m/c ?

Dr.Q I have had 3 m/c's the past three months. They all happened between 4 and 5 weeks pregnant. Are these considered m/c's or chems?

Also, can this be due to my body just needing a break? Like getting pregnant 3 cycles in a row was just too much to ask of my body?

My Journey - PCOS to baby!

I figured it was about time I updated my journey. Hopefully this will help someone else get to that BFP!

My dh & I started trying to conceive in September 2007. I stopped taking the pill somewhere near the end of August 2007. Like everyone else, we thought we would get pregnant very quickly. We even planned a big anniversary/baby making trip to Mexico. We were sooooo excited! No one in our families has had any problems with infertility. We are both young (I was 27 & my dh 29) and we are both within a normal bmi.

The first month we tried I thought I was pregnant b/c AF didn't come for about 5-6 wks. But I kept getting BFN's. The next cycle was about 7 weeks. then the next about 8 weeks. Each time I thought I was pregnant, but got BFN. I didn't understand bc before I went on BC I always had long (32 day) but regular cycles. I went to an OB/GYN & she said it could take 6 months for your body to regulate after getting off of BC and all I could do was wait. So I waited, and kept trying. I went back at 6 months and was told that there was nothing I could do, but try for a year and then go see an RE. If your doctor tells you that - FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR.

Luckily I made an appointment with another dr., thanks to the advise from the people on this site. He did some blood work and told me my Fsh levels were normal, I think it was 6 or 7. But my LH was through the roof at 21. THat meant one of 2 things. 1. I was ovulating. Or 2. I had PCOS. He told me to bd just in case, but to also try the ovulation predictor kits and charting my temps to see what I found. During this time - I still getting AF, but only every 7-9 weeks.

I started buying the regular OPK's at first and realized they were always both pink and I couldn't tell the difference. Also, I couldn't really tell the best time to take them b/c I didn't have regualr cycles. So, I upgraded. I bought the digital OPK's and I started using them ever day. I finally got a positive and was so excited! But when AF didn't show in 2 wks and I still got a BFN I resorted to starting over. THat's when I noticed I would get several positive - digitial - OPK's a cycle.

My charting wasn't much help either as it looked more like a topography map than anything else. I took my temp at exactly the same time every morning and even put it on fertilityfriends.com for digital tracking, but it just said "anovulatory". Or would say I ovulated when I had not. So, I bought a book on PCOS, read it, and headed back to the dr. After all, his sign said he dealt with "infertility".

If I could pass one word of advise onto anyone reading this it would be that not all dr's that say they work with infertility do. Writing scripts for Comid & fertility shots is not the same as being specialized in infertility and trying to find and target the problem. Dr's need no special training to add "infertility" to their sign outside. So be sure to ask exactly what makes your dr. specialized.

Anyways, back to the story. I went back to the dr with my charts and my stories of my OPK's. I obviously wasn't ovulating the last time I went when my LH was so high, so I was assuming it was the PCOS, but I wasn't completely convinced after reading the book about it. I'm not overweight, I used to have regular cycles, and my dr never did an ultrasound to confirm.

Instead, he just gave me Clomid. I should point out that I do have PCOS and it has been confirmed with an ultrasound (different doc). But fully explaining, and fully diagnosing are all parts of being a good doctor in my mind.

FIrst round of clomid I had a AF came after 28 days, but was VERY light. I don't know if I actually ovulated b/c that dr. doesn't check progesterone levels. But I started another round of Clomid just in case. That time I bought the $250 OV watch (waste of money). I didn't get AF the second time. I took a month off, then went back to the dr. He was ready to put me on fertility shots, but at 27. I was not ready for the risk of triplets, so I asked if I could try an increased dose of Clomid first. I had HORRIBLE side effects, but still no AF. I talked it over with my husband and we decided we would rather adopt than have triplets at our current ages, we just didn't think we could handle it. So we decided to hold off on the shots.

By this time it was September 2008, a year of trying, so I started looking into RE's. I originally thought you only went to an RE for invitro - but thought I would look into it more. I found acrm.com and read their "journey" which was almost an exact footprint of mine. I researched prices and realized it wasn't as expensive as I had originally thought so I made an appt.

My first appointment was at the beginning of September 2008. I had actually just gotten AF - randomly - a couple of days before my appt.

I went in, they talked to me for about half an hour explaining all the steps and the options & what all we needed to check. They immediately did an ultrasound to check my ovulation status and my PCOS (which confirmed it). I was given Femara to make me ovulate

(since clomid didn't work), and metformin to get my insulin levels under control b/c of my PCOS.

