfortable as my back is throbbing so much... This is the first time I have experienced this in pregnancy.. At least both together like this and to come on so suddenly.. Is this normal?

I just have to ask!

Ok soo many people tell me oh its ok to have that glass of red wine while in the 3rd trimester, not that I have and not that I will, im just so tired of hearing people saying it.

Is it really safe?

Dont get me wrong I love my wine, but I of course havent had a thing while pregnant and I just dont think I could even think about doing it, but I hear it can be so healthy for the unborn babies heart just like it is for us.

I hear if someone is having trouble with pains or other things the doctor instead of prescribing something to take will say I would rather see you drink a glass of red wine before bed to relax you.

Really how much truth is there to this. I know my cousin had a glass basically a night, because her doctor said it was totally healthy and totally fine, she did this through the whole pregnancy, and there daughter is as healthy as can be, never gets sick or anything.

Anyways I had to ask, I just have to know!

Thanks ladies!

Question on Cervix late ion Pregnancy?

Hi All,

I hope you can help me out on this one... All day today I have been having a burning/twinging sensation in my cervix. I'm 37w3d pregnant today. I just went to the bathroom and noticed this big chunk (whitish yellow) with a red streak of blood down the middle (Not alot literally just 1 red streak). Just wondering if I should call my dr.? I dont know if this could be an infection or my mucus plug or if something is wrong with my little baby guy. I have been doing alot of cleaning today but I have also been resting alot too, I definitly dont think I over did it. Also, we are going to a wedding tonight (shoot me now!) and am wondering what I should do? Anyone know??

36w6d Pregnant Question!!

Hi Dr.Q and Ladies,

I have a question for all you. It's gonna be a long one so I apologize!

Anyways, back when I was 11 weeks pregnant I had a pap smear done at my 1st prenatal appointment and the result came back high grade abnormal. My doctor then scheduled me for a coposcopy. She didnt biopsy anything she just did a vinegar wash on my cervix to look at the cells. Which at that time she said were still abnormal. I was about 17 weeks pregnant at this coposcopy.

She then said not to worry and she would do a follow up pap smear in August. She said sometimes pregnancy can cause abnornmal cells on the cervix and it could possibbly be all the hormones making the cells come up abnormal.

So I just had another pap smear done in Augst at 33 weeks pregnant. I got the resukts back last week and they came back high grade abnormal again. The nurse called me and said they need to do another coposcopy. So I have another coposcopy scheduled for 1:30 today. I ended up going to the doctor yesterday because of increased swelling in my feet and ankles and I asked why I need another coposcopy and if it's safe this far along in pregnancy (I am 36w6d today). She said if the does the coposcopy and the cells are still abnormal they will have to induce labor this week. Does this sound like a normal procedure for someone who has high grade abnormal cells? I completely trust my doctor but I had not heard of being induced until just yesterday. Also, will my baby be ok being delivered between 37-38 weeks? I'm worried a little about his lung development. Ohh and what does high grade abnormal cells mean? Does this mean it's cancer or very close to becoming cancer? My doctor didnt seem at all concerned with the baby but she did seem concerned about the abnormal cells. Thanks so much for your help and any advice or information will be so helpful!

Ohh also, when I went to the dr. last week I was 1cm dialated and 70% effaced. Dont know if this might speed up the labor process since I am a little dialated and effaced.

chance of 2nd trimester loss....

I have no reason to be feeling nervous but, I am all of a sudden. I 15 weeks and still thinking I will miscarry. Lately my stomach has been feeling tender (which I think some is gas). I listen to the heartbeat almost daily w. a doppler. I have had 2 4-1/2 week miscarriages so I am soooooo far from that risk. I also have the 1st trimester fetal analysis done and everything looks good. I cannot explain why all of a sudden I am paranoid. THank you for letting me express my nerves! So, do you think I am still "at risk" with my miscarriages being so early? When did people with miscarriges finally relax????

Dialted and Effaced... What does this mean??

