Over 35, Fibroids, Searching for IVF Clinic...Seeking Similar

I have been so good about keeping my emotions in check, but I am near a breaking point, I'm afraid. I am 35, and have had 4 failed IUIs and one miscarriage (with my first IUI - I had a positive urine test, but the subsequent blood tests showed lowering HCG levels so it didn't take - is that called a chemical pregnancy? I am bad on the lingo.)

After my last failed IUI in December (on the 26th - Merry Christmas!), I told DH I can't deal anymore and we need to move on. So now we're scouting Chicagoland IVF clinics. I went to Advanced Fertility in Gurnee on Monday and their ultrasound showed that not only do I have fibroids (no surprise - I've known about them and actually had a huge one removed over a year ago), but it appears my rt ovary is stuck to the top of my uterus where the fibroid was removed. So he's not even sure he can extract from that ovary (which has 11 follicles and is my big producer, of course!).

I'm also trying to lose weight to increase fertility chances. I have lost 18.5lbs since Labor Day and have another 13 to go to get out of the "Obese" category for BMI. Using Weight Watchers right now, and I have to say this is the one area where I feel like I'm succeeding and seeing actual progress. Who knew that my 25-year weight-loss roller-coaster would be the thing keeping me afloat?!?! :)

On top of it all, my best friend, who has been going through all of this with me, has dropped out of the babymaking race for 6 months and won't discuss anything. So I feel like I've lost my support system. My mom is great, but I am an only child and the Great Hope for grandchildren, so she's emotionally charged in this situation. DH is wonderful, but overly pragmatic and doesn't see how incredibly sad this makes me. Other friends try to be supportive, but they don't know what it's like.

Anyway, if there's anyone else out there in a similar situation who wants to go through this together, I could use a new buddy! :) I promise I'm not a big whiner - just sometimes it feels like the rug has been pulled out from under me. I'm sure everyone here knows that feeling!

Best of luck to you all.... Jen

tailbone pain...during luteal phase

Hi everyone

I am hoping for some direction here...for the last 6 months or so i have suffered tailbone pain which is normally 5 days or so prior to Af..its not unbearable..i normally can use a heating pad BUT this past cycle it was truly unbearable..it started hurting about 4 days after ovulation and continued until about 3 days prior to my period. It hurt while i sat, it hurt like crazy when i stood up and when i slept..i basically felt crippled during this time..i felt i couldnt do anything..the tailbone pain would feel really tight on both sides of my back..my buttocks hurt and my waist hurt..it was all so very tight and painful...nothing worked..i felt like i injured myself but a few days prior to af it completely went away..i almost thought i was nuts..how can i feel such horrible pain for 2 weeks than it just go away..my period was actually GREAT..hardly no cramps, no backache...i tried to get in to see my fertility specialist but he was away so i will try to get in soon but does ANYONE have any clue as to what this can be? i know its hormonal related..could it be endometriosis? cysts maybe? fibroid..? anyone else have this happen

Anyone have any hysteroscopy experience?

I was curious to know if anyone had any experience with this.

I have an apt the 19 of this month **March** to have this done.

I am having this done to remove a fibroid that is growin from my uterus wall into my uterus.

The doctor said this should help cure my abnormal bleeding and maybe help chances of fertility.

Is there a link between IUI fertility shots and fibroid growth?

I recently had an abdominal myomectomy to remove 5 fibroids. As I prepare to start a cycle of IUI with injections I am worried about whether these hormones will stimulate regrowth of fibroids.

Is there even the slightest correlation? And if i don't appear to have any fertility issues (other than being 37 years old) would you advice a a natural IUI cycle before using injections?

Clomid and fibroids

I have read that there is a possible link to fibroids increasing in size and Clomid. Is this true? I am prone to fibroids, several removed by hysteroscopy over the years. I still have several small fibroids recently noted on u/s. Should I be concerned? On a sidenote: When do couples begin timing when taking Clomid, 3-7 regimen? I have problems with opk. I assume Clomid may affect me differently than natural cycle? Thank you.

