ewcm?

earlier today i was out in town and went to the ladies room and noticed some gloopy cervical mucus it was stretchy. i did not think anything of it. well about 4 hours later me and my hubby decided to ...well you know and i had a lot of thick lotiony-like cm. im wondering if it was ovulation or if i missed it by 4 hours or if it mean its coming soon? anything would be helpful. im so hopeful!

When should I test?

If I was using an OPK and got a positive mid-day last Tuesday, when will I beable to test? I am on cycle day 30. Tomorrow will be 31 and still no period but I ovulated late in my cycle (day 19 or 20) so would it be too early to test for pregnancy?

GREAT Information!!!

What about the sensitivity of ovulation tests and why might I need a different sensitivity?

Ok, we are going to dispel a few old wives’ tales here and give you some facts

Firstly, virtually every woman in the world will ovulate almost exactly 14 days BEFORE she starts her period – not the other way round!! That's fine for women with regular cycles of 26-30 days between each period but the trouble is a lot of women have irregular periods or other conditions such as PCOS, a lazy ovary, previous miscarriages, endometriosis, currently breast feeding etc., etc.

So what exactly happens is this

In any one cycle and on average, 80% of women will ovulate normally but around 11% of women will not ovulate at all and another 9% will ovulate twice or more. The latter explains a lot of those unwanted pregnancies by Roman Catholics trusting to the "rhythm method" to prevent conception!!

Now the “average” woman ............is there such a thing? will have an LH (the hormone that triggers ovulation) level of between 5-20 mIU in her system. When the surge occurs the basal level rises to approximately 50-200 mIU and at this level ovulation occurs and the egg is released from the ovary. This means that for most women the 30 mIU ovulation sensitivity tests will be ideal.

But how will I know if they are not right for me? I hate to say this but it is trial and error. Firstly, if there is a problem and you don’t seem to be ovulating normally – DON’T WORRY – it is not unusual. The reason is usually simple and is down to the fact that each woman is individual and can have different results from ovulation tests – here are just 2 examples:-

We have a woman approaching menopause who notices the test line on our standard 30 mIU tests never seems to get as dark or darker than the control line or doesn’t get any test line at all. This means the level of LH never reached the level that is considered "normal" when the surge occurs. In this case the person should try the higher sensitivity tests (15 mIU) as this will pick up the LH surge at much lower levels. On the other hand we have a lady who is suffering from PCOS and this can sometimes (NOT always) cause the LH level to be consistently at a higher level than "normal". This woman will appear to get a positive result with our 30 mIU tests over several days and she is therefore not certain when she is ovulating. In this case we would recommend she purchase the lower sensitivity (40 mIU) ovulation tests which will better pinpoint the LH surge.

So what do you recommend for a newcomer to all this?

Try the normal 30 mIU sensitivity ovulation tests and if you find any problems in pinpointing when you are ovulating then try one of the other sensitivity tests and that should solve the problem

How dark does the test line have to be to show that i am ovulating normally and what if I get no lines in the test window?

Essentially at any ovulation sensitivity level if you get no lines at all in the test window then you either haven't ovulated or the test is not sensitive enough to pick up the surge so you should go for the 15mIU sensitivity tests. At any sensitivity level if you get no test lines followed by faint lines for a couple of days which then fade back to no lines then that is the perfect indication that you have ovulated normally during those days. If, however, you get no lines at all in the test window with the highest sensitivity 15 mIU test (as far as we know, no one in the world does a more sensitive ovulation urine test) for 2 months then you should contact us for advice as we may be able to help. The email address is shown below.

Honestly, i had NO idea that you could buy diff sensitivity OPK's - did any of you!?!?!?

no follicle on day 12 of ultrasound after 1st round of clomid

i just finished my 1st round of clomid on 8/25/08, took it day 3-7 of my induced period (induced via provera, as i have always been irregular, almost always need provera to have a period) and i had my ultrasound on 8/30/08, day 12, since my day 13 fell on a sunday...

the doctor said that she did not see any follicles develop and to come back on 9/6/08, day 19, to recheck again via ultrasound

is this situation common with first time clomid users who always had irregular periods?

Period and ovulation after a miscarriage.

Hi, I just miscarried at 18 weeks and 4 days, though my son had passed away weeks before. My dr also said that the umbilical cord was short. Though when I saw her, she told me to start trying as soon as I'm comfortable to do so, she didn't mention waiting for a period. I want to know, has anyone miscarried this late due to chromosomal abnomalities in chromosome 18 and gone on to conceive and healthy baby right after the miscarriage?

Herald the return of CD1 ...

Oh well, I'm officially out of the TWW. Today is CD1 of cycle three of clomid for me. I was kinda hopeful that I was experiencing "implantation" bleeding, but a BFN at 13 days DPO doesn't lie. AF is here in full flow today. I'm all stocked up on OPKs, and will be taking the same dosage of Clomid (100 mg) from CD2-CD6 since I ovulated last month. DH will also be going in for testing.

Anyone else back to CD1?

I have been ttc for over 7 months now, I have PCOS and have been on Metformin for a month, haven't had a period since May, so my ob/gyn put me on Provera for 10 days then Clomid for days 3-7.

I have been on Provera for 3 days now, However, I have been charting temps, anc all that and a ovulation test showed positive for 2 days ago.... if I did conceive around now, would the provera hurt the baby? or is it safe to take if pregnant? Thanks for your help, as I am completely new the medication part of ttc!!!

Provera and Ovulation?

Hi everyone. My doctor has given me (again) to start a period. I've been off BCP since March and only had one period in June (induced by taking Provera). I just had another period induced (this time by taking Provera twice!) My DR wants to wait until our next meeting (3 weeks from now) to discuss where to go from here.

She wants me to try an ovulation kit this month, however, I'm reading that it's not probable that I will ovulate on my own...since I haven't been having periods on my own.

Any thoughts?

I guess I'm just trying to stay positive that maybe I will miraculously ovulate this month. Should I try to use OPK's this month? Is it possible?

Thank you in advance! :)

Could Pregnancy Occur?

I've been getting all different dates online for ovulation. The first day of my last period was 8/22/08. We had unprotected sex all weekend, last time being this morning. Is there a possibility of the sperm being able to live long enough to fertilize the egg? I just checked on an ovulation calendar and it said my most fertile day would be 9/4 but I've also gotten dates like 9/8 last week.

Positive OPK's and no BBT rise... what is going on? Please help!!

Hi there, I am on CD 18, having taken clomid 150mg on cd 2-6. I was so excited to get a OPK+ on CD 15, as I have pcos and usually don't ovulate untl cd 35-40 at the earliest. However, i am charting my temps correctly, and have had no rise in BBT yet, although I am still having ewcm. I did another OPK today (cd19).. I know you're not meant to test again after your first positive, but I wanted to know what wasw happening. So the OPK today was positive again. I don't think I have ovulated yet. What is going on? Has anyone else had OPK+ and not ovulated/seen rise in BBT? Thanks for your help!!

Period after miscarriage and few more questions (smiles)

I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks it was missed. I had a DNC at 10 weeks 4 days (July 22). I was expecting my period sometime around now. I have pcos and usually take provera to start my period. The Dr. told me I may have one on my own(period) since I had a miscarriage. Well starting on Tuesday the (August 26th) I have noticed brown spotting when I wipe only (it is not heavy at all). Is that my period? Or what could that be? My husband and I have not been having protected sex. I assumed I would need a full period to get pregnant again right?
