Clomid, Metformin, or Femara. Where to start?

Hi Doc. I've been on this site for a couple weeks now and have learned a lot from all these brave women. To keep it brief here's my deal. I have had missing or irregular cycles since coming off birth control in January. In July I was disgonsed with PCOS. I was told they found multiple small cysts on my ovaries with an ultrasound, but my BW said my hormone levels were ok. My Doc wanted to put me on birth control again to regulate me, but I asked her not to because we wanted to start TTC. We only really tried once in October after my last AF which started October 7th. I have not had AF again since then. I made an appointment to see my Doc on Decemeber 3rd. I am going to ask to start some treatment. I don't want to wait. Do you think it is a good idea to start with metformin to address the PCOS first and then see if I ovulate, or is that just wasting time? Will I only be put on clomid after that anyway. I read on a post somewhere that Metformin is not for women with PCOS who have normal hormone levels. My symptoms with PCOS are just basically missing or irregular periods and a slow metabolism (I can't lose weight as i used too, but that could also just be my age ((32)). I do not have any issues really with acne or facial hair either. I also learned that clomid has more difficult side effects, like bad headaches, and gaining weight. Femara sound pretty good. I'm so comfused. I know my the best thing to do is wait until I see my Doc, but I just want to be clear on each of these drugs and what they can do first. Any information you can give would be great.

What days to take Clomid, 3-7 or 5-9?

What difference does it make if you take clomid days 3-7 or 5-9? Is it true there are more eggs days 3-7 but 5-9 is more stable?

Let's Get It Started

Ok. So today is day 6 after my miscarriage. I am still bleeding very light now. So I'm guessing in just a few days it will be less. I went out today and bought a few OPK's first time using them. First time ttc. This time I pray my pregnancy has a better outcome. I want a baby now really badly. When I was being checked dilating my doc said everything was healthy and I should not have troubles conceiving again. Although at the time I was 15 weeks pregnant, and nearly 7 years of unprotected sex with only 1 other pregnancy a chemical. N E Who, Hopefully something in the next 2 weeks after bleed is gone I will baby dance the nights away and hope for the best. I am also trying to keep stress down so fingers crossed ladies. I'll keep ya posted.

I was wonder if 5-9 or 3-7 really makes a difference is how the egg is developed or not. Does the day in which a person starts matter?

When does one begin birth control pills for IVF?

hello,

I'm waiting for the dr. to call me back but in the mean time I was hoping you could help. I'm on 13dpiui with a BFN and trying to come to grips with the idea that I will probably need to do IVF next cycle. Usually I go in for day2 U/S and begin meds (follistim) for IUI on cd3. I'm wondering if I wait for cd2 or3 will I be late taking the birth control for suppression since the pill is usually started on the 1st day of one's cycle (might be different for suppression..I don't know). THANKS!!!

Unable to conceive... feel like a failure

Hi There:

I just recently joined this site. What a great idea! Well my husband an I are approaching two years of ttc with no success. We have been referred to a fertility specialist in our area and expect to get an appointment within the next 2 months.

We have already had loads of tests done: ultrasounds for me, laproscopy which showed everything to be normal, 14 day ovulation test, end cycle blood test, semen analysis. Everything has turned out normal so far, which frustrates me even more because I can't understand why it is taking so long.

Meanwhile like many of you have experienced I'm sure, I am surrounded by pregnant people and repeatedly reminded of that fact that I am childless. Even harmless conversations like discussing hobbies turn ugly when I am told that I am the only one that has time for hobbies because I don't have a child. At work I am often volunteered for extra curricular activities which will run later into the evening because I have no children to go home to.

I feel like a complete failure!

OPK's

Hey ya'll...I am on Cycle Day 8 and was wondering something....I have read that some people ovulate really early and then others late. I know when I used OPK's one month I o'd late. I have been reading aboout Clear Blue Easy Fertility monitors and one reason they are so great is b/c they catch early detection and visa versa. This month I want to use OPK's and I know that one is supposed to O about day 14 or so, but should I maybe start using now to figure out when I really do O.

Ways to get labor started...

Since a few of us are getting close to our due dates... and people are already giving me all the advice they've heard to go into labor....

I thought it would be fun to hear all the ways you ladies have heard to get labor started!!

These are the ones I've been told

1. Walking... b/c it opens up the pelvis and helps the baby drop down farther

2. Sex...b/c of prostaglandins in the semen, and contractions from orgasm

3.Stimulation of the nipples..b/c it starts contractions

4. Castor oil (This is supposed to start contractions too.. but someone recently toldme that you can get charged with child neglect/abuse if you get caught doing it!)

5. Walking with one foot on the curb and one foot on the street. (That one doesn't sound true to me! But.. hey.. the stuff people tell you!)

Dr. Q: injections?

Hi Dr. Q,

I plan to start injections and IUI this cycle. Was wondering when in the cycle one should begin injections? Not sure which ones I will be taking so it might be different depending on the medication. I took clomid for 3 months when ovulating on my own (no monitoring with ultrasounds or blood work, RX from obgyn). Now with an FE who mentioned beginning injections with IUI this cycle and I am wondering what those injections might be. I'm on cd1 today and did put a call into the office.

I'm 36 years old, husbands sperm was good, hsg test was good, my LH was 18.1. I'm doing day 3 FSH and ultrasound on Friday and hoping to begin injections then as well. I'm wondering what you would recommend at this point. THANKS so very much for all your help!!!!
