Repeated ivf attempt question

Hi,

I'm about to start the ivf process and the dr's office is now closed to ask this. Do you feel that repeated ivf's decrease chances of conception/egg suppy over time? Also do our chances of conception go up with a second ivf attempt? I'm just trying to figure out if I'm looking against only one try or having to do two ivf cycles. it's all a money thing, which makes it hard since insurance doesn't help with this. My fsh is 18 but everything else is fine. The dr feels ivf is my only hope although he did not tell me the success rate for someone like me, except that my age, 34, will be to my benefit. I'm worried I'll exhaust my savings for a 1% chance. Any advice? Thanks :)

Balanced Translocation

After our first round of IVF, my dh and I were overjoyed that it worked! We had been trying for 3 years at that point. However, I miscarried between weeks 8 and 10. It was devastating, and I had to have a D & C on Feb. 3. Our RE did some genetic testing on any tissue she could get from the surgery. They found a balanced translocation...chromosomes 7 and 10 were switched around. The baby had 46 chromosomes and everything else seemed alright. So, she wanted us both tested. As I thought, my dh was fine...but I have the same exact balanced translocation as my fetus did. But...I survived! I have about a 25% chance of having a baby w/o miscarrying because of this. How did I make it? Who knows??? We have to meet with a genetic counselor on Monday, March 22nd to see where we go from here. We have 3 frozen embryos that are in the blastocyst stage...so it's too late to test them. Do we take our chances? We'll see what our options are. WHY ME?!?!?!?

Need Advice

Just a little info about me before I ask my questions. I am 29 and Husband is 32 we have been TTC for 5 years. However my doctor has my infertility period at 11 years as that is how old my daughter is. The first month the Dr did a natural IUI. This month he went sraight to IUI with injectables. Is this normal or do most people start with clomid first? Husband has good counts but low motility. Also money is not an issue so I was wondering how many IUI's I should try before moving to IVF. I don't want to jump the gun on IVF but I also don't want to waste precious time either.

Hi everyone,

I had completed IVF for the first time in Feb 2010. Due to OHSS I had to opt for a freeze all. I currently have 7 little frosties all at 5 day blasts. I will be doing a ntaural ET in April and am wanting to share this experience with anyone else that may be going thru this also. Whether it is first time IVF, or transfer or even your 2nd or 3rd I would love to hear from you all!

Progesterone support for IVF

Recently received my 3rd BFN following IVF with ICSI. It is following male fertility issue. We have had 2 children naturally prior to this situation. I took 1 mL of progesterone IM starting at retrieval. They never check this lvel as have heard others report. Is this always an adequate level? On try #2 I actually started a full period the day before my blood test and in both the other cycles I have had at at least a little red on the TP at day 8(1st x) and day 11(3rd x). I saw on Retrieval discharge papers a dose dbl this as an option. The nurse told me they only use the increased level for those over 40. I have just turned 38 in feb.

IVF vs. TET and progesterone levels during TWW

So I have just recieved a BFN for our 3rd fresh IVF cycle on3/5. I have never had any prior issues, but my DH suffered hemoragic stroke in '07. He has not had any ejaculate since this time so they believe this may be the cause. He had a TESE procedure so we might use ICSI and was very successful with plenty of motile sperm retrieved and frozen. My cycles have always been productive with between 16 & 20 mature eggs retrieved followed by 13-16 fertilized. We had a 3day with 3 embryos, a 5 day with 2 & a 3day with 4 assisted hatching. I just turned 38 on 2/9 so most of these were complete while 37. My FSH was 5 so this does not seem to be an issue especially considering the good outcome of eggs. (my dr. referred to me as a little egg machine) We have also had 2 children together naturally(unfortunately our ds died from pre-B ALL the age of 3 only 2 wks after diagnosos) We were told this was an aquired disease so should not worry about genetic abnormalities.

As you can imagine this is all very frustrating. I don"t really get why it's not working since we have found sperm ,fertilize and make it to ET. Just odds? The only issue i have encountered involves my cervix curving upward and then back down to uterus. On last ET the dr. had some difficulties but not on the prior two. I have read that TET is primarily used on cpls with a male actor infertility and prior trancervical transfer difficulties. Could this be what we should do? I can"t find much about the odds in comparison to traditional IVF. Have a consult with my Dr. tomorrow and will ask, but would truley appreciate any info you could give me for the conversation. I like to be well informed. Also I took 1 mL of progesterone IM starting at retrieval. They never check this lvel as have heard others report. Is this always an adequate level. On try #2 I actually started a full period the day before my blood test. The nurse told me they only increase this level for those over 40.

THANK-YOU SO MUCH for taking thie time to read this. I appreciate any information you can give.

Is the cervix like a one way door? since they inject the embryos thru the cervix into the uterus how do they not fall right out?

