Bleeding after HSG (TMI but I really need help)

I had a saline ultra sound on 8-18-08 that made my period start early, then on CD 6 (8-25-08) I had an HSG. The dr said that there wasnt any bleeding from the procedure so I figured that I would stop my period on CD 7 like I normally do. Well it is now CD 9 and I am still bleeding, yesterday I thought that it had stopped but when I woke up this morning there was red blood again, but in the red blood there is this slimy almost gray discharge. Is this normal or is it a sign of an infection?

HSG tomorrow*** Wish me luck :)

Hello, I have my second HSG tomorrow. I am soooooo nervous. I am not nervous about the procedure, just the results. I had an HSG with my laproscopy, D&C, and hysterscopy 2 months ago. The HSG showed 2 blocked tubes. Dr. lasered endometriosis from tubes and now I am going back in to see if the surgery re-opened tubes or not. Dr. said not to get hopes up because the surgery isn't usually successful and that we will probably have to do IVF. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover IVF and we can't afford it so I have a lot riding on the results tomorrow :) Please say a little prayer for me (and my tubes :) LOL! Thanks Ladies!

Can anyone explain the HSG procedure to me?

Can anyone explain the HSG procedure to me? How is it done? Do you know what kind of dye is used? I'm allergic to iodine dye, so I'm hoping that it's a different kind. Also, where in the cycle is it usually performed? And has anyone had any success getting insurance to cover it? Thanks!

Wendy

HSG

I have a few questions about HSG's. This will be my first.

1) Do docs usually recommend rest after the procedure? Can I go to work after it's finished? (I have it late afternoon and am scheduled to work night shift)

2) Are there any special instructions I should know before-like do I need to have full bladder, or should I not eat or drink anything for a certain period?

Anything else I should know? No body has given me any instructions on it yet.

Thanks!

CD70 turned into CD1-FINALLY AF HAS ARRIVED!!!!!

Finally had some spotting yesterday evening & full flow today! Should have know it as everything made me cry yesterday, lol! Still feel like crying today-everything seems wrong & mean & just not right! I think I am getting really depressed about this whole TTC process...Also really have no faith in my RE's ability/willingness to help me get preggo at all.

Called their office 1st thing this AM to get an apt for an US to check to see if the cycst is still there (which is what they told me to do) & the nurse was like-well, you don't really have to come in unless you just want to cause we are not going to start your treatments yet anyway. Now, I already knew that I was not going to start back on the meds cause they wanted me to try & drop some weight-1st they said 10 lbs. Then next apt they said 20 would out me closer to my ideal weight & be better. Now this morning it is 25 lbs with no reason & I was so furious I did not even ? the new goal. She went ahead & made the apt for the US but NOW they say they may not put me on the BC pill even if the cyst is still there. Does that even sound reasonable to anyone? If it is still there then it's been there since MAY or even April, why would they not put me on the pill to get rid of it?!?!!? She also wants me to go ahead & do the HSG next week but I don't know-I am not really feeling confident in them so I will have to think about it. I'm just so confused & depressed about all of this!!!

Dr. Q please

I had my appt with my RE and a bit confussed on certain things.

I had done a transvaginal u/s he says that i have pretty good lookin ovaries and he has patients that would kill for ovaries like mine, which is good. If I have good ovaries would there be a good chance that my tubes are good? He seen a frequent amount of eggs. Now I have an up coming appt for HSG and blood work for progesterone and other things i think. Do these tests check for LPD? Would it be possible for me to have LPD along with PCOS?

Are they're anymore tests that would need to be taken after the HSG other than blood work?

If my tubes are blocked is there a good chance the dye from the HSG will push it out? If not is there a way to un block them, what would be my options then?ah.a lil worried here.

He did say if he could take a guess he thinks I'm not ovulating.. If I get normal periods( he says very reg 21day cycle which I notice varies b/c sometimes I never get it on the same exact day but within the day or two) wouldn't that mean I'm ovulating on a reg period?

I just feel all confussed..

You do sucha great job thankyou so much.

When is a hsg nesesary?