Hi All,

I went to the doctors this morning because over the weekend I noticed alot of cramping. It wasnt too bad but sort of frequent. Also I thought I may have lost my mucus plus on Sunday too. Anyways, I'm 35w6d pregnant today and I went to the doctors and had an internal and she said the baby dropped completely and she felt his head! She said I am 1cm dialated and 70% effaced and the baby was at a station -3 or 3... I cant remember what she said. Well of course I am a wreck! I'm just nervous about delivering so early because I'm only 36 weeks (tomorrow). Does this mean I am close to having the baby? Or is it normal to be 1cm dialated and 70% effaced for a while before he comes out? Anyone know? Thanks so much!

Iced Tea During Pregnancy

Hi Ladies!

This is such a dumb and anal question but I have to ask. I'm 35 weeks pregnant and have been very anal about drinking anything diet and with caffiene. I know both are ok in limited amounts but I am so anal I have been staying away completely. Well what about Iced Tea? I have had Arizona Iced Tea a few times and no where in the ingredients does it say caffien, but it doesnt say anywhere on the can caffiene free either. So what do you girls think? Does it have caffiene or not? Sorry for asking such a dumb question!

Tingling Sensations in Hands?

Hi Ladies and Dr.Q,

I have been experiencing something kind of strange for about the past week. At first I would wake up in the middle of the night with both hands asleep and I could not get them to wake up! The only way I could get them to go back to normal is to get out of bed and stand up and they wouold feel better. Then the second I would get back into bed they would fall asleep again... a pain because it's keeping me from sleeping! Well now I am noticing it during the day! Only during the day my finger tips get numb and tingly. What the?? Is this normal? I am 33w5d pregnant and I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I might call my doctor because it's really starting to drive me nuts! And usualy during the day when my fingers are a little numb it's only in my right hand... well this morning it's in both. Isnt this kind of weird? Hope someone can help! Thanks!

I'm feeling panicky... I just want my mind at ease!

Hi Ladies,

So the "panic monster" is starting to take over again... I wish I could just chill out with this pregnancy! So far- I've been able to re-calm myself down and convince myself that the chance of me losing this baby is very slim... but the past two days it's like no matter what I think- the bad thoughts always sneaks in and takes over. I will be 18 weeks tomorrow (Saturday)

I've had NO spotting, and the cramping I've had has been very minor and infrequent. I still have not felt the baby move, I also do not think I am "big" enough to be 18 weeks. I've had pretty consistant headaches which I know can be associated with 2nd trimester. Also, I have noticed that my breasts sometimes leak a little bit so I know there is some sort of milk/colustrom present. I have not felt a lot of round ligament pain- yesterday was the last time I really felt that. I know I am being over paranoid- but I am so afraid of losing this baby. My first pregnancy ended at 11 1/2 weeks with a D & C- the baby had actually died at 9 -9 1/2 weeks. I did have some brown spotting/discharge for about a week prior to going in to the Dr. My husband and I go in on Friday Aug. 22 for our ultrasound/Dr. Appointment but I am soo terrified that we will be told the baby does not have a heartbeat. Just typing this is making me cry! I can't get the nightmare of this out of my head! I don't want to call the Dr. and see if she can get me in early-hubby will be out of town most of next week- and I want him there- I don't want to find out that the baby does not have a heartbeat by myself again- and if everything is fine- I want him to be there for that too. Plus I feel that my Dr. is going to think I am nuts because I keep getting panicky for no reason.

I know that nothing will completely convince me that this pregnancy is perfect and strong- until after that little baby is in my arms- but I still have a long ways to go for that!

Brown Discharge at 32 Weeks Pregnant? Help!

Hi Dr.Q,

I'm 31w5d pregnant. The past 2 mornings I have woken up to a pulling and stretching feeling very low in my uterus area. Almost like I pulled a muscle. When I woke up this morning and went to the bathroom there was a clump of brown mucus. What could this be? I am praying not my mucus plus because it's way too soon for that! I have a doctors appointment this morning at 9:25... thank god! What do you think? Is this dangerous to my baby? Also I had an ultrasound done last week and the tech said his head is down very low so could that be causing the pressure and stretching/pulling sensation? Thanks so much for your help!