They sent me for a full blood work-up to make sure nothing else was wrong. ANd sent me to have an HSG to clear my tubes & make sure they weren't blocked. On 9/10 I came back for another ultrasound to check my ovulation status. I had 4 eggs "in the running", came back the next day for an HCG trigger shot to induce the ovulation. Then came back on 9/12 for an IUI. We figured after a year of bd - we would go ahead and try an IUI if they could get us to ovulate. On 9/19 (my birthday!) I went back for a blood test where they confirmed that I HAD ovulated! And my progesterone was high enough to carry a child. ON 9/24 I took a Home pregnancy test and got my very first BFP! I went back on 9/25 for a confirmation blood test which confirmed I WAS PREGNANT!

They had me come back for 2 more blood tests, then an ultrasound at 6 weeks where I saw my baby for the first time. And another ultrasound at 7wks 3days where I saw the heartbeat (139) for the first time. They released me to my regular OB who I went to at 9weeks for my 3rd ultrasound and saw the heartbeat at 164! Just one month after going to an RE I was pregnant!

I am now 11 weeks, almost through the first trimester, and I've never been happier in my life!

Follicles

Hi, I am on my first cycle of clomid days 3-7, I am currently on cd 16 and I ovulated today. I had 3 mature follicles (2 on one side and 1 on the other) the big 2 were on the same side at 27 & 30mm and the other was 19mm (as of yesterday) and we had intercourse last night and I went in for post-coital and U/S today and all 3 were collapsed. Does this mean I O'd all 3?

ovaries

Dr.,

My right ovary is higher than the left. I have had 3 recurrent miscarriages. Do you think that my miscarriages could be related to the high ovary? (I have no tube on the left so I am only getting pregnant on the right) Do you think that the traveling time of the embryo is to long and not implanting?

What can an RE do about recurrent Miscarriages?

I have my frist RE appt on Monday to discuss our multiple miscarriages. I know that an RE can do thinks like get people to ovulate using meds, etc. But what can an RE do about miscarriages?? Anything?? Is there a medication that they can prescribe to help with miscarriages? I guess I am just not too hopeful that a Dr. can do anything for miscarriages. What does an RE do when dealing with multiple miscarriages? It is harder to fix the problem of miscarriages than it is to fix someone who isn't getting pregnant?

Clomid, PCOS, and taking a break.

Hi!

I was diagnosed with PCOS in June of this year. I started on 50 mg of Clomid on 8/31 and I didn't ovulate, this month I took 100 mg and didn't ovulate. I'm assuming my RE will try 150 mg this upcoming month. My question is, how long of a break does the dr make you take inbetween cycles of clomid. I'm thinking I might need glucophage since I'm Insulin Resistant.

Thank you!

Wanting our baby...

My husband & I have only been married 6 months & most people who see us would say we are too young to be worried about infertility...wrong! I stopped birth control over a year ago because we knew there was a high chance of problems. So far, we have had 3 miscarriages & an ectopic pregnancy. I guess the only positive thing to come out of all of this is that now I fall into the "Habitual Pregnancy Loss" category under our insurance so they are covering all of our REI visits & procedures. We have gone through a lot & even though I am emotionally exhausted, I know it will all be forgotten when we get to hold our baby for the first time. I know that everyone here is in the same boat as we are, it is nice to feel supported & understood.

Femara

Does anyone know much about Femara? I have been on Clomid in the past, but failed to conceive. I just was wondering if anyone had any experience with it & wanted to know what to expect. I had surgery to reduce scar tissue & remove a septum in August. I have had 3 miscarriages & an ectopic with no successful pregnancies, so we are getting anxious to have our baby. I have a lot of complicating factors unfortunately, but we are trying to keep our hopes up & not get to discouraged. Any advice would be great!

Please share femara stories, don't know what to think?

I had some cramping cd 8-12,

a possible positive opk cd11,

a definite positive (digital this time)cd13,

and nasty gas or period type cramps cd 16 and 17.

Anyway, I bd'd cd 6,8,10,13, and 16 so I'm pretty sure it's not my month, but am hoping for some advice or any stories that might shed light on my situation.

I should mention that I usually ovulate on my own on cd 14/15 with 29 day cycles, and took one femara daily cd3-7. Also my bbt chart didn't show a clear rise until cd16/17 but ff indicates ovulation at cd13.