Reason i ask is my RE office said they never ordered one, and that it does not look like they would. Do they only do an HSG for a particular reason? If so what? I am going to be ttc again after next cycle and we both want to make sure that all is ok.

ectopic?

Hello,

After reading so much online, I've become paranoid of an ectopic pregnancy. I've had bloodwork 4x and every time the numbers have doubled or gone up by at least 70%. I haven't had any bleeding or spotting and am not really having any pain (other than some minor cramping here and there) and when I had my first u/s at 4w6d my RE saw a small gestational sac. Though she said there is always a small possibility it could be a pseudosac. I had an HSG done 2 months ago and my tubes were open. Given all of these facts, is it safe to say this is not an ectopic? My sac measured right on target - if it were a pseudosac would it be the correct size? Thanks

TTC after hsg

Hello! I am scheduled for an hsg test 3-4 days before ovulation (I use ovulation tests). I was prescribed to take Doxycycline (as a preventive measure) 2 days before the test and 3 days after the test. In case the test result is fine, do you think it will be ok to TTC this month? How long does it take for a Antibiotic to be eliminated from the body? (I usually don't take any medication while ttc). How quickly after hsg can we ttc?

I appreciate you answer. Thank you in advance!

ok weirdness afoot!

Hello ladies, I have an interesting thing going on. TTC x2 1/2 yrs. Started with the RE in April just. Had my HSG on July 2nd and my LH surge way later than usual on the 7th/8th of July. AF was "due" (I'm irregular at 21-25d usually) at the latest two days ago. Lots of cramping like AF usually does, but nothing to show for it. Also a abs feeling like I've done a thousand crunches.
Dr. Vic or any other ectopic specialist PLEASE HELP ME!

Hi Dr. Vic. I read a bit about you and notice you are very involved and familiar with ectopic cases. I want to tell you a bit about my situation as brief as possible and please tell me what you think. I am 27 and my husband 29. We got pregnant last year for the first time I was 26 and it turned out to be ectopic in my right tube. We werent even trying and it was unplanned. I found out at about 4 weeks in June 2007 and my tube had to be removed. In December 2007 I did go for an hsg, and they said my left tube after a bit of pushing in the dye was open. Back track a bit, I never really knew what caused my ectopic. My new gyno says that from the pics of the surgery there is evidence of scar tissue, and looks like I may have had an infection when younger like chlamydia. I dont remember exactly but I do recall finding out of an infection when younger but I treated it as soon as i found out and so did my husband. After the ectopic I checked myself for stds to make sure and everything came out clear. I have been ttc for 9 months now. Just today I got my period so im going on 10. The last 3 cycles i did clomid 50mg and that didnt work either. My period is very regular, i also ovulate fine even without the clomid. I did bbt, Opks, and all the tracking for the 9 months of ttc so i dont understand if my tube is open what is going on? Could it be that stressing over it is really affecting it? Im honestly lost Dr. and I need some guidance. I dont know what to do next but give up trying like my husband says and maybe that way it will happen. Please tell me what you think of my situation. Do you think I have a chance at getting pregnant? What should I do? What am i doing wrong? I take flaxseed and my prenatals every night. Im heartbroken and dont know what I will do living my life w/out our own child. This is actually my last attempt at searching for answers. I need to take a break from all the pressure and stress but really want to know your thoughts first. Thank you so much!

different opinions

Hi Dr. Q, So, I went to Duke Fertility today for a second opinion on my HSG and next step. I have two blocked fallopian tubes - one distal and one frontal.. They BOTH want to do surgery. But one wants us to wait on the surgery before we are going to conceive - I am going to move to another state for a year to finish my internship and if we need medicines or IVF we will wait till i return (if not, we will just start trying). He wants to wait because of scar tissue. But, said we can do whatever we want as if this were a boob job and we were selecting a cup size. The other doctor suggests doing it now and find out what the status of the tubes are. One doctor also read the ultrasound with "multiple small follicles on each ovary" and said "healthy" and one read it and said "PCOS". You had previously said that the ovary report sounded healthy. How do I know what to do or which doctor to go with... One is newer but really connected and the other is older and we did not connect. What would you recommend in terms of when to get the surgery? And which doctor to go with?
