Starting Clomid

We've been trying for a year and my obgyn wanted to start me on Clomid, she thinks I have luteal phase defect. First we had to get a semen analysis. And my husband had bi-lateral varicocele. His sperm count was a slight lower than normal and the motility was only 25%. He just had surgery last Friday to repair it. Hopefully it works. I just started my period today. Should I call my ob to see if she wants me to start clomid this month or at least give her a heads up of whats going on?

Sperm morphology and chromosonal abnormalities

My husband has 1% normal sperm. We do not know the cause of this, but about 10 years ago he was on very high dose interferon for a year.

We never expected to get pregnant on our own, but still wanted to try, so I take my BBT daily and on our 4th month trying (Sept.) I got my first positive and it was confirmed by a blood test at the Drs. The hormones were low though...23. I started bleeding and having heavy cramps yesterday. I believe it was a chemical pregnancy and the Dr will confirm it tomorrow. Could my husbands sperm issues be causing this? Will this happen continuously? Is abnormal morphology linked with chromosonal issues or DNA being messed up in the sperm?

Dr. ? about timing and BD with slowed sperm

Hello!! This morning I got a +OPK and I know that it is good to BD right away so that the sperm are waiting for the egg. We were told that DH's sperm slows down after 24 hours so I'm wondering how soon we should BD after getting the +OPK. Dr. mentioned a 68% and that it wasn't a big issue. Now that I'm thinking about I don't know if that means 42% of the sperm slow down but the rest do fine or the other way around?? THANKS!!!!

SA colletion

Hello Dr Q. I have an embarassing question, but I hope you can help me: my husband has to do a SA sample collection and the fertility clinic told him that no lubrication is accepted. They didn't hear about preseed (which we use while ttc). He can do that through manual stimulation or with a condom that they provide. Is it true that no lubrication is permited? If this is the case, it would probably be very dificult... Thank you for your answer. Any suggestion is very appreciated.

Hello Dr Q!

Could you please tell me, can a flu vaccine shot or any (OTC like tylenol, ranitidine, omeprazole) influence a SA done a few days (3-4) later? (sorry if it's a childish question, I thought - better safe...) Thank you in advance. Best regards.

Rasing Sperm Count

Hi everyone.. I haven't posted in a couple months... since my first IUI in June. we just had our second one this past saturday and I had to share!

My husband has a low count from previous cancer treatments. His intital test he had a count of just under 2 mil he began taking an organic supplement called Tribulus. At our first IUI his count had gone to 2.5 mil. Obviously not high enough but we thought we would give it a go. Then we took 2 months off and he kept taking his Tribulus. This weekend his count had risen to 8.3 mil!!!! I can't guarantee that the pills did it but there really were no other changes~

I just wanted to throw it out there. In case anyone is in the same boat. We were planning on making this our last IUI before we moved to IVF but since his couint went up so high we decided if it doesn't work.. were are going to go for another round!

DOCTORS AND LADIES!!!!! sperm meets egg plan

I am 10dpo this today but got a bfn so I am researching the sperm meets egg plan and I am planning on using it next cycle! I am confused though because it says to BD every other day and when u get a +opk to baby dance 3 days in a row adn then skip one day and do one LAST try the next day. Does that mean that after 5dpo you cannot have sex untill a positive htp or next cycle? I hope this is not a stupid question but I want to make sure I DO IT RIGHT!!! thanks girls!

Clomid for Men

Dr. Q,

I am confused! Everything I have read says that Clomid isn't really all that effective for men. My DH had a S/A done once and I guess it was so bad he was referred to a urologist who by the way does specialize in infertility. Well the urologist ordered the results to be faxed but in the meantime prescribed Clomid. Why would he have done this? The counts were within normal but morph is real bad and liquification is not within norms. Should I let my husband take the Clomid just to "see what happenes"?

Question about CM...

Ok, so DH and I have officilly started BDing. He's as into it as I am. Although not quite as obsessed... My question is about my CM. So I wasn't sure if I had CM already, but I believe at D10 of no more bleeding, I started to have very light CM, but I could tell it wasn't quite there yet... however we did BD the first time that day, at D11 I had a bit more CM and we BD'd because we were just in the mood... on D12 I had a ton of CM and it was precisely egg white consistency.. however we did not have time to BD... We BD'd again on D14 of no bleeding and i had already started to not have as much CM starting on D13... so I'm thinking I either O'd on D12 or shortly there after right? (that's assuming if I remember correctly that I O 24-48 hours after seeing that much CM.

So my question is do you think its possible that I did it in enough time? How long does Sperm live for and if I BD for the 2 days before I had the most amount of CM is it possible I could have done it in enough time to get Pregnant?

Sorry for rambling on..hope I made my question cleear enough to be answered.

Be sure to check this out:

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2008/09/small-study-sug.html?loc=interstitialskip

Disturbing! I hope it's true because at least that would be a known reason why sperm quality is bad, and hopefully it's reversible!

Any doctor care to chime in on this?

Adjusting IUI protocols?

Hi doctor,

My husband and I understand that we may have to resort to IVF/ICSI to get pregnant, if IUIs continue to not work. We want to move progressively toward ICSI, and make it our last resort, if there's any reasonable chance of getting pregnant via less invasive means, such as IUI.

We're dealing with low sperm count (3 million post-wash) and sometimes low motility (anywhere from 40-60%).

Given that we want to gradually increase our procedures, does it make sense to try IUIs with meds such as Clomid and/or tropins? Given the sperm issues, would it increase our odds, or would it be a waste of time?

Many thanks!

Question about post-wash sperm...

Hi Doctor,

Does post-wash motility mean that only THAT percentage of washed sperm are motile, or is that the percentage of total pre-wash ejaculate?

For example, the doctor today injected me with 3 million motile sperm, and the sheet he gave me said 41% motility. Does that mean that only 41% of the 3 million are swimmers, or is that 41% of the pre-wash count?

Please clarify, as I'm trying to understand the quality of the sperm that I was inseminated with today. Since the count is low, I'm interested in whether they are at least of decent quality.

There is hope: The doctor told me that they have seen pregnancies with 3 million sperm for IUI.

Anyway, thanks for answering my question!