I just mean since the inject the embryos thru the cervix into the uterus how do they not fall right out? During the transfer do u kinda crank open the cervix opening at all then it will close on it's own keeping the embryos in there?

I know that we have no way of knowing that they don't fall put other than plenty of ladies give birth to ivf babies every year, lol.

Thx doc Q

Using an egg donor at 40 after failed IUIs and IVFs

Thought it was time to update my journey...

The donor's retrieval is tentatively scheduled for 4/6 and transfer will be Day 3 or 5. I'm on BCP for 2 more weeks. I've been taking them for almost 3 weeks and have been having cramping and spotting daily. Yuck.

I start Lupron (to shut down my system) in a couple weeks, then delestrogen (to thicken the uterus) then progesterone starting a few days before transfer. I thought with using a donor I'd get to skip some of the injections. I guess it's like doing a FET. Only 3 RE visits including transfer though.

April 2010 IVF

Hi ladies. I am doing FET mid April. I am 32 and DH is 38. This will be baby #1 for both of us. I have tubal factor and DH is fine. TTC since 2004. Didn't truly start actively trying until October 2008. I just went through IVF ER in February 2010. I am participating in a study that compares the differences between fresh embryo transfer and frozen embryo transfer, mainly the affect stimulation medications have on the uterus. The clinic randomly selects the patient to either fresh or frozen. I was selected for frozen. All 5 of my fertilized eggs were frozen at day 1. ER was February 23rd and just waiting for AF to get my FET dates. Anyone else care to share in this journey? Regardless if this is your first round of IVF or if you are a veteran, fresh or frozen, I would love to have some wonderful friends to walk this road with.

My Story

My husband and I have been together for 12 years and were married nearly 8 years ago. We've been trying to conceive for 2 years. I always knew this road might be a bit arduous as he was paralyzed from the waist down in 2000, when we were dating. In fact, it wasn't until the last few years that he was fully rehabilitated and able to produce sperm. In January of 2009 I made my first appointment to see a fertility specialist, and he with a urologist. During routine testing, the doctor confirmed that I had several ovarian cysts, at which point he put me on Depot Lupron for two months to prepare my body for laparoscopic surgery. My RE further diagnosed me after the procedure with stage IV endometriosis. (Historically speaking, I've always had horrendous cramping around period time but simply thought that was normal.) Once my body healed from surgery, I started Clomid and we embarked on three IUI's (triggering each time with HCG). But with his slowed motility and my endometriosis, I think we knew deep down that IVF was eminent. So here we are, February 2010, and nearing the completion of the stimulation phase using Follistim. (I've also been treated for close to 7 seven months with acupuncture.) My tentative retrieval date is 2/26/10 and I hope to have a 5 day transfer following. Positive vibes and best wishes to all for successful and healthy journeys!!!

Mikkey's first IVF, Feb /March 2010

So here I am, after 4 failed cycles with injectables (Gonal – f and Ovidrel for Trigger) - 1 with TI and 3 IUI's, on the road to my first IVF and hoping from the bottom of my heart this would also be the last.

A little about me for those who don't know me: I am 39 yrs. old and in the Unexplained Infertility category. All my and my DH's fertility tests came back good and normal so until I get some answers I will blame it on the age. We have been trying actively for a little bit more than 1 year now. I know time is not on my side but I am still praying that some day real soon I will be able to hold my little bundle of joy in my arms. Please pray for me that it will happen ladies, we don't have any kids together. DH has a daughter from his first marriage who lives with her mom. I finished taking the pill (BCP) yesterday, Feb 21st and Friday, Feb. 26th I will have my 1st u/s and hopefully that same day I will start stimming for my IVF.

I will post all my IVF related details: schedule, dates, meds, etc. under the About Me section under my profile.

I am usually a positive person looking at the bright side of things and enjoy life but I have to admit, going through an IVF cycle it is not an easy and sunny journey...I also have to mention, I don't think I would've been able to go through any of this alone, without my DH by my side who is a great guy, very caring (except when he drives, lol), calm, he knows how to make me laugh, he helps me keep my balance, and much more....I truly believe that being in such kind of loving relationship is just priceless and thank you God for that!

This FT forum has been a wonderful source of support, information and inspiration for me and also helped me a lot to maintain my sanity. And ever since I've joined I got addicted and I stopped feeling alone in this emotional roller coaster and thank you all for this. I have read so many amazing and touching real life stories and I continue to be amazed by all the love, courage, faith, willpower and positive vibes coming out from your posts. You will all be / or already are, such incredibly wonderful moms some day..

Thank you for spending the time to read my story and if you feel like sharing your thoughts, experiences, advices, or just a simple hello, you are more than welcome to join me, life is always much more meaningful and beautiful when you have friends :)
