How can you find out if you have HPV?

Dr. Q,

I'm curious, a few years ago I had a bad pap that came back from Planned Parenthood(at the time I had no health insurance). I can't remember, but I think the lady told me that I have HPV. If I do, is that something you find out you have from a bad pap?

My second question is my dh told me that he read in an article that if a woman has HPV and a man performs oral sex on her that he can get throat cancer. Is there any truth to this?

I was due for my annual pap but had to cancel my appt cause darn AF showed up and I can't get in now until Dec.

Thanks!

please help

Hi i know i ahve asked lots of questions in the past but i still have so many.

I went to see the specialist about my next treatment, they advised that my follicle are 1.2, 1.1, 1.0 (this is without treatment) and they stated that they think i should have ovulated but i ahve been testing everyday and i am not ovulating, they dont seem to be listening but im not ovulating. why is this? any ideas??

Hello many thanks in replying. I used opks from day 10 and im now over three weeks since last af and nothing.

I went to the hosp on friday and they gave me bad news that not everything has gone to plan and they are having to refer me back to my surgeon.

Apparently my follicles only grew from monday to friday to 1.3 so 0.1 increase! And my lining went from 8mm to 3.6mm with no AF or spotting! They dont have any more answers for me so will get the surgeon to reassess. Please doctor, is there an reason for this please? I am so upset x

Pap ?

Is is safe to have a pap test done after OV while trying to conceive? Can it prevent conception or interfere? I have an appt scheduled for day 21 of my cycle, and I should OV by then. We are currently on a break from treatments, but trying on our own. Thanks for your help.

abnormal paps?

OK, so I posted a question to the dr.s asking about information on Abnormal paps and atypical cells. However, after reading more of you gals' posts, I have a new question, anyone have a abnormal pap, go in have colposcopy done, have the cells removed, then had abnormal paps after that as well. Even after the dr. thought he had gotten all the abnormal pre cancerous cells? I had cells removed in Febraury/March and then when I had another pap in July came back abnormal again, so I go in for another colposcopy again. Any experience with this?

not normal pap smears?

OK, so you all have been so helpful to me up to this point in my ttc struggle. I have gotten answers on just about anything I have asked. So here I am with yet another question fo ryou wonderful doctors:)

I have PCOS, been TTC for over 7 months, have been on metformin for a month, took my last pill of provera tonite and am set to start clomid on day 3-7 of my cycle. IF all goes as planned:)

However, I have not had a normal pap since 2006. During this time I did have a baby, but every pap I have had have not been right. I have had 3 colposcopy's done now and everytime they take more and more tissue from my cervix. The last one was done in March and am set for another in 2 weeks. Every test I get comes back with Atypical squamous cells. What exactly does this mean? My dr. doesn't think much of it, and just takes more tissue to biopsy it everytime. But should I be worried? IS it possible that these are underlying reasons why I haven't conceived yet? any thoughts would be helpful

Dr.Q... Can I have your opinion?

Hi Dr.Q,

I am 15w4d pregnant and I had my 2nd prenatal appointment on Friday. Everything went well. All my bloodwork and testing came back great. The heartrate was 153 bpm which the doctor said was great! There was only a few things that I have questions on...

1. My doctor said in my urine sample from my last prenatal appointment they found a UTI... which were traces of strep in my urine. She said it's not a big deal but at 36 weeks instead of giving me a strep test they will just start me on antibiotics because they want it gone by the time of delivery and they will just assume I have strep since they found it so early on in my pregnancy. What do you think... is this normal in patients and is it a big deal?

2. My pap smear from a month ago also came back slightly abnormal. Which I have had abnormal pap smears in the past but I always had them redone and they would come back fine. So I have to go in 2 weeks to have some Coposky (dont even know if this is the name!) to make sure there are no cancer cells?? This is a test where they go inside with a microscope or light to check to see if there are any cancerous cells. Is this dangerous to myself or my baby? My doctor said not to worry at all and it could just have come up abnormal because my immune system down since becoming pregnant. What do you think? Is this also normal? And what do you suggest? Should I be worried? Also when I had this pap smear done a month ago they found a yeast infection. Would a yeast infection cause a pap smear to be abnormal? Thanks so much for your help. I am of course a little worried and just want to make sure these things happen in pregnancy or if these things are dangerous in pregnany. Thanks so much in advance! I appreciate your help!

Pap smear

Dr Q,

I have scheduled my 1st IVF cycle next month. I had a pap smear exam 4 years ago with no problem. Do you think I should do another Pap smear before IVF? Today is my cycle day 18(we ttc this month by ourselves), I've heard the best time to do this is after period and before ovulation. Does it hurt if I got pregnant this month by doing pap smear on day 18?

Many thanks for your continuing help...

Spotting After Pap Smear?

I had a pap smear done on August 21st. I had no pain and everything came back normal. 3 days later (CD 18, 3 DPO) I had some very light pink spotting that I originally thought was my period starting early, but it only lasted about an hour and hasn't been back since.

Then I thought that it could be implantation spotting (I hope)... we've been trying to conceive our first child for so long!

Now I'm thinking it could have just been something from the pap... could that be, since the spotting was 3 days after the fact? Thanks!

I was diagnoised with PCOS last summer about a year after

I gave birth to my first child.

I am only 23 and I really want to have another child, My finace

and I have been trying for about 2 months with no sucess

I know that isn't a long time but I was pregnant within

2 weeks of trying with my daughter. My doctor wants me to

see a fertility specialist asap because of all the factors .

I also had an abnormal pap last summer but they removed all

the cells and I have since had a normal pap, they do want

another one done tomorrow though.

Any advice?

I'm not sure about any of this I've never had to do this before

and I'm a bit scared.

What is your opinion?
