Slightly high prolactin

HI Dr. I had my blood taken a few months ago. It revealed normal levels except a slight elevation in Prolactin and also one other hormone that has to do with the Thyroid(that one was slightly low) Sorry, I can't remember the name of that Hormone. They were only slightly off. My Dr said it shoudlnt be of concern, but he will keep on eye on it. Well, I am going on 9 months TTC now. Starting to get frustrated. I ovulate every month, and have regular cycles. DO you think this is what is keeping me from Conceiving? Should I book another appt with my Doc?

Thanks.

Thyroid Issues? Baby Measuring Smaller? EDD Changes?

So I have a friend who is about 4wks behind me....she started at 133 in her weight and is 131 still! Not gaining. She had been tested for low thyroid and it come back saying it was low.....tested again a week or so later and it was fine.....she's concerned that she will have low birth weight baby or premature labor.....the baby measures behind and they keep changing her EDD from March 10thish to start from her LMP now giving her March 21st....but that couldn't be lining up with her LMP etc....so what does this mean for her or the baby??? Can they give her meds to help with the Thyroid? To help baby catch up?? Could it be an abnormality?

any ideas?

thyroid and fertility

I have had hypothyroidism since 10yrs. old, I am now 24yrs old ready to start a family and I am at a loss as to where to start, the old fashioned way is simply not working.I understand that it wont be a simple as just wanting it to happen I have to actually work towards becoming pregnant. But are there other tests that I should be having or vitamins I should be taking?

My Journey

I am 24 years old and my husband is 27. We began talking about TTC in January 2008, so that month I stopped taking my birth control pills. I had to take BCP's because of another medication I was on for Rheumatoid Arthritis. As soon as that medication was out of my system, I stopped the pill and I began charting my temperatures and other fertility signs.

Soon after, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis which can cause problems with ovulation. Due to the charting, I discovered that I wasn't ovulating or having a period, but the doctors said it was because of the thyroid conditon.

In July of 2008, my thyroid levels were leveled out and normalized, but still I had not ovulated. Finally, the doctor did an ultrasound and said she suspected PCOS (Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome). The U/S and bloodwork confirmed it. The U/S tech said my ovaries looked like, "chocolate chip cookies," because of all the cysts.

Anyway, In July I began Metformin, but it didn't help because I am not insulin resistant like most PCOS patients.

In October, I began my first round of treatment with Clomid and it did make me ovulate! I am now in the 2 Week Wait for the first time.

what to ask gyno before going to the RE doctor

I have an appointment with my obgyn he is a high risk gynocologist and i am wondering what all test can i ask him to give before i am referred to the RE. The reason i am asking is because i have to use my reimbursement fund to pay for any treatments under the re and we are trying to see how much to take out for next year before insurance enrollment is over. Which is ofcourse a week before i see him. I can call him for the test. ( i have seen him for years and some test i have already had. HSg is one of them so i just want to make sure i am getting all the options before paying extra. I am 41 and the last month i noticed my lh surge really low so i am going to ask him about clomid, hsg test for block tubes and to see if i can get my eggs counted and of course blood work. My thyroid is controlled or pretty low my Endo doctor is rushing so i need to know what to do.

Can you get pregnant and carry to term with Hashimoto's thyroid disease?

I have been ttc for two years and have had two miscarriages.. one blighted ovum and one chemical pregnancy.

My tsh is around 2 so it's ok but my antithyroid antibody count is off the chart. I see a reproductive endocrinologist who is not concerned about the antibodies (he said that's just proof it is hashimoto's but won't effect fertility) but every thing i read says different.

have you or do you know any one who has hashimoto's and had a successful pregnancy?

Question about Thyroid harmone

Can pregnancy and child birth cause thyroid to disfunction or if one had mild thyroid issues, can it get worse?

My TSH has always very much normal, In 2006 and 2001, the 2 different endocrinologists did write : Goitre in their notes, but no treatment required. In 2001 they did a bunch of other Thyroid tests and all was normal and in 2006 as well. They mentioned the gland is 'slightly enlarged' I should mention a few people in my maternal family had their thyroid removed or have them slightly enlarged with no treatment required.

thyroid and pregnancy....

Well i recently found out that my body is attacking my thyroid like its a foreign body. My level of antibodies should be 9, but its 2000.

Could damage to my thyroid make it difficult to have another baby?

