low HCG after transfer

We had IVF 2 years ago that resulted in a healthy single pregnancy. The doc put two 5 day embryos back in. We had one embryo that was left so we stored it in a cryobank. I just had that embryo thawed and it looked great and it was a 6 day (advanced blastocyte) on March 9, 2010. I just had my Beta HCG drawn and it was only 18 on March 19, 2010. I go for a redraw Monday the 22nd. I also took a HPT and it showed positive so I took a couple more and the line looks lighter. I probably shouldn't have done that but was wondering if anyone has had a low number but ended up with a good pregnancy. I have had so many cramps that I can't tell anymore what my body is doing and I just feel horrible all over from taking all the progesterone and shots, etc.

First IVF cycle

I am doing my first IVF cycle now. We have 8 embryos and will be doing a transfer on day 5. How many cells should they have on a day 5 transfer? Is there a chance that some won't make it to day 5 for transfer and freezing? And is a day 3 or day 5 transfer better?

I am on Endometrim, progesterone, vaginal tablets 3 times a day. I am really bloated in my abdomen. I look 4 months pregnant...is this normal? And I have a lot of pain in my abdomen. Especially when I eat food. I'm not sure how long I have to take this but I'm going to have to buy new clothes. Hopefully I get a BFP and I can start buying maternity clothes anyway :)

Baby Dust to all you women TTC!!!!

Do all embryos survive inbetween aspiration and transfer?

I am currently doing my first IVF cycle and will be doing a 5 day transfer this friday. My doctor retrieved 22 eggs, 16 were mature and 8 were fertilized. Our embryos are now on day 3. What are the chances of us losing an embryo? All 8 are growing normally but I remember someone mentioning that not all will survive to day 5. Thanks!

1st time IVF and hopefully the last

About me, I am 36 and Dh is 36. We have a 4 year old son which took us 7 months to conceive naturally. After he turned 1 we started to try for baby #2. It has now been 3 years! After about 2 years of trying I decided it was time to look into some fertility medication.

In October 2008 I took Clomid day 3-7 and 2mg of estradiol day 8-12. BFN

In November 2008 Did IUI and I took 50mg Clomid day 3-7 and 2mg of estradiol day 8-12. BFN

In December 2008 Did IUI and I took 100mg Clomid day 3-7 and 2mg of estradiol day 8-12. BFN

In January 2009 Did IUI and I took 100mg Clomid day 3-7 and 2mg of estradiol day 8-12. BFN

February, March, April, May 2009 No Meds, tried natural and each month BFN

So Now I am starting my 1st and hopefully ONLY round of IVF

I would love to share this experience with whoever would like to join me. I would also love to hear your IVF stories as well as be here to support one another.

BabyDust To All!!!!!!! :-)

April IVF'ers UNITE

Hey Ladies... where are all the April IVF cycle buddies?? I had my transfer yesterday of 2 perfect 8 cells (one already began to compact) and a 6 cell. Couldn't have gone better. This time my UL is 10.4, but I am adding estrace to be sure. This time I also did assisted hatching.

On the embryo pic the RE gave us, one of the embys looks totally fragmented, but I was told that is the compacting, and there was little to no fragmentation.. GRADE A. So I know I can make the eggs, DH can fertilize them, and we grow perfect embys.. it's the sticking where we get stuck!

I refuse to POAS this time, gives false hope. Any symptoms, who else is waiting.. it makes the time go faster waiting and wallowing with friends! My beta is May 2!

How Does Embryo Adoption Work?

Wondering if you know anything about it - do you send people somewhere that have left-over embryos that are frozen that they want to donate? Are they always donated or would I pay people for them?

Where should i start with this process. Im pretty sure this is the way we will be going - another unsucessful agressive IUI.

The thought of another round of IVF or even just injections makes me freak, cant do it again, eps since we have NO IDEA why this isnt working.

Very frustrating.

ANYhoooooo........ any help would be very much appreciated in this area, its something completely new for me to learn about.

I am in Wisconsin and close to Chicago.

thx!!

When are frozen embryos too old for IVF transfer?

i;ve had a ivf about six month ago with my wife in s. korea and came back to u.s.

unfortunately, it did't suceed. so my wife went back to s. korea last week to do it again with extra frozen semen/egg(combine together) that we had before. is it too old(frozens) to do new ivf or should i go to korea my self to start from fresh? if it's okay then for how long?(expiration date)

thank you.....

Kelly's IVF Journey...take two

There they are. All present and all accounted for- Prometrium, Lupron, estrogen, progesterone in oil. All lined up like my own little fertility army. I double check the box to make sure they're all there. Then without warning a tear slides down my cheek. Then another. Soon I'm sobbing so hard I can barely catch my breath. I just want to take that box of medicine and throw it against the wall. I should not be sitting here planning for my 2nd round of IVF. I should be up in the nursery folding little pink dresses and little pink blankets. I should be caressing my growing 29 week pregnant belly- counting down the days. Instead I'm here alone in my kitchen with my box of medications and its so freaking unfair.

Just 10 weeks ago my husband and I were on cloud nine. We practically floated into the doctor's office. After all it was our big day. We were going to find out if our former guest room would soon be painted pink or blue. Instead, the doctor gave us news we never could have seen coming. There on the ultrasound screen our little girl was no longer wiggling, no longer growing, no longer alive. Thirty six hours later I delivered my precious girl, just 7 inches long and a slight 3.2 ounces. I held her in my arms as best as I could and said goodbye to a daughter I never got to know.