TTC/IUI after a 2nd Trimester Loss

Hi Ladies! I hope everyone is well. I'm hoping to share this journey with other women so here it goes. I lost my son at 20 weeks Dec 07 and haven't been able to get preggo since. I have fibroids that all docs say shouldn't cause problems as they aren't in the lining, HSG and saline sono show all clear. Hubby has great numbers but slightly low morphology and average motility. So, as of now, we are "unexplained". In a way I wish there was something concrete that we could pin point and fix but alas, we just keep trying. We have done one iui at our old clinic with clomid and no monitoring and I believe we missed O. We are currently in the middle of iui number two at a new clinc with clomid cd3-7 and gonal f on cd9. Cd 11 I had 5 follies ranging from 18-24 and I triggered that night with iui 36 hours later. I'm hoping and praying but trying not to get my hopes too high, the let down is way too intense.

So ladies, please share your stories!!

Should I have a myomectomy, prior to another IVF?

Hi there, was dianosed with pcos in 2001, since then i have had 12 months of clomid on seperate occasions, 3 x iui (bfn) and 2x ivf. The first I had a bfp but miscarried at 7 weeks, the other I had a bfn.

During my last ivf the dr found x2 fibroids. One of which was about 5cm in the left lateral uterine wall, not causing endometrial distortion. The other being about 1.5cm in the posterior fundus, causing endometrial distortion.

Will these interfere with my chances of implantation in ivf? Should I precede with a hysteroscopic myomectomy?

Lisa's Journey to Motherhood

I'm 43 years old and I've been married for about ten years. My DH and I were diagnoised with male factor infertility about four and half years ago, at which time we did not have IVF insurance coverage. Prior to determining that we had male factor infertility, I had a myomectomy to remove fibroids, which my then RE thought was the cause of our infertility. Given the cost of IVF and the low success rate based on my age, we opted not to pursue IVF.

Approximately two years after our initial infertility diagnosis, we started the adoption process. We were blessed with a beautiful, baby girl and were thrilled to be parents. We were madly in love with her, but our joy was short lived as the Birthmother changed her mind and our daughter was returned to her biological mother.

My DH and I said we would wait a year before re-visiting the adoption journey, two and half years later, we're living in a new city, working new jobs, which brings us to the present.

One day while sharing me and my DH's infertility issue and failed adoption journey with one of my co-workers, which was about two weeks before me and my DH's benefits open enrollment period was scheduled to closed, my co-worker suggested that I check to see if my new employer offered IVF coverage. You see after me and my DH's failed adoption, we couldn't really bring ourselves to having a serious discussion about adoption again or being parents. Therefore, I never thought to ask this question upon starting my new job.

Not only do I now have IVF coverage ($15K max), but my DH also has coverage ($10K max). Upon learning this, I immediately enrolled in my employer's plan, as I was already covered under my DH's plan and about three weeks later my DH and I were sitting in a RE's office ready to begin the journey to parenthood.

Because of our previous failed adoption and my fear of bringing a baby into this world with down syndrome, which I believe is more of a possibility based on my current age, we were now open to using donor eggs. Also, before our failed adoption, my DH was completely against the use of donor sperm, but he is now open to such.

My DH and I spent part of this past New Year's Eve in a hospital so that I can have a second surgery to remove fibroids before starting my first IVF cycle. The surgery was a success and next it was my DH's turn to have a TESE procedure to retrieve his sperm. My DH was such a trooper. Although a little nervous, he was very optimistic about his procedure and ready to go through with the procedure. I almost burst into tears when the doctors informed me that no sperm were retrieved as my DH's body isn't producing any sperm. You see, along our journey, we learned that my DH is a Cystic Fibrosis carrier, which explains the reason his body isn't making sperm along with some other traits.

My DH was initially sad, but then almost immediately became elated with the thought of father-hood and was ready to continue our IVF cycle with the use of the back up sperm that we purchased just in case no sperm could be retrieved from him.

I'm officially an IVFER and I'm very hopeful and excited about the new journey before me. I pray that this is our season to be the proud parents of a happy and healthy baby.

