Pregnancy due date calculation

Why is it when a woman gets pregnant they count from the first day of their last period? So when they only ovulated 2 weeks ago they say they are 4 weeks along? My friend is 30 weeks pregnant but her Dr's calculated her due date 40 weeks after the week she ovulated... I'm so confused...

Feeding your Baby prior to 6 Months

Doctors, I have a controversial question to ask.

When should you be feeding your baby food?

If they are breast-fed babies in particular? Our baby is 5 months old and we haven't given her any food yet and we have received A LOT of pressure from everyone to feed her. She shows interest in food already. Our pediatrician told us he doesn't want us to feed her until she is 6 months. My question to you is, what research has been done to show that it can cause problems if you feed them prior to 6 months and what exactly can happen? Why does the Pediatric Association not recommend it prior? And why do so many mothers feed their babies anyways? Has there been extensive research or is it just a generalization? My baby was 10 days overdue and she was 10 lbs at birth so when would be a good indication she is ready to eat?

Also I have heard from some other mothers that there was research on giving rice cereal and that it can be bad for the baby. Have any of you heard anything on this or seen any of the research across your desks?

If i started my baby right on veggies would that be a problem?

Another questions I have is, when and should I be giving my baby water at all?

My parents keep telling me to feed her water and i am not sure where this is coming from.

Any answers you can give will be most helpful.

I dont have another appointment with my doctor until Milana is 6 Months so i would like to know sooner rather than later.

Thank you,

Our Babies ~ 6 Months Old

I can't believe how time flies by. Cameron is already 6 months old and it seems like it was forever ago that he was born. I can't even remember what our family was like before Cameron. He has brought so much love and laughter in to our home and our family.

He can now roll over front to back, and back to front, sit on his own, reach for things, hold things in his hands (he's real good at pulling my hair), put his pacifier in his mouth by himself, he's working on holding his own bottle, talks and babbles all the time, he recently got his first tooth and unfortunately his first and hopefully only ear infection. He laughs all the time and is ticklish everywhere! I just love him to bits! I cannot wait for his first Christmas :)

Here are some recent pics of Cameron at

6 months old.

Please share pics of your babies as they reach this milestone of turning 6 months old and share what your babies have learned so far :)

18 months of ttc.

I have been trying to concieve for almost 2 years now. I miscarried last July after ttc for a year. My periods are very heavy. I am concerned with them because you can see the clots when I change my pad or sit down to go to the bathroom. My periods are 30 day cycle. I am just concerned that I am never going to get pregnant again, since I have had my miscarriage. We have started to use opks but nothing is happening with those either. WE are fortunate enough to have a 2 1/2 year old daughter already, but we would like to be blessed with more. SHould I go see a doctor about not being able to concieve and about how heavy my periods are? Thanks

Michaela's Journey-Baby #2

Here's the breakdown of the short version:

*20 months total of TTC.

*Started trying Feb '07

*Got pregnant Oct '07

*Miscarried Oct '07

*Found out had low progesterone in Apr '08

*Started Clomid in May '08

*3 rounds-got pregnant, Chemical.

*Got pregnant on Round 5 of Clomid, with the added Progesterone supplement!

We're thrilled to be pregnant with #2!

Here's the long story :

We got pregnant with our first child with no problem, in just 3 months of trying--no fertility drugs. When she was 2 1/2 we decided to get off the pill and start trying.

We started trying in Feb '07, and tried for most of the year with no success.

We finally got pregnant in October, and then sadly lost it on Halloween. For the next several months, my cycles were way off, from 37 days to 26 days, to 33 days, etc. At first my doc said it was normal for your cycles to be off for a few months after a m/c. But after 5 months of this he said "let's get you tested and hubby tested to make sure there's no other issue.

Well, my progesterone was super low--2.6. So he decided to put me on Clomid. My dh's tests came back, mediocre, having enough sperm to get me pregnant, said my doc, but they prefer more, and out of the total number of them, there wasn't the best motility rate. So we had both issues working against us.

So starting in may, we did 3 rounds of Clomid and i got a BFP in July, but it turned out to be a chemical just a few days later.

But on my 5th round of Clomid, my doc went ahead and added Prometrium (progesterone) and WE GOT PREGNANT!!!

So we found out Sept 26th, and it was the best day ever!

We went for our 7wk/2day U/S on Oct 20th, and we saw the heartbeat! It was still a little too early to hear it. So we'll go back Nov 6th for another U/S.

It took 20 months, but we're super excited this one is finally gonna stick!

Jacob at 5 months :)

I can't believe Jacob is already 5 months old now! Sorry if I've been a little MIA lately, but I still read the posts and love catching up when I can. I don't always have a chance to write anything, but I will when I can. Time seems to slip away...

I just changed my profile pic and put a pretty recent one up. Actually it was taken on 9/19/08. I'll add some more pics to this post soon. What a cute age this is...starting at 4 months he has become so much fun and interactive! He is such a happy guy and smiles so much :))) I love how he has found his toes and can't get enough of them :)

Hope everyone is doing well!

Trying to conceive for 4 months

Hi,I am 28 yrs old and my husband is 33 yrs old.For five years we used condoms when having sex.Now from 4 months, we are trying to conceive.Pregnancy tests result is negative.I am worrying so much.How long we have to try, before we see a doctor. My menstrual cycle is 29 days long and very regular.I have a doubt...Before we tried to conceive, for 1 month continuously I used pain relievers for my back pain. May this affect my ovulation? Will that is the reason I am not getting pregnant? If so, What medication I have to take? Pls suggest me. How long we have to try to conceive?

