Secondary infertility

I got pregnant the first time very easily. We conceived our daughter two weeks after stopping the pill. Since her birth 19 months ago we haven't been able to have another child. (No birth control ever used since her birth) I had a laparascopy 2 years before I became pregnant. Most recently I've had lupron depot injections to get rid of endometriosis and on top of endometriosis I have pcos but don't fit the physical aspects of the disease although I have irregular cycles.( I do take metformin) Since its so hard to get pregnant the second time around, does it mean when I try to have baby #3 and #4 it will be just as hard? Thank you!!

Trouble conceiving a second child

Hi, my husband and I have been trying for a year for a second one and had no success. I calculate my ovulation period and also tried the Ovu Kit but no use. One thing I do notice is that after intercourse, the semen would continue to come out for as long as two days. (we have intercourse every other day during the 7th-14th days post cycle)

Is my body rejected his sperm or something? We conceived our first child just a few weeks after I stopped the pill and right before I thought I was getting my first period post stopping the pill. I haven't been on any form of birth control nor do we use protection since then.

What should I do? Should I see my gyno about this and get tested? Thank you so much. We very much want to have another child so the two kids aren't too far apart. I'm 29 and hubby is 31.

help

Dr.Q,

I am very concerned. I recently read a post of yours that said that infertility just happens. I am starting to resent my husband because he's just not ready to start a family yet. Are you saying that a perfectly healty woman can just go infertle? Is there something that can prevent this, and what does a person look for?

Kelly's Journey With Secondary Infertility

Well I'm no stranger to this website but this is the first time I have posted my Journey. My issue is with secondary infertility.

After I had my daughter, Samantha, (who is 4 1/2 years old) I didn't think I would have any problems conceiving a second child. After all, even though I have always had irregular periods and my brother and I were both conceived with Clomid, I had barely been off the pill for a month before I found out I was pregnant. I was 2 months shy of my 28th birthday when I had her.

I'm now 32 and have been TTC for about 14 months. I had a miscarriage last January after 2 days of knowing I was pregnant. I don't count that pregnancy in my TTC months because it wasn't a sucessful conception. After my miscarriage, my OB advised me to wait 2 months before TTC again so my husband and I resumed efforts in April, which was my first month on Clomid. three unsucessful Clomid cycles and 1 cyst later, my OB referred me to an RE.

He determined that at the time I went to see him I was too far into my cycle to start Clomid so he had me do an HSG that month. My tubes are open and I had no structural abnormalities to speak of. My husband also had a sperm analysis that determined his sperm count is high with good motility and morphology. Therefore, I just waited for a new cycle to start to call the RE.

CD 3 bloodwork revealed a high estrogen level so I had an ultrasound but no cysts were visible. My CD 11 unltrasound revealed 1 developing a follicle and was on target to ovulate on CD 15. When I went back for an US and PCT on CD 13, however, the follicle was gone so the Doc explained that I may have ovulated early. Meanwhile, my PCT revealed no problems with sperm navagation through CM so I made an appointment for bloodwork the following week, which determined that my progesterone level was almost non-existent. Next month the RE upped my Clomid to 100 mg and once again CD 3 bloodwork revealed high estrogen but no cysts were found. At my CD 11 ultrasound though I had what looked like either a large follicle or a cyst so I was given an HCG injection and told to BD that night. Unfortunately, I started bleeding pretty heavily after that and havn't stopped yet. In response to my dillemma, I was put on birth control pills and will get injectables when a new cycle starts.

Believe me I thank God every day that I have 1 health child already but it doesn't erase the desire for another baby and the disappointment with what's happened in this attempt. My heart goes out to everyone who has had to experience infertility at any time in their life. Please tell me there's light at this end of this tunnel.

I feel like My Body is Playing Tricks on Me

I have been trying to get pregnant with our second child. I have unexplained secondary infertility. I dont get my period on my own without the Provera. On Saturday I had a little bit of spotting I wiped once and it went away, then the next time i went to the bathroom it was gone. And Since then I feel like I have been having Symptoms of early pregnancy. On Saturday and Sunday I feel like my breasts were throbing. My mouth was salvating, and I was just feeling really weird. Now today its seems liek those symptoms have gone away. I have the occasional breast tenderness and pain, more like a tingely feeling. And right now the only symptoms i am having is your can clearly see the viens in my chest( I have never noticed them before)I am having a very hard time staying asleep at night. And for the past couple of days I have been having slight cramps, but mostly i feels like a bloaty/stretchy feeling in my lower abdomen. I dont know if I ovulated this month or not, and I took a pregnancy test on Sunday and it was negative. The ony thing that concerns me is that i feel like my uterus is a ballon and getting bigger. Should I be Concerned? Has anyone else ever had these symptoms and then ended up having a postive pregnancy test? A Doctors hel pwould be great!!! Thank you so much!

