Birth Control To Clomid

I was given Metformin a week ago to take but I have been having terrible side effects from it. I stopped taking it last night. My RE who I can't seem to get a hold of told me that this may happen that I might not be able to take it...she said if that happens she'll have to prescribe birth control to get rid of the cysts from PCOS. What are the chances of taking birth control then switching to clomid to induce ovulation if any? Thanks in advance!

If It Sounds To Good To Be True....

Well last Thursday I went to the RE for the 1st time with my husband after waiting a yr. of ttc...I was told I have PCOS which I already was pretty sure I knew from the tests I had done before the appt. Was told that Metformin would do the trick and I would be pregnant in no time...well a week of metformin has come and gone and I have stopped taking it because my intestines felt like they were going to fall out of me..(I know To Much Info.) but I also had really bad pain in my abdomen like a burning pain with it. Well after I stopped last night my husband was apparently relieved that I stopped it and informed me he doesn't want to get pregnant right now because the economy is in the toilet...so I think thanks for springing this on me now after we have been trying for awhile and I thought we were on the same page! So today I am an emotional mess...I took yesterday and the day before off work from the pain of metformin at work today but wish I could just hide under a blanket...I know that's not a solution but I can't help to think that this whole time he was just looking for a reason to finally admit what he had been thinking all along! The phrase comes to mind if it sounds to good to be true it probally is....hmm...

Metformin,IBS, & Imodium?!?!

I have just been told I do have PCOS and the RE just gave me a prescription for metformin 850mg's x1 for the 1st week then 2x's after that. I have IBS already and I can't get out of the bathroom, I have taken 4 days worth of pills. Is it ok to take imodium to help with the side effects of this drug?

Low GI diet to improve PCOS

Hi Ladies, I had my first appointment with my acupuncturist yesterday, and one of the interesting things she mentioned, which so far I haven't tried, is a low GI diet.

The acupuncturist said that she thought my Dr should have tried me on this diet before putting me on metformin.

So my question is this, has anyone conveived or at least found their PCOS symptoms have improved, by adopting a low GI diet? And if so, can you recommend any diet books on this?

Thanks in advance!

My Story

I'm new here. I'm 21 years old and I have a 2 1/2 year old son, my blessing from up above.

My fiance and I started TTC #2 in July of last year, with no luck. When I skipped a period in december I was sure that was it. It wasn't. I was diagnosed with PCOS on May 2nd, a mild case. My testosterone is a couple levels above what it should be, and I don't have any cysts on my ovaries.

I was put on Metformin. I started slow and worked my way up to 2000 mg by the end of may. I then got my first AF on June 13th. I've had AF every month since then.

We were TTC #2, but then we decided now is not the right time and we decided to wait. Now I haven't gotten my period. I'm freakin out! But we'll see, I'm gonna wait awhile before doing anything.

That's my story so far!

tests with clomid?

Can you tell me what tests dr.s typically test for while on clomid? My dr. had me call when my cycle started and then the nurse asked if I wanted to go with the follicle test on the 26th, so I said yeah. But is there a blood test to check levels or anything? I have NEVER had my progesterone levels checked! So I was curious what tests are usually done with clomid. Oh for more info,I have PCOS, and only 1 ovary, I am on metformin, been on it for almost 2 months now, did provera to start a period, then started first round of clomid this month as well.... any thoughts?

Boo's Journey... feel free to come along for the ride!

Well, about me. I am 29 years old and I live in London, UK. I have been married for almost one year to a wonderful man.

Came off BCP in November 07, straight after our wedding, but didn't start actively TTC until March 08.

I have never had a regular cycle in my life, and was on BCP for about 13 years, which of course just masked the situation. So I decided to see a gynae who gave me lots of blood tests, and an ultrasound, confirming that I have pcos, but that I do ovulate on my own. The problem is that on my own my cycles last anywhere from 5-10 weeks, making it really difficult to pinpoint my ovulation. In May 08 I took my first round of Clomid (100mg) but didn't ovulate until CD26, which my Dr was not happy with, so she put me up to 150mg straight away (although we waited a month before taking the clomid as we were moving house). So last month (Aug 14th cycle) I took 150mg, but had a very confusing cycles with my OPK's turing positive several days before my temps rose. I think I ovulated on CD19, which was a huge improvement.