A New Journey!

My hubby and were TTC for 14 months before I found out I was pregnant. The road was long and discouraging but it was so worth the wait! When that second line popped up on the pregnancy test I just could not believe it. I started to shake and cry. I phoned my best friend and could hardly squeek the news out.

I was on my second round of clomid @ 50mg and this month we went with CD3-7. Another new thing that we tried this month was pre-seed. Although I am not sure if either of these things were a determining factor due to the fact that I never tested positive for ovulation. I believe this baby is a miracle from God, but what baby isn't?

In March God gave me a verse from Psalms as an encouragement. It is Psalm 113:9 - "He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord." On August 15 he gave this same verse to someone who is like a second mom to me. She knew right away who it was talking about and prayed that God would be gracious to us. This was a few days prior to when I think I may have Ovualted. I believe that this baby is a miracle because of how all the pieces are fitting together. I know that some of you are not religious and I am not trying to force anything on you... I just wanted you to know the true beauty of my story. :)

We are Due sometime between May 12 - 16, 2009. I am not all together sure because I am not really sure on the O date. I will be going for my first prenatal in a couple of weeks and I probably won't know a whole lot more until then.

Thanks for all the prayers and support! It has been such a blessing to be a part of fertility ties and I am hoping and praying that all those longing for their BFP will get it soon!

~~~~Baby Dust~~~~
I am turning 23 weeks tomorrow and I dont know what to tell people when they ask me how many months along I am. TO me 24 weeks would equal out to 24 weeks but a pregnancy is 10 months long so how the heck does that work? I found something on the internet that showed that weeks 23-27 are the 6th month, 28-31 the 7th, 32-35 the 8th and 36-40 the 9th. Is this right.....?
clomid question for Dr Q and ladies
I dont have any insurance that covers infertility treatments. My Gyno is going to prescribe me three months of clomid and that is all. My question is if 3 months doesnt work would it be okay to order clomid online? I have read many stories on here where many women have taken it and gotten prego in months 5 or 6.
Trying to concieve for two years
Hello, my name is Saarah
I tried to conceive for about 18 months with no success. I’m 23 years old and always had regular period (28 days cycle), but when I got married after couple months my cycle start changing from 28 to 30, 33, 35 to 39 day cycle. For the past two month I had UTI (kidney infection) and almost all antibiotics did not work for me except the last one. Right after this I was diagnosed with vaginosis, again I start taking antibiotics and just finished 2 weeks ago. Last month 05/08 my cycle changed 35 days cycle to 28 day cycle. So I’m not suppose to get my period until 6/14/08 but cycle changed again this month to 25 day cycle. I always have very painful periods; I can’t even go to school or work for the first 2 days. But I get menstrual cramps 1 1/2-2 weeks before my next cycle. I also have painful ovulation. I have about 1- 1 ½ of pain free of every month.
Also my lower abdominal hurts all the time even after period ended for the past 2 months. I though it was due the kidney infection but since I don’t have that anymore still hurts. I don’t know what to do anymore. I went to the Doctor (OBY.) and nothing had worked for me yet. They told me to try taking birth control pills but it may not work but it could help. Since I’m trying to have baby I don’t want it take it.
One of the OBY that I just went thinks that I might have endometriosis but she is not sure; she want me to have pelvic ultrasound but I can’t right now because my insurance will not cover it until the end of July. What should I do? I really don’t know what’s going on with me. I really need help and advice, and I would greatly appreciate any advice that you can give me.
Thanks, :(
Saarah
why didn't I ovulate
Hello Dr Q, I miscarried in Jan 2008. I ended up having to have a hysteroscopy and D and C, in april 2008 due sudden bleed. Happy to say this has settled down. I ovulated around time of D and C I noted fertile CM and positive OPK,obviously did not BD as had just had the surgery. My question now is it day 17 this is about the time I normally ovulate. I have fertile CM and an almost positive OPK. But not positive. Why would I not ovulate? I will see my Ob Gyn soon but he always has a wait and see approach. Just getting frustrated I just want the chance of beeing in the TWW!
i haven't wrote one of these in ages,
but lately i've been goin through some tough stages.
two months ago two pink lines showed up on my pregnancy test,
and since then i've been tryin to do my best.
this is the hardest thing a teenage girl has to go through,
especially when she doesn't know anything to do.
not too long after that my clothes stopped fitting me,
and from a different perspective i started to see.
one of the hardest things is having to give up my dreams,
but life is always like that is seems.
since then me and my boyfriend fight so much more,
i always wonder why did this have to happen to me for?
the changes in my hormones sends my emotions wild,
but that's nothing compared to the thought having a child.
i'm only eighteen weeks into my pregnancy,
but it seems like it's been an eternity.
i know people look at my belly and talk when they see me in the halls,
but that's not hte only reason i put up this wall.
feelings of lonelinesss and distrust came so fast,
and i wonder how long everything will last.
it's hard being a 17 year old senior who's also a to be mother,
but i've been told the love for this baby will be like no other.
i hope we'll get through this and things will be okay,
but i know we'll be great parents no matter what people will say.
i know neither of us are ready for this obstacle yet,
but having this baby i'm sure we'll never regret.
