Had short luteal phase corrected with B6 - should I keep taking B6 while pregnant?

While TTC, I noticed that my luteal phase was only 9 days so I started taking 50 mg/day of B6 to lengthen it, on top of the 10 mg that is in my prenatal. That same month when I started to take the B6 I got a BFP! and now I am about 6 weeks pregnant.

Now I am nervous about discontinuing the B6, worried that it will cause my progesterone levels to drop too low, but I am uncomfortable taking something extra that I don't need to take while pregnant. I did cut the B6 dose to 25+10=35 mg total at week 4.

Is extra B6 necessary or even useful at all for keeping my progesterone levels high enough at this stage? Should I continue with the B6 or not?

Natural herbs or vitamins for luteal phase defect?

Hi,

I was diagnosed with a luteal phase defect(it's only 9 days). Are there any herbs or vitamins that I can take to naturally lengthen my luteal phase? I will be starting Clomid 50mg this month as well.

Thanks.

Break Through Bleeding During Luteal Phase

I hope someone can help me. Ever since I have been charting I have noticed that around 9-10 DPO I have had break through bleeding. It's always bright red blood and sometimes there is more than other months, but it is always there. I was having issues with irregular cycles (13-20 day LPs) so my doctor put me on clomid. I forgot to mention the bleeding to the doctor, but I did call his nurse. She told me that it was probably just stress causing it and that it would go away. Well it hasn't gone away and my LP is going a rye again. I'm worried that this bleeding during my LP is due to some sort of hormonal defect and that is why we aren't getting pregnant. Should I call my doctor? Is there anyway that I should specifically mention it to get him to listen to me. I feel like my doctor sometimes discounts what I say because I am not phrasing things properly.

SPOTTING IN LUTEAL PHASE

HI Dr. I have asked this question before. I guess I am having a little trouble understanding just what is going on in my body to cause this spotting monthly before AF.

Usually 7 DPO I start to spot a brown color, and it appears to be somewhat Chunky and thick sometimes Sorry!! TMI.

I have to wear a panty liner for a good week even before AF comes.

These last 2 cycles...It has started at 4 DPO!! I am fed up.

My Levels are Normal and Dr's have told me it is nothing to be concerned with. I have a hard time believing that though.

If this starts at 4DPO, Implantation has not yet occured, so I am worried it is affecting that...I am worried it won't Implant. I am very concerned. Pls Help!

Luteal Phase

My understanding was that luteal phases only fluctuate by 1 or 2 days. So if a women has a normal 14 day luteal phase it could be anywhere from 13-15 days each cycle? My luteal phase changes by 4 days every cycle. So one cycle might be 14 days then the next cycle would be 10 days and so on. Any ideas of what would cause that to happen? I know it is always at least 10 days so it should be a problem but why is this happening?

natural progesterone cream

I'm currently TTC. I've been tracking my cycles for over 5 months, and typically my cycles are approximately 25-26 days, with my luteal phase being 11-12 days. Last cycle my luteal phase was only 10 days longs, which made me wonder if I might have a luteal phase defect?

To be honest... I'm not a huge fan of western medicine. This cycle I've started taking vitamin B-6 and red raspberry to attempt to lengthen my luteal phase in a natural way.

So... finally... my question... I've been reading a lot about natural progesterone cream and contemplating trying it. I know there is a lot of mixed feelings as to whether it really helps. With that said would it be a bad idea to try it without having my progesterone levels checked first? Is there a chance I could end up with too much progesterone in my system (or is there such a thing?) What's worse case scenario on this?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Short Luteal Phase

I have been ttc for 14 months, i have consistently had a luteal phase of 7-9 days, i always start spotting 7dpo. For the past three months my cycles have regulated at 27/28 days therefore I have generally been ovulating around cd19/20. I have had all blood tests done including cd21 which are apparently fine. I have tried Agnus Castus and B6 which has not worked in lengthening my luteal phase. My GP says that this is normal but in 14 months we have never been pregnant. Is there anything I can ourchase to help my short luteal phase gievn my GP and Ob/Gyn will not recognise that there is a problem

Spotting in My Luteal phase and during intercourse

HI Dr. A while back I asked why i get this spotting 7DPO every single month. I am also wondering why i bleed during sex at this time as well. WHen I asked my DR, he said, oh probabyl just an inflamed cervix. I had a pap done 2 months ago and all my hormone levels checked and everything was fine. I am still concerned with this spotting. I have been TTC for 8 months now. This month, the spotting started a few days sooner than normal. It was 4 DPO. I am truly wondering if this is what is causing me not to get pregnant? I get so dissapointed once I see the spotting because I know that my Period is coming. Any thoughts? I would just like to make clear that it isnt really spotting...Its is a brown discharge that gradually gets more closer to my full flow.

Need help - spotting for a week before menstruation starts

I have always spotted for at least a couple of days before menstruation started, but it has been getting worse recently. This last cycle I started spotting at 6 days after ovulation! I don't usually get a full flow until about 12 to 14 days after ovulation. So that was 8 days of spotting, then 7 days of menstruating. My husband and I are trying to conceive, but how am I supposed to sustain a pregnancy like this? My doctor won't check my progesterone levels until I've had at least 2 miscarriages, but I haven't even been able to get pregnant! Please help! What should I do?

11 day Luteal Phase

My DH and I are trying to conceive baby #2. We have been trying for 3 months. We conceived on the first attempt with #1.

