Estrogen levels--what is normal & how important is it?

I had my CD10 scan yesterday. I took Femara 5mg on CD3-CD7, and Gonal-F 37.5 IU starting on CD7, and this will be my 2nd IUI. I have 2-3 follicles that are still maturing (13mm, 11mm, 9mm). My E2 was 86. This is my 3rd cycle w/ injections, and no one has ever mentioned my E2 level until now.

My RE said that E2 level actually better this time than ever, and that even when I had 5 mature follicles (last cycle), my E2 level was only in the 80 range. Because of this, she suspects that I had lower quality eggs in the previous cycle (which ended w/ a chemical preg).

My Gonal-F dose was lowered from 75 to 37.5 this cycle, and during the u/s my RE said thought that this was a mediocre cycle (w/ just 2 follicles), and that I should go back to the higher dose of Gonal-F. But, after she got my E2, she changed her tune and said that this is the best cycle I’ve ever had, and that I should stick w/ the 37.5 dose (even though it’s slow going).

Is Estrogen that important to a successful cycle? What is a ‘normal’ E2 level? Could this be part of my infertility problem?

Low e2 level after 5 days of stimulation

I had an US today at cd7. I started gonal F 112.5iu on cd 2. Today my RE counted 5 follicles in each ovary. There are 4 follicles like 14,12,11,13mm and the others are smaller than this. The least is 4mm. He said he is satisfied with the response and after my e2 testing he said he will most likely increase my dosage to 150iu. What do you think about my response to gonal F. Does it seem to be OK? waiting to hear your response.Dr Q got my e2 level-it is only 103pg after 5 days of stimulation with gonal F. Is it bad? From today I will be taking 150IU of gonal F till sunday and go for US on monday morning. Do you think my level will rise?

2nd round of injectables

I have recently changed RE's and am currently doing my 2nd round of injectables to be followed with an IUI. I started clomid CD1-5 & on CD5 started 150 of follistim (overlap). I am to have blood work and an U/S on Tuesday. My first round back in April was clomid 150mg CD3-7 & on CD8 I started 150 of follistim with a micro dose of ovridel for 5 days. What was the purpose of the micro ovridel that was used during my first round? Does this injectable increase your chances of pregancy? I also have a problem with low estrogen--will starting the meds earlier in my cycle increase my E2 levels or should I ask for supplementation. In April I had a follicle 23, 18 & 15 and an E2 of less than 200. This will be my 3rd attempt at IUI---I was wondering how common and if a good practice to do back to back IUI's--1 using my DH sperm and then a sperm donor. My DH has some morphology issues.