My Journey

Greetings;

I have been snooping around this board ever since November 2008. I have read several of your Journeys and have laughed, cried, and found myself routing for everyone to get BFP's. I also found myself waiting for YOUR beta results and praying, hoping wishing for good NEWS.

Here is my Journey:

I am 34 years old, my DH is 47. We have been married for almost 3 years now. I have a son from a previous marriage who is now 14 years old. I conceived him with only 1 ovary after major pelvic surgery (removal of right ovary, tube, tumor, and partial removal of tissue to the left ovary). My DH has no children of his own since he has no sperm count what so ever (azoospermia) He wants children, and treats my son as his own. My DH wants to add 3 other children to our household. I personally only want 1 more, but told him that we could compromise depending on what the future holds.

We will be using frozen donor sperm as a result of my husband's lack of sperm. As for me, I have already seen a RE and have had Ultrasounds, and blood work that all have come back ok. I have had problems with fibroids in the past, however, they have shrunk A LOT after having Uterine Embolization. The RE does not seem to think that it would cause any major problems with conception since the fibroids are not growing in my endometrial cavity where the baby would grow. In addition, there have been some reports showing successful pregnancies after Uterine Embolization.

We will be doing an IUI with donor sperm this month. We have an appointment this upcoming Monday for CD3-4 Ultrasound, and Estrogen Levels. I will also be started on Clomid for days 5-9. Wish us luck !!

Infertility

I have trying to get pregnat for two months. Nothing yet.

This is my results for the last ultrasound-The uterin exhotexture is inhomogeneous due to hyprechoic, posterior myometrial mass =3.2x2.8 cm. There is a second, hyperechoic mass within the fundus =4.3X3.5 cm.

The left ovary 4.9X4.1 cm and shwows a cyst =4.0X2.9 cm along with a second left ovarian cyst -1.6cm.

So far I have seen two doctors regarding this issue. The first doctor suggest to do c section and remove fibroids in order to get pregnat. The cysts the doctor is going to fpollow up after that.

The second doctor said don't worry about the fibroids and take care of cycts. They will be removed after the cycts will get more than 5 cm.

Now I am very counfused, and I don't know what to do. Please hlep me.

Thank you very much.

To Adopt Or Not?

My dh and I have been ttc for alittle over a year. I have known for awhile before that however that the journey may be in vain.

My mother had major uterian fibroids and had multilple miscarriages.

I have pcos and haven't ovulated ever!

We started the adoption process back in 2007 because we thought it could be something amazing to open our home to a child that really needed our love, but after starting the course we found that it really wasn't what we thought the process would be...so we put it on hold.

Now we are pursuing an RE and looking into fertility treatments I have an appt. in February to get a ultrasound to check my progress...but just as we think we are going to try that route the adoption worker calls out of the blue and asks if we could come meet them because they are having a shortage of foster homes and adoptive parents for kids in our area...

Now we don't know what we should do...I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason! So should we open our lives to fostering with a view to adopt? Or should we stay going down the road of fertility treatments?

What would you do?

fibroid and polyps

I am scheduled for a fibroid/polyp removal on Dec 19th. I related the events of this month (2 day period, early ovulation). could the fibroids/polyps be causing me to fast forward, as it were? If I'm still having regular cycles, (I am, this last one was a little unusual) but not entering menopause, do I have even a halfway decent chance of getting a BFP? Just curious

Dr. or ladies, is this pain normal in pregnancy?

Hello, I am a little over 9 weeks pregnant. I have endometriosis and used to get an ache type pain in my thighs and groin during my periods. I hadn't had that pain since the pregnancy however, I have it today (It is not near a missed period date). At my u/s at 6 weeks 5 days they noted an ovarian cyst and fibroids and said they didn't think they were a concern but would keep an eye on them. Is this pain normal? Is it something I should worry about or contact my doctor about? Thanks!

fibroids

I have two subserosal and 1 intramural fibroid- the biggest is 11 cms. So I guess I should get them removed by abd. myomectomy. I am so scared about decreasing my ability to have kids with the development of scar tissue and adhesions. Which risk is greater- miscarrying because of the size of the fibroid or not being able to have kids as a result of scar tissue and adhesions from the myomectomy