I thought we were covered anyhow, and thought we had done everything right, but spotting started on 12dpo and AF arrived the next day.

Went back to see the gynae 2 weeks ago who gave me a prescription for metformin 1500mg, which I am now taking, along with the clomid CD2-6. Currently on CD8. This month going to take expectorant again, as found it helped with cm last cycle.

Last week was the toughest hurdle of the ttc journey so far. My younger brother got married under three months ago, and last Thursday announced that they are pregnant, first try. We have been trying for six months and have not told my brother or SIL that we are trying. DH and I really are thrilled for them, but I can't explain how hard it was to hear that they are already pregnant. It sounds so selfish, but I am the oldest and I really wanted to have the first grandchild. I feel like a horrible person for feeling this. I know that there is plenty of love to go around for all of the future grandchildren in our family... but I am finding it really hard to deal with.

So I have put on a brave face for my brother and SIL and they have no idea what we're going through. I would be devastated if they thought for a second that we aren't happy for them... we really are... it's so hard to explain but I hope someone on here understands and doesn't think I am a terrible person.

It is so hard to want something so desperately and it be just outside your grasp.

Still, I have had a few days for the news to sink in, and I am excited for a niece or nephew. Also, if I can fall pregnant soon, my baby and my brothers will be really close in age, and SIL and I can be pregnancy buddies, so hopefully it will all work out for the best.

If we don't fall pregnant this month I am going to book myself in for a hsg, which really scared me. But I need to know if there is anything else wrong, other than the pcos. DH did his SA this week, too, so results should be back on a week or so.

I have been following the journeys of the amazing women on this site, and have picked up sooo much info here, this site is amazing. Thanks for reading, and babydust to all!!

PCOS

I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 months ago and I never had periods but like once every 7 months. My OBGYN put me on metformin and she told me that if I started my cycle to take clomid days 5-9. I did start my period a second time in 21 days. Considering I'm used to having 7 month cycles, 21 days seemed too short to me so I called my doctor and she said it was fine to go ahead and take the clomid. Before I was diagnosed PCOS my old OBGYN had me on different doses of clomid for about a year and I never once ovulated. With the metformin will it make me ovulate faster this time? And because I am having periods now does that mean that I definitely am ovulating? And on average, after people are diagnosed PCOS how long after starting treatment are most women pregnant? I have been trying to conceive for a little over 3 yrs now and I am going crazy. I need some help and encouragement. Today is day 12 of my cycle and I did take the clomid this month for days 5-9. Please give me some help and advice? Thank you *Beth*

Jamie's journey...the beginning, or the end? We'll find out!

My name is Jamie, but my family calls me "James". My BF and I have been TTC for almost a year, during which I was finally diagnosed with PCOS, which I already knew for years. Once I was diagnosed my doctor put me on Metformin. He also prescribed Clomid which thankfully, I had studied on my own and knew what it was and what it was used for, because he basically wrote the script and sent me on my way. Needless to say I have since found a new doctor that went over my history, and started a new plan. Clomid for 3 cycles, if no pg then next thing is LAP to look for endo. If after that, still nothing we'll go for the HSG. I do ovulate on my own and have regular cycles, which was determined through progesterone/estradiol blood test last month. So the next 3 months will determine our TTC journey. This could be the end, or just the beginning. I also started charting last cycle and was pleased to see the biphasic pattern with no medical intervention!!

I should also mention that my boyfriend has 4 kids, which we have full time, so we know there's no problem on his part!! We're ready for one (or two! Twins are on both sides of our maternal family) of our own!

Clomid and metformin

I've heard women with PCOS like me can take clomid and metformin together. Does adding metformin increase success rate? Does the metformin with clomid increase multiples ovulations or decrease it? Can you get pregnant faster with metformin added? Thanks!!

Dr. Q, could I get your opinion here?

I took Clomid this cyccle, I have PCOS but determined by progesterone/estradiol test last month, that I do ovulate on my own. I have only been charting my BBT for 2 cycles, and last month was obviously bi-phasic with no meds, but this month I don't see a shift...my cycles are consistent every month between 26-30 days, so if I did not O this month, when should I expect AF?

I also take Metformin 500 mg/day.

Maybe I should also mention that I was under a great amount of stress this month with Hurricane Ike, we thought it was going to hit us and this was during my normal O period...

http://fertilitygal.com/BBTChart/When-should-I-expect-AF.htm
