effects of medications and sperm production

My husband is currently taking a Medrol dose pack and Zithromax. In the last few weeks he has also taken Erythromycin and Levaquin for a sinus infection. He ran a low grade fever a couple of days. My question is do these medications, low grade fever have an immediate effect on sperm count/quality or will any effects not show up for the two and a half months it takes for sperm to mature?

Question for Dr Q ?

I have PCOS and was tested via blood last week to see if I was insulin resistant...as I'm TRYING to CONVINCE my

OB that I want to take Metformin, I've read and heard personal stories about PCOS and Met.......

I am insulin resistant.

HOWEVER...my OB prescribed me Glyburide instead.....what gives? Will it do the same thing with PCOS or should I call them and re-ask for Metformin?

Thank you!

~Dee

GOING HARD!!

So I went to the new doc 2day for b/w and u/s and we are going hard! Its funny cuz I will be taking MORE meds that with my IVF cycle and im only doing an IUI, lol.

I will be starting 2moro and taking 175 of menopure (I took 75 with IVF) and 300 of gonal-f and I think I 225 with the IVF.

She knows that I don’t want to play around and she is on board! Yeah! I don’t have any cysts so I will be fine to start the meds 2moro night. Im switching to Gonal-F cuz my insurance pays more for that medication than the Follistim.

I wont be going back until next Monday for u/s and b/w and then hopefully trigger soon after that. I am hoping that this will do the trick cuz I am surely running out of steam with this TTC bullsh*t!

Lexapro withdrawal

Hey doc - I am going thru some Wicked withdrawal from Lexapro right now and am feeling sooooo dizzy, among other crappy things, but wondering if I can take Dramamine or something for the dizziness while I am TTC or preggo. I am in the 2WW now.

Also wondering if any of you ladies have gone thru this and what you did to help ease it. I had been taking 20mg for a few months and then went down to 10mg about 3 weeks ago. I then just stopped takin them completely on Monday and by wed afternoon I felt like garbage. I had a major migraine and went to bed at 7 then all day yesterday fought off puking and falling over and then last night I thought I was in the beginning stages of labor cuz my stomach hurt and cramped so badly that I was in tears. I cant concentrate and my brain is sooo foggy its crazy, yesterday at work I couldnt remember how to weigh mail, which I do every day!

I actually took a 10mg pill 2day in hopes that some of this would subside cuz I am at work but I want off completely since I am on the homeopathic remedy now.

A Quick Question

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a male. I took a small dose of Cephradine (about 500 mg total) and melatonin (0.5mg) a couple of days ago. I wonder if they have any adverse effect on sperm quality or not. My wife is trying to conceive these months. I am not sure if those drugs could cause sperm mutation that leads to birth defects or not.

Thank you very much for your time and your help.

Sincerely yours,

Richard

Psychiatric drugs & conceiving

I'm 32 & have been married & on the pill for 10 years. I got off the pill about 7 months ago. I have a regular cycle of 25 days. Never had any "female" problems. My husband & I are very healthy - don't drink/smoke.

I am also Bipolar. I take Lithium, Seroquel & Welbutrin. I feel that my disorder is finally under control. I have been "trying" to get pregnant for 4-5 months. Could my meds interfere with me getting pregnant? (I do understand that I need to consult my doctor about taking meds while pregnant.)

Is there anything else you could suggest that might help me conceive faster? We put a family on hold for career purposes & now feel crunched for time.

Effects of Fertility Medication

I started taking fertility medication in September of 2007. I started on Clomid for 2 months, went straight to Femara for 3 months, skipped a month to have laparoscopy, and then started injectable follistim for one month. Therefore, since last September I have been on and off fertility drugs and I am wondering if these fertility drugs can affect my weight, water retention etc. I am an avid gym go-er. I lift weights 5 days a week and do cardio every day of the week. I drink a gallon of water a day. Since last September I have put on about 12 pounds. My body feels like it is full of fluid and I can't seem to get my weight back down. Is this a normal reaction to my body having synthetic hormones introduced intermittently over a period of months? I'm just wondering if I'm going crazy or if this can be a real side effect?

Acne Medication TTC/Pregnancy

Hi Everyone!

Okay, along with all of the various symptoms of PCOS... Acne has reared its ugly head.

Since stopping Birth Control my acne has flared up terribly!! I finally received a prescription for Clomid and started it this past week (April 30 '08). So we are hoping for a +HPT in the near future.

I have been using Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Control (Saysilic Acid).
IVF protocol?

When I went thru the first IVF I had to go in on day 21 and then get the ok to start the lupron then wait for AF and go back in for b/w and u/s to get ok to start injections on day 3..... my question is this - is that how it is always done? Cuz when I was talking to my doc one night he said that he had some ideas on how the 2nd IVF could work better and also said that we wouldnt have to go thru the 2 month process? How does that happen and can it happen without doing it like above?

Also, they pulled out only 7 eggs last time and more than half of them didnt have anything in them, he said they had a shell but no “yolk” why does this happen and im only 33, is this something that will happen again?