Low progesterone.

I have secondary amenorrhea and have just completed my second round of clomid with no success. I'm in need of some help/advice as my gyno is away on long service leave and I'm very confused.

I take ralovera-progesterone for 7days and then wait for a withdrawal bleed, I then have been taking clomid days 5-9. Between day 20-25 I then have a blood test to find out if i've ovulated. Both times now it has come back at 3.2? Does this mean the progesterone is not working? Is there anything I can do to increase my progesterone levels?

Journey Update

Ok, so I had my first re apt today. As some know, we have secondary unexplained infertility. On cycle 19 currently. We will be doing a critical sa for dh..then starting a combo of clomid 100mg cd 3-7 mixed with some injectables (follistim 75 iu) and hcg shot with iui 36 hrs later.

Gosh this all seems so overwhelming..so if anyone has advice, it would be much appreciated!

My re is big on not over stimulating...guess thats why we are doing clomid w/ injectables instead of injectables alone.

Babydust to all!

Success rates dropping post clomid....

Hi Dr. Q~

As you probably know..we have secondary issues conceiving another. First was quite easy. On cycle 19 now. We did clomid for 5 months and am now on a break cycle b/f probably moving to injectables. Now, I've read that after 5 or 6 cycles of clomid, once success rate drops. Does this mean your odds don't improve anymore OR that being on clomid for so long lessens your chances? Just curious on my chances for this cycle given that I do o on my own and sperm ct is great....

Thanks so much!

There goes 18th month ttc for #2 :-(

So...temps are down, 13 dpo..cramps..sure af is on her way. That was 18th month ttc for #2. I just don't get it. Our son came on try #1..what is going on???

The tests we've done to date are: sa, hsg, cd 3 and cd 21 labs, follie/lining checks. I really don't know what else they could possibly test for. Eggs and sperm look great, its just not happening. We've only conceived 1 time in 18 months and it was chemical.

So, I guess for February, we are done with clomid and iui...I ovulate on my own anyways...then at the end of Feb..we meet with specialist. Don't know if they will suggest iui with injectables or move right to ivf. I just want whatever is going to give me more of a chance, probably ivf???

Thanks for listening to me vent...if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Baby dust to all!!!!!!!

Post coital exam for secondary unexp. infertility

I've often wondered about having a post-coital exam done... but have always been doing iui's the last few months so the timing didn't work to bd before going to dr.s.

Anyways, Dr. Q...would this be a good exam for me to do b/c we have unexplained secondary inf? No probs conceiving first born. Would my ph change that much in 3 yrs? My diet/exercise is relatively the same.

As always, thank you for your help!

Yeah, my doctor's office just called, and....

They are going to allow me to do double iui's again next week! Its not normal protocal in their office..but since I got preg by iui in October (chemical)...they are going to give me one more shot. If this doesn't work, its onto a specialist. I do have a good feeling, this is going to be it!!! Wish me luck!

To IVF or Not to IVF...that is the question for Dr. Q

Ok..so we've been ttc baby #2 for 18 months..#1 came on first try..no meds. We have unexplained secondary infertility. Dh sperm count is great. My eggs are big and I do ovulate on my own. All hormone levels look great. We are headed on round 5 of clomid and 4th iui. The second round of clomid/1st iui ended in chemical pregnancy. We are considering ivf but do not want multiples..and are concerned with all the shots/medications..as I tend to be pretty holistic. If I was your patient, Dr. Q, would you suggest ivf or try a few more times naturally if this last iui shot doesn't work? I appreciate any feedback!

Thanks so much and happy New Year!!!

IVF question

I know its a general answer...but roughly, what are my odds at a shot with ivf? I am 27 dh is 30...we have 1 child conceived on first try. TTC for 17 months with #2...chemical in October..no known issues after all the tests...great sperm counts.

Thanks, Dr. Q!!! ;-)