I have been using OPK and it seems I have a short lutel phase. I have 24 day cycles and I detect an lh surge around cd 12. I suppose this means I ovulate on cd 13, leaving me an lp of 11 days.

Should I worry? Do I need to see my DR?

The info on the net is a bit confusing. Some sites say that anything above 10 days lp is normal and others say anything below 12 days lp is considered lpd.

Thank you!

My Journey includes, MMC's, Successful PG, MTHFR and Luteal Phase Defect

DH and I were married in March 03 and I went off BC one month later.

We were'nt "trying" but just letting things happen. In Nov 03 I

started spotting about the time my period was supposed to start but

it was weird so I called the Dr. and he did a beta, it was not good,

so he did another and it went down, so m/c #1. We were told, as I am

sure all of you were, its just one of those things, next time will be

different. Well, we got pregnant again in Feb 04 and the day after

my initial beta blood draw at about 5 weeks, I started to m/c. So,

when I went in to see my Dr. after that m/c (#2), he had this "deer

in the headlights" look because I was only 24, and I had 2 m/c back

to back... so he basically said, you need to go to a specialist,

which I went to an AWESOME perinatalogist( Dr. Tracy Papa -Fort Worth,

TX) and she ran all the panels she could run on me at the time (now 4

years ago) and all that came back was progesterone deficency at 3 DPO

was a "1". Whoah. So my next pregnancy, she started my on Crinone at

the first + test. Conceived in July 04, I had my DD March 2005 at 38

weeks, no problemo, except for 20 weeks of puking! So, last summer,

we wanted to start trying again... we weren't on BC or anything, just

watching my cycle carefully. We got preggers the 1st month trying

and started progesterone and saw a heartbeat at 7 weeks and went back

in at 11 weeks for a followup U/S and the baby had died about 1 week

before. I had D&C but it was too late for Chromosonal panels. Got

the go ahead to try again in January, got preggers again in Feb 08,

started prgesterone right away, went in for U/S at 8 weeks and saw

about a 5-6 week embryo and no heartbeat, m/c naturally the next

week. Since it had been 4 years since my panel, my Peri told me lots

of things have been discovered to cause m/c that they can test for.

So she took like half of my blood, and ran the panels and i came up

positive for the MTHFR mutation. I don't know exactly which one, she

just said I got a copy from each of my parents... can you ladies tell

me what that is called? Anyway, the protocol for the MTHFR they

gave me is Folgard x 2 a day, 1 BA, and lovenox injections upon

pregnancy acheival.

Phase II: I have still be a little freaked because I read about how

my progesterone deficency is only a symptom of a greater problem,

poor follicle development and that a luteal phase defect can be

corrected with clomid. My LP is only 9-11 days long generally.

Well, my OB sent me to an RE to be treated with the clomid and I

started my cycle while waiting for my appt. 1 day late. I didn't to

a hpt, like I normally do to be safe, because I thought I wouldn't be

pregnant, and my cycle was weird, it lasted 14 days and it usually

only lasts 4-6 days, so I spoke with the RE and she did a beta and I

was pregnant and m/c again. So, that was even further confirmation

the LP defect and the need to start the clomid treatment along with

progesterone after O.

Anyone had a similar story? Sorry so long. Has anyone taken clomid

for luteal phase defect?

Mendi from Texas

29 years

#1 MC 11/03

#2 MC 03/04

DD born 03/05

#3 MC 11/07

#4 MC 03/08

#5 MC 09/08

MTHFR mutation (2 copies), Luteal Phase Defect

Starting first round of clomid and progesterone after O 11/08

Prenatals, Folgard 2.2 x 2 a day, BA, and Lovenox upon pregnancy

Starting Clomid

We've been trying for a year and my obgyn wanted to start me on Clomid, she thinks I have luteal phase defect. First we had to get a semen analysis. And my husband had bi-lateral varicocele. His sperm count was a slight lower than normal and the motility was only 25%. He just had surgery last Friday to repair it. Hopefully it works. I just started my period today. Should I call my ob to see if she wants me to start clomid this month or at least give her a heads up of whats going on?

Dr. Q... Luteal Phase Defects?

Dr. Q... I hope that you can help me understand a little more about luteal phase defects...

If you have a luteal phase defect, I know they usually give you progesterone, but if you took Clomid, is progesterone cream necessary?

How is a LP Defect diagnosed?

Is it bad to use progesterone cream if you haven't actually been diagnosed with a LP Defect?

Which OTC progesterone cream do you personally recommend?

I really wished that I lived closer to LA so you could be my doctor! :0)

Luteal Phase Defect - Anyone Else?

After my miscarriage last March, I started charting. As the months went on, I noticed that my luteal phase was inconsistent and oftentimes very short. I finally got the opportunity to show the charts to my doctor and speak with him about possible issues, and he agrees that I have a luteal phase defect. He put me on progesterone vaginal suppositories, so I will start those tomorrow (I just happened to ovulate the day before my appointment).

I am just wondering if anyone else has dealt with a LPD, what treatment (if any) you were given, and whether or not you have gone on to have a successful pregnancy. Thanks in advance for any experience/information you can share!

luteal phase

I ovulated on cycle day 10 this month and had the IUI on cycle day 11. Does it mean I had a long Luteal phase. Is that good or is that bad? My body is like clock works, i always have a 28 day cycle. Sometimes i might have 27 days or 29 days but mostly its 28 days.