My Journey includes, MMC's, Successful PG, MTHFR and Luteal Phase Defect

DH and I were married in March 03 and I went off BC one month later.

We were'nt "trying" but just letting things happen. In Nov 03 I

started spotting about the time my period was supposed to start but

it was weird so I called the Dr. and he did a beta, it was not good,

so he did another and it went down, so m/c #1. We were told, as I am

sure all of you were, its just one of those things, next time will be

different. Well, we got pregnant again in Feb 04 and the day after

my initial beta blood draw at about 5 weeks, I started to m/c. So,

when I went in to see my Dr. after that m/c (#2), he had this "deer

in the headlights" look because I was only 24, and I had 2 m/c back

to back... so he basically said, you need to go to a specialist,

which I went to an AWESOME perinatalogist( Dr. Tracy Papa -Fort Worth,

TX) and she ran all the panels she could run on me at the time (now 4

years ago) and all that came back was progesterone deficency at 3 DPO

was a "1". Whoah. So my next pregnancy, she started my on Crinone at

the first + test. Conceived in July 04, I had my DD March 2005 at 38

weeks, no problemo, except for 20 weeks of puking! So, last summer,

we wanted to start trying again... we weren't on BC or anything, just

watching my cycle carefully. We got preggers the 1st month trying

and started progesterone and saw a heartbeat at 7 weeks and went back

in at 11 weeks for a followup U/S and the baby had died about 1 week

before. I had D&C but it was too late for Chromosonal panels. Got

the go ahead to try again in January, got preggers again in Feb 08,

started prgesterone right away, went in for U/S at 8 weeks and saw

about a 5-6 week embryo and no heartbeat, m/c naturally the next

week. Since it had been 4 years since my panel, my Peri told me lots

of things have been discovered to cause m/c that they can test for.

So she took like half of my blood, and ran the panels and i came up

positive for the MTHFR mutation. I don't know exactly which one, she

just said I got a copy from each of my parents... can you ladies tell

me what that is called? Anyway, the protocol for the MTHFR they

gave me is Folgard x 2 a day, 1 BA, and lovenox injections upon

pregnancy acheival.

Phase II: I have still be a little freaked because I read about how

my progesterone deficency is only a symptom of a greater problem,

poor follicle development and that a luteal phase defect can be

corrected with clomid. My LP is only 9-11 days long generally.

Well, my OB sent me to an RE to be treated with the clomid and I

started my cycle while waiting for my appt. 1 day late. I didn't to

a hpt, like I normally do to be safe, because I thought I wouldn't be

pregnant, and my cycle was weird, it lasted 14 days and it usually

only lasts 4-6 days, so I spoke with the RE and she did a beta and I

was pregnant and m/c again. So, that was even further confirmation

the LP defect and the need to start the clomid treatment along with

progesterone after O.

Anyone had a similar story? Sorry so long. Has anyone taken clomid

for luteal phase defect?

Mendi from Texas

29 years

#1 MC 11/03

#2 MC 03/04

DD born 03/05

#3 MC 11/07

#4 MC 03/08

#5 MC 09/08

MTHFR mutation (2 copies), Luteal Phase Defect

Starting first round of clomid and progesterone after O 11/08

Prenatals, Folgard 2.2 x 2 a day, BA, and Lovenox upon pregnancy

spotting and multiple positive opks

I have very irregular/infrequent periods. I have been using OPKs. I had a positive about 2 weeks ago. 2 weeks later(now)I started spotting for several days. I have NEVER done this before. I also just had another positive OPK strip 2 days in a row. I went to my OB about a month ago and got checked out. I also had my hormone levels and thyroid checked. All was well. We are trying to conceive and I am not sure what is going on.

Another miscarriage

I am going through my second miscarriage in 2 months. I can't stand feeling like this. I honestly feel like I will never be happy again. Dh and I were so excited that we got pregnant so quickly but now I wish we hadn't. Its too painful. We haven't miscarried yet, but my numbers are doubling ever 7 days. Not good enough by a mile. The dr. says he won't do anything until I start bleeding. He says I should need a D&C and to just let it pass naturally. I let my last one pass naturally and it killed me. I felt like the clots were my baby and I was flushing my baby down the toilet. I absolutely hate this!! This is not how its supposed to be.

Has anyone every had multiple miscarriage and THEN had a healthy baby? I feel like we will never have a healthy baby.

How do you get over multiple miscarriages?? All I do is cry. I don't know what else to do.

Please help.