Also, do you know anything about thyroid meds and their safety in nursing or pregnancy? if not, its okay. I just thought i'd try to ask

need help from a doctor if possible!!! :(

I am currently on cd 124. I cannot go to the doctor for another week to two weeks due to a problem with my insurance. I called to see if I need to make an appointment or not (as I have irregular cycles regularly lasting up to 4 months). I was told that I could have a cyst and that the doctor will want to do ultrasounds as well as blood work. I want to be prepared for anything, so I started looking into the symptoms of cysts, and found that I do not have most of the typical symptoms short of irregular cycles and a hormone imbalance. I have been charting on fertility friend, here is my chart... http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/21807d

The symptoms that I have had since ovulation (or when fertility friend says I ovulated) have been...

nausea in the first 2 weeks after ovulation (which is a typical pms symptom for me however, it has returned several times since)

frequent urination (which seems to happen more frequently with time)

tender nipples (until about a week ago when it started to diminish)

adversion to certain foods (due to becoming nausous from the smell)

headaches (mostly in the last week)

emotional (more so than usual)

feeling bloated (since about a week or so after ovulation)

Weight gain (6 lbs)

decreased appetite (first few weeks after ovulation)

increased appetite (last 3 or so weeks)

spotting (lightly only after wiping on several occasions usually after intercourse (which was not rough) sorry tmi)

I took 4 hpt's a week apart from each other in July and all were negative. I have not taken one since then.

I was on birthcontrol until December 2007 when I married my husband. I know that there is a possibility that I could be having a late period due to my body still trying to regulate after coming off the medication.

I am really worried, but as I said, I cannot go see a doctor for about 2 weeks or so, so I am trying to reasearch on the internet. I am keeping an open mind about what could be going on, however, I would like it if someone would be able to point me in the right direction to do my reasearch.

I have not been diagnosed with pcos, and have never been diagnosed with a cyst. I had an abnormal pap in may and need to do a repeat, I have a slightly increased testerone level, as well as a lower than normal estrogen level, but no obvious symptoms, and the only pain I get is breast pain occasionally, as well as slightly larger that normal breasts lately, and a slight pelvic discomfort (not pain) on occasion.

I greatly apprieciate any help that can be given, I hate worrying about what is going on.

Thyroid issues

My OBGYN has suggested we take this month off from trying to conceive as my TSH level came back at 19. Is this a dangerous level for a pregnancy. I am awaiting the results of a more recent TSH test, hopefully later today. My dr unfortunately contacted me after I had begun chlomid for this month, so should I assume that this is a wasted month.

I want to get pregnant.

My family and doctors believe I may have PCOS and I really want to conceive.

I have been married 6 months and we have been trying the entire time. But it seems as though I don't always ovulate. If I am maybe Im not catching it. how can I concieve, and catch my ovulation with out spending so much on ovulation test. Not sure its important but I am 20 and I have a majorly underactive thyroid.

TTC with Thyroid levels of 12

I have a 12yr old son and had a miscarriage in Feb. Dx with Graves disease at age 17-now 31(switch between hypo/hyperthyroidism after thyroidectomy at age 17). TSH results last wk. were 12 (on synthroid .112mg). Increased to .2mg on 7/30, but told to finish rest of .112mg have left-am taking 2 pills of .112mg daily now until Wednesday when new RX is filled. Found out that levels have to be between 1-2 to conceive and maintain a pregnancy. Have been TTC since miscarriage-thought July would have good chance according to BBT chart. My cycles are reg. 26 days since Feb. from 28 days lasting only 2 days. My BBT chart says I have a luteal phase of 10days with ovulation on day 15. Someone told me to check with your site to make sure of this, because this may not be enough time for implantation to take place. Please let me know my luteal phase, and how long it will take for my TSH levels to get down within normal range (0.3-5.50), so that I may be able to conceive this month or Sept.(my period was July 5th-6, and July30th-31st). I know that I have been ovulating by CM signs-my doc does not want to refer me out unless I have another misscarriage. Seems to think there is not a prob. with me getting pregn. or having another misscarriage unless it happens again. [also on topamax 200mg daily for migraines, but stop it 3 days ago] Could the topamax have an affect on TTC as well too?

My journey

My journey begins October 07, when I went of my bcp. No AF for three months, and underactive thyroid issues. THe thyroid is now under control with medication. After one round of progesterone and clomid, a 21 day progesterone test revealed no O. I am now on my second round of progesterone to force AF and clomid 100mg this time. Praying for O this month.

TSH HORMONE LEVELS

Hi Dr.Q, My RE checked my thyroid levels and they came back 2.8. I know that it is within normal levels, but about ten years ago it was .7 and just a few years ago it was 1.7; so my question is as i get older(37) is my thyroid going to keep climbing and is that just normal? Are there natural alternatives to help increase its ability to work properly? I already workout and are a healthy weight, i eat well too. thank you so much for your time.

over-replaced thyroid

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism several yeasr ago and prescribed Armour thyroid.

Two months ago my new endo (not an RE) switched me to Levoxyl even though my TSH and T4 levels were normal and I felt fine on the Armour because she says that "nobody" takes Armour anymore.

Now bloodwork done this week shows that on the Levoxyl my TSH os 0.1 and T4 is 2.7 - both which I understand to indicate that I am now over-replacing my thyroid. My Endo is cutting back the amount of Levoxyl I take, but I just finished a round of Clomid (prescribed by my OB to treat PCOS) today and now I am wondering if I should A)go back to the dose of Armour that was working fine before the endo started mucking about and/or B)not TTC after all this cycle because my hypothyroidism is no longer under control.

This is so frustrating!
