What are the "roles" of a RE?

I just read Dr. Q's wonderful explanation of the roles of the ovaries when it comes to bone strength.

Dr Q, you mentioned that RE's are more versed in handling issues of hormones & menopause. That got me thinking.

Besides infertility, what other reasons might someone see a RE?

I ask for a couple reasons.... myself: high prolactin and borderline low T4... is that something that should be treated by a general endo or is left better to a RE?

my mother: total hysterectomy 20 years ago. Has been on HRT (patches) during this time and wants to stop them (I think she's nuts, personally). She also has thyroid issues, and a host of other problems. Would she be better served seeing a RE for HER issues too?
