Do RE's require a referral from your OB/GYN?

Do RE's require a referral from your OB/GYN? Also my doctor will only follow me for three months on clomid. He said once those three months are up he said its time to go to an RE. My question is, do RE's care if after two cycles on clomid and no success you go to them for help? Thank you!

Gynocologist or Directly to the RE

What is Estradiol and Prolactin procedures? Thank you for answering the question Dr Q. i am going to call my doctor on friday but i was wondering due to my age 41 would it be wise just to go to the RE doctor or can the high risk oB doctor order the tests? The reason i am asking is i am very comfortable wiht my regular doctor and i am sure i can tell him the urgency but RE are booked but they are in the same office so if i need to go downstairs to the RE i rather go as soon as possible unless my regular Ob can do it as well. It definately will save some money for the time being.. Yes unfortunately i believe we may have to do Ivf as well but it is okay. I just got a raise today!!!!!!! So now i will have extra for what is needed! The most important thing right now is to make sure we are able to conceive. Thanks for your help!!

Which Doctor Should I Call?

So, most of you know that I have very unhelpful doctors (I've switched doctors numerous times, but apparently can't find a helpful one).

I started to see the RE, but after doing my testing, they said they can't help me until DH does a SA, which he will not do (yet). My OBGYN wants to put me on birth control for a year or two so that I have time to lose some weight (BS if you ask me) which I opted out of.

My AF is now over 2 weeks late (never ever ever been this late before) and I keep getting negative tests, the last internet cheapie was negative last Friday (even a beta which was two about 2 weeks ago). So, I'm going to call my doc and ask for another beta, hopefully an ultrasound to check for cysts, and provera if all else shows negative.

Which doctor would you call for help in this matter?

what to ask gyno before going to the RE doctor

I have an appointment with my obgyn he is a high risk gynocologist and i am wondering what all test can i ask him to give before i am referred to the RE. The reason i am asking is because i have to use my reimbursement fund to pay for any treatments under the re and we are trying to see how much to take out for next year before insurance enrollment is over. Which is ofcourse a week before i see him. I can call him for the test. ( i have seen him for years and some test i have already had. HSg is one of them so i just want to make sure i am getting all the options before paying extra. I am 41 and the last month i noticed my lh surge really low so i am going to ask him about clomid, hsg test for block tubes and to see if i can get my eggs counted and of course blood work. My thyroid is controlled or pretty low my Endo doctor is rushing so i need to know what to do.

Gyn or OB?

Last year I was pregnant and lost the baby. I have been TTCing for 5 months. I havent had an annual check up or pap smear for a year, plus I would like to start working with someone on figuring out if I have PCOS. My OB is for high-risk pregnancies so I am wondering if I should schedule a basic appt. with a Gyn or go straight to an RE?

I am 36. Thanks!

OB bill, before Pregnancy

Ok did all of you guys have to do a bill BEFORE pregnancy? I have been paying mine since I found out we were pregnant. They make me pay each visit, which worked out every 4weeks. We had to pay a total of like 800 bucks, 500 of which we had to meet our deductible and the other 300 is that for labor and delivery, not doctor bill or epi or hospital stay?

I just went ahead and wrote the last check to them to get it paid off for the OB bill which was more then we usually always pay, and its not all due till my 8th month, but I hated having that sitting there.

Unless something is missing from that like the other ultrasound I had done, then I wont have another bill until he is born right?

I know that if the 2nd ultrasound is missing from this bill then I will pay for whatever insurance didnt cover, which maybe 15dollars not sure. Then I will have a 3rd ultrasound done at the end to make sure Noahs heart is fine, since my brother has an enlarged heart and was in the childrens hospital for a few weeks after birth, they almost lost him, this was 33 years ago though.

Anyways just curious how these bills work :)

Cant wait to be done with them and have that extra 150-200 bucks sitting in an account each month :)

OB/GYN vs RE?

Ok, so my OB/GYN does some basic fertility procedures.... including IUI.

I do really like him, but I'm wondering if I'd be better served to see a RE. See, we've decided to not go any further than IUI, since our insurance will not cover IVF and I'm not interested in hyperstimulation of ovaries.

Anywho, if my IUI didn't take today, I'm wondering if I should switch. Here's why: IF it didn't take, then according to the calendar, I will likely ovulate on a weekend next month, or, at the very least, will need to do a follicle study on the weekend. Since my clinic isn't open on weekends, I don't want to take a chance on missing my egg. Also, I'm wondering if maybe they'd do more testing to see if I'm having other issues besides what my OB/GYN tested for. I have a prolactin issue that is being treated by a pituitary endo and there's some potential I might have PCOS, but it appears that I'm ovulating on my own.

I'm just sorta thinking it might be something I should do.

What do y'all think?

I'm on to my OB/GYN....

...i've had my last visit at my RE's office today. I'm 8 weeks 4 days but measuring 8 weeks 3 days. We saw the little beanie baby and he/she was wiggling their arms and legs. The heartbeat was 168bpm. So everything is progressing well and i'm just praying everything goes well and we deliver a healthy happy baby in February! I have my first appt with my OB/GYN on August 6th!

Backwards Transition

I skipped the OBGYN and went right to seeing the RE; however, before my first appointment (but after my testing), we ran into a little personal problem and we can't go any further with the RE right now.

I don't ovulate on my own usually, but I still have a period every month... sometimes twice a month. My cycles are very short and my progesterone level was 0.7 on CD 18, so I know there is a problem.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I have decided to try seeing my new regular OBGYN and asking her for help. The worst she could do is tell me no, right? So, my appointment (the earliest one availible) is September 11th at 11:30 AM.

Wish me luck ladies! Lord knows, I need it!

Dr. Q n ladies.my current Ob/Gy Vs. a new RE.?

I've done loadsa searching. And suddenly something hit me.My Ob/Gy couldn't be of any help to me over the past 2 years.Everytime she'd be saying "eggs not growing" n thts all.i've done everything. U/S,HSG,and truckloads of blood tests,n my DH did tests too and no other problems.Would it be a good decision to change to a new RE in a private hospital?? Actually i was scheduled to have a second IUI next month but i don't have any confidence and faith. Is it too late if i go to a new RE? But i read RE has more kwoledge and helps you better.my CD length is 30-56 days.I dunt know if/when i Ovulate. Please everyone i need some serious suggestions. As my current Dr. is on leave and i'm experiencing a weird discharge instead of an AF,I'm seeing a subsitute Dr. in the same Clinic. And they have scheduled an U/S in 2 weeks time. Should i first do the U/S or go to a RE asap??

What else can a regular OBGYN do????

I have been on Clomid and Femara, both unsuccesfully, with my OBGYN. Reason I am wanting to stay with her for as long as possible is that I do not have infertility insurance... so my visits with the RE aren't even covered! But I am afraid I've ran out of options, but thought i'd venture out and see what you guys have experience in. Is there anything else a regular OBGYN doctor can do??

Oh, and i've been through the glucose test and was told that Metformin would not help me.

Dr. Appointment to discuss fertility issue ater TTC 8 months!!

My doctor agreed to see me after TTC 8 months with no luck! I'm so happy! I told him that we chart and use a fertility monitor so we know I ovulate and that timing is not an issue...so he agreed.

He's just my OBGYN so what kinds of tests will he do? Will he do them then? I'm not sure what happens next.

Any advice or help??