So here we are. Starting over. Physically this time should be easier. But emotionally who knows? I find a little comfort in rereading the IVF protocol. The routine is familiar- and that helps in some small way. If this round works as planned, we'll be holding our little miracle before the end of the year. And that's what keeps me going. So here's the plan:

Feb 5th- Start Prometrium

Feb 11th- Start Lupron

Mar 2nd- baseline ultrasound, start estrogen

March 11th- ultrasound

March 16th- ultrasound

March 20th- transfer 2 frozen embryos "frosties"

April 1st- (Yes April Fool's Day)- Beta- it will be BFP!

Please share with me your journey. I'm so glad to have the women of FT for support this time around.

Had my IVF on thurs the 22nd and today I am bloated, to take a deep breath is difficult and when I strech or laugh I feel a pulling in my abdomine.
How accurate is an ovulation predictor test? How long does it take for an embryo to fertilize?

these questions came across my mind and i was just wondering if i could get some answers

1. when we test for ovulation with our urine is it a gurantee that we do ovulate (an egg comes from the ovary) how much percent accurate is our ovulation test.

2. during ovulation they say the egg passes through the fallopian tubes in 24 hours if not fertilized. now if fertilized why do it take 4-6days thereabout to implant does it stay in the tubes and multiply in cells or what?

3. how much percent there is in any given chance healthy couples get preggo?

Blood in the catheter after IVF transfer

Dear Dr,

I had a 2dt of 2 embies both of which are graded A with 4 cells. There is no fragmentation. Of the 9 retrieved only 2 fertilized. So only two were transferred. My question is my RE has difficulty finding the correct location and the transfer was done by clinical touch method. After transfer there is blood stain both in the tip and on part of the length of the catheter. They checked the catheter after transfer and there are no embies retained in it. Does blood on the catheter gives a negative effect? Is day 2 transfer as successful as day 3 or day 5 transfer?

How many embryos to put back during IVF transfer?

Dear Dr,

This is my second IVF/ICSI cycle. I started my stimulation with 187.5 gonal F for the first 4 days and then moved upto 225 gonal F for the next 6 days. My e2 level after 4 days of stimulation is 140 and after 7 days of stimulation is 375 and after 11 days it is 1165. I have decent number of follicles growing well. I will go for egg retrieval tomorrow and will know how many eggs I will get. I am 30 years old. I dont know whether to put in 2 or 3. I am from Deutschland and I hope you know the policy here. If I decide to transfer 2 they will grow only two embryos past the first day. Now what should I decide? Since there is no selection of best embryos what will be my chance of triplets with 3 embryo transfer. Deep within me my heart says that transfer 3. My mind is afraid of triplets and complications? We are gong to do ICSI for hals and IVF for half the eggs retrieved. Please give me some suggestions. I know you cannot say without knowing the entire scenarion but you can give me advise what things should I consider in deciding how many to transfer? (For example number of embryos, fertilization rate etc). Thank you very much.

Why doesn't IVF work sometimes?

Hello doctors,

Generally speaking, I've heard that having mild/moderate male factor is the "best" problem to have when doing IVF, as it is easily dealt with by doing ICSI. Is that true?

When great quality embryos get transferred into a woman with no problems (excellent lining, etc.), -- whose eggs fertilized easily with ICSI -- what are the possible reasons for not getting pregnant? How can this happen if everything seems right on target? Could you please help me understand what factors are at play?

Lastly, when an RE gives a patient a 50% chance of IVF success, what does that REALLY mean? Unlikely to work, or highly likely? I'm asking, because some people get 60 or 70% chance of sucess, which seems extremely high. Given that my RE gives us 50% chance, I need some perspective...

Thanks.

Success pregnancy rates with Frozen Embryo Transfer

I have 3 embryos left over from a failed IVF in Sept.

I am 32 yrs old and we did IVF +ICSI

I am certain I have one 5 day blastocyst frozen- we choose at the last minute not to put that one in when I did my 5 day transfer- not sure of the other 2.

I was diagnosed with Viral Meningitis 2 days BEFORE my transfer in Sept- was give IV antibiotics.. and its been 2 months since then-

I am gathering information on FET. So here are my questions

1. Success rates with FET ?

2. I would be going with my natural cycle.. my RE said to call when I get my LH surge- approx what day do they transfer and how do they know if ones body is ready...

3. I feel good after the meningitis from 2 months ago- would you advise me to wait longer ?

4. If all 3 make it thru the thaw do you recommend putting 3 in for better chances of conception

Will an embryo that got stuck on the catherer at transfer hurt my chances of getting pregnant?

Hello docs,

Yesterday, my RE transferred two 8-celled, grade A embryos. However, during the transfer, one of the embryos got stuck on the catheter, so the doc had to reinsert it.

Is that a problem? Will that have any effect on my chances of one or both sticking?

Thanks!

Is it really necessary to have bedrest one day after IVF embryo transfer?

Hello doctors,

I had two 8-celled embryos transferred today, and I've been put on bedrest for 24 hours. I've been lying around the house all day, but I'd like to go back to work tomorrow, if I can. I have a professional desk job, so it's not as if my job is physically demanding. Do you think it would be OK for me to return to work the day after transfer?

Please advise, as I don't want to discourage implantation.

Thanks!
