Pregnancy

I am 32f. was married once for 8 months but i never conceived. According to medical reports, in my body male-hormones are more than female-hormones (imbalanced hormones...). My monthly periods are irregular. Are there some important precautions to take next time when i want a child? Is there any treatment/medicine available to get rid of this inbalanced hormones etc. How long it will take me to get pregnant.

Thanks.

Sperm Count for Hubby

I might be preggo right now, but I have a question anyways.Since we already have a 2 1/2 yr old and we conceived him on accident, and we know I have PCOS, is there any reason to worry about my DHs sperm count?

I'm 21, he's 22, and his dad and brothers never had an issue.

Fertility - Female

I have had a number of blood tests that show that I am not ovulating. I have had a Hystersalpingogram which came back with no problems and also a pelvic ultra sound that showed no internal problems. I do not have chlamydia as this has been tested for. Please can you advise why I am no longer ovulating. My BMI is 32.4 and I know that it should be below 29 which I am attempting to rectify but is there anything else I can do to start me ovulating again. I do have regualar 28 day cycles and also have the signs of ovulation but there does not appear to be an egg. I am 35 years old.

Baby's Sex

Hi doctor,

I read the following, "Under certain circumstances, if the female parent is producing abnormally high quantities of testosterone during the very early stages of pregnancy, even though the fetus is of XX genetic make-up, the mother's hormones can influence it to develop into a perfectly normal male, even without a Y chromosome (since, once male anatomy develops it will naturally take over producing the androgens the male will need for the rest of his life).

On the other hand, if an XY fetus cannot produce enough androgens to cancel out the estrogen and progesterone being produced by its mother (either because the fetus simply isn't producing adequate androgens or because the female is producing unusually high levels of feminizing hormones), it can develop into a perfectly normal female, despite having both an X and Y chromosome (again, the developed female anatomy will normally function to produce all the female hormones she needs in life)."

Do you think an XX male or an XY female can be absolutely normal and reproduce too as the bove statement suggests.

I'd appreciate your help,

Thank you.

Pregnant with PCOS

Hi Dr.Q,

I have another question for you. I was diagnosed with PCOS in August of 2007. The only signs of pcos that I have are polycystic ovaries by ultrasound along wih elevated testerone. I am currently 10w4d pregnant and am wondering if the elevated testerone will effect my pregnancy at all? I have been for 3 ultrasounds so far at 6w2d, 7w5d and 9w2d and we were able to see the heartbeat at all 3 ultrasounds. We have not heard the heartbeat yet because my fertility doctor didnt have the technology to hear the heartbeat at his office. I am going to see my new obgyn this week for my first prenatal appointment and I will be 11w1d and am praying they will try to hear the heartbeat. Just wondering if you have ever seen cases where elevated testerone has effected pregnancy at all. Thanks so much in advace Dr.Q and I really appreciate your help!

Male - Low Sperm Count, Female - Short Cycle

Hi, I'm new to this site as of a few minutes ago. I have been seeing an RE, had my first IUI last cycle with just 50mg of Clomid, BFN. I was told by the doctor that I have a really short cycle, I start about every 25 days and she thought that was odd because she thought the meds would make it longer. Is it going to be harder for me to get pregnant because I have such a short phase? Other than me having a short cycle nothing is wrong with me. DH has a low sperm count but not to low. He was at 11.6 Million, motility and morpology was good, a little above average. Is this also going to keep working against us and prevent pregnancy? My RE has put me on 75ui of Gonal F and 100mg of Clomid. It was really expensive and I'm so worried that if my IUI on the 26th doesn't work then I'm doomed. Thanks for listening.

3 1/2 yrs TTC, 2nd cycle IUI, M/F fertility probs --- BFP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I can barely type at the moment but I just got a call from the doctors office that I am pregnant! We started trying 3 1/2 years ago, had an ectopic 3 years ago and then 1 year ago found out husband became infertile. I have severe endometriosis and have lap surgery every so often to clean me out. my ovaries fill with chocolate cysts and female organs web together. So then began our journey with IUI. Our first IUI my DH Sperm count was low and very very thick. Our second it was fast and a lot. We also did 2 cycles and babydanced between cycles!

This time I felt completely different.. last month the progesterone gave me all kind of crazy symptoms...this time not much but at 6dpo I my bbs were tighter / fuller. I started get really bad heartburn for the last 3 days (I am 12dpo today) So this is all very early but my numbers are 51hcg and 35 progesterone. They said this all sounds good..what do you all think???? My DH was watering the yard and I ran out bawling! I just couldn't believe it...after all these years. I am just shaking!! I know this is all early but we conceived!! YEA i haven't had this in 3 years!!!!

So don't give up hope for all you ttc!!! You all have been a lifeline for me!! You give me hope, support and great friendship and each and everyone of you will too be blessed!

I go in Thursday for my second draw to make sure my numbers keep doing what they are supposed to.

Thanks again to all you wonderful ladies (and Dr. Q) for all the support. I will keep you all updated!!! LOVE, SHEL

Do I really need IVF?

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS but am now ovulating on clomid for the last 6 months and still haven’t gotten pregnant. I just started IUI’s with clomid again since after doing a semen analysis it was found the sperm were borderline. I just read that using Metformin may help me get pregnant with PCOS, why hasn’t my Ob checked for this?
