What kind of Cysts Do Birth Control Pills Fix?

I am taking birth control for 6 months as per my RE...I am trying to figure out why? She says to shrink the cysts...but as far as I've read bcp's just mask PCOS not fix it...

If you have two small cysts on each ovary can that stop you from getting pregnant?

I use the clear blue fertility monitor it says i ovulate just not sure if the cysts are not letting the eggs drop. I've been ttc for 9 months now!!

ovarian cysts

I am 19 years old, I have been dealing with ovarian cysts since I was 16 years old. I have had numerous ultrasounds and sonograms and they all continuously confirm one thing- that i have ovarian cysts. I have been on every type of birth control with horrible effects from each one. For two months now, I have been dealing with 8/10 pain in my lower abdomen and I have been bleeding for 9 straight days now. I am on tri-cyclen and my period is not suppose to even begin until two days from now. I am constantly taking pain killers, I can't be active or i'll rupture them. Got any idea what I should do?

Ovarian cysts on Clomid

Hello ladies, I have been in hospital 4 past 3 days. I went in as I had extreme pain in ovaries and pelvis which radiated 2 my right shoulder. It was agony. Docs thought I had appendicitus but after having an u/s there was alot of free fluid on both sides of my pelvis they believe I had cysts that ruptured not sure if it was fluid or a hemorrhagic cyst which would contain blood. Thought I would need an operation but pain has eased a bit. I might still need an operation it pain comes back. Cant believe 50mg of Clomid done this to me, but ladies it is very rare for this to happen though :). I guess I am just unlucky. Has anyone else had this happen to them??

Thanks Ladies :)

TTC after Laparoscopy...

Well I had my Lap, D&C & Hysterscopy done a couple days ago. I'm just at home recovering. The gas in my shoulders is aweful & it's difficult for me to breathe. The procedure took 1.5 hours.

So I decided to do the Lap because I had previous pelvic surgeries & thought there may be scar tissue & adhesions preventing me from getting pregnant even though all other tests showed healthy. Well I was right...there was a mess of adhesions & scar tissue. My doctor just kept saying there is a lot of "pathology" which I took as "damage". There was no way that the anatomical position of my female organs could have aided a pregnancy. He said my ovaries were stuck to the back of my uterus & I had a couple small cysts that were removed as well. He also drilled a couple holes in my ovaries to encourage ovulation.

He did the dye test to see if my tubes are open & the dye went through my right tube but he is not convinced that my left tube is open for sure. He basically said my option at this point is IVF since these adhesions will reoccur in 2-3 months.

I have a follow up appointment with him in 2 weeks. He will show me pictures of my surgery & we will discuss my options. Since it will probably take a month or two to get in for IVF, I will maybe try clomid & BD or IUI.

I am saddened at the prognosis, but at least I am no longer in the "unexplained" category. I can move on to IVF but a part of me is still holding out for a natural conception.

I will post more afer my follow up appt.

Ovarian Cysts with Paragard IUD

I got my Paragard IUD May of this year and since September I have started getting Ovarian cysts. Currently I have 3 and 1 that has already ruptured. All the doctors do is give me pain meds and tell me that I have to wait them out? What should I do? Could my IUD be the cause? Should I have it removed? Thank you in advance.

ovarian cyst

Dr. Q,

Sorry for so many questions. Everyone tells me I ask way too many. But, here goes. Because I had a simple cyst while on birth control pills, is this an indication that I should resume ovulation normally when I stop the pills?

Ovarian Cysts

I'm 37 and have a history of ovarian cysts on and off since age 12. I have a 14yr old DD who I conceived without difficulty after serval months of trying. I'm remarried and have been ttc for 2+ yrs. Just started seeing an RE. Have had problems w/cysts again the last several months. Just got the results of my 9/22 u/s and would like help understanding what this means to me and my fertility and what next steps might be. Also, I'm waiting for AF to arrive so I can get my baseline blood work done with the RE and start the clomid challenge but I've heard clomid is BAD for people with cysts because it can make them worse.

I had both a pelvic and transvaginal u/s, results say:

Uterus measures 8.4 x 4.5 x 5.7 cm in longitudinal, AP and transverse dimensions. The endometrial stripe measures 6mm. No intrauterine masses or fluid collections identified. (ARE THESE MEASUREMENTS "NORMAL"?)

There is no free fluid within the pelvis. The left ovary measures 2.7 x 3.0 x 3.2 cm and contains a simple cyst measuring 2.3 x 2.0 x 2.2 cm. (NOTE: Last time there was NO CYST ON MY LEFT OVARY :-( The right ovary measures 4.8 x 4.2 x 4.0 cm (IS IT NORMAL TO HAVE ONE OVARY LARGER THEN THE OTHER OR IS IT BECUASE OF THE CYSTS?) and contains a simple cyst measuring 3.5 x 4.2 x 2.6 cm. There is a hypoechoic mass measuring 2.4 x 1.4 x 2.3 cm probably a hemorrhagic cyst.

PREVIOUSLY there was a simple cyst measuring 2.1 x 3.0 x 2.1 cm and a hypoechoic mass measuring 1.9 x 1.9 x 1.9 cm suggestive of a hemmorhagic cyst on the right ovary.

Any previous experience or suggestiosn of what to ask my GYN or RE would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so very much!

Femara and ovarian cysts

At my midcycle ultrasound yesterday I had a cyst on my ovary that was 42mm. I also had a follicle that measured 16mm on my right side. Can I still get pregnant with a cyst? What are the chances I will need surgery? My Dr. also mentioned the possibility of birth control pills if it doesn't go away on its own...since we've been TTC for 15 months birthcontrol is not something I really would like to do...any suggestions?

Dr Worried advice please

Hi - thanks for taking time to read. I am currently TTC - but this cycle on Day 12 I started to feel period type pains (low abdominal across old c-section scar with lower back pain). The pain is mild say a 3 out of 10 but there in spells on and off throughout the day. I had thought it was ovulation pain but its continued and its now day 21. I am starting to wonder what it is? It really is period type pain, no bleeding, no temp, feel fine. Pain is intermitent and not related to bowels. What do you think? thanks in advance

Paragard IUD Complications and Cysts

Your Open QuestionShow me another »

Is it normal for women to have ovarian cysts or severe pain resulting from Paragard IUD insertion?

I had the IUD, Paragard, inserted in April 08 and have had nothing but issues. The first 3 months I had ovarian cysts form and the 1st month the cyst actually ruptured and that was extremely painful for over a week. My doctor checked the IUD and said it is still in place so that isn't the problem.

I have had extreme pain in my side(s) and pelvic area every month since insertion. I stopped going to my doctor asking about the cysts because even though he confirmed them with a sonogram, he would only give me mild pain killers and send me home, citing it as bad luck and not as a result of the IUD but I have nbever had complications with cysts or pain until the IUD. I haven't been able to work out- especially weight lifting because it causes a horrible tearing pain across my lower abdomen and stabbing pains in my sides.

I am not referring to heavier periods or horrible cramping, although I have that too. My periods have been getting lighter and menstrual cramps a bit better but I am referring to pain when I am not on my period.

I want to have the IUD removed, as I think it is the problem. I am hoping this will cause all the symptoms to go away. Do you have any advice for me?

adrenal and liver cysts

It was suggested I ask on this website my question even though I am not trying to get pregnant, 3 weeks ago I had pre-op blood work done and it showed my AST and ALT were about 8-9 times their normal limit, so I had a CT with contrast and more blood work. The AST and ALT were with in 3 points of being normal. How in 3 weeks can the liver do this? The CT showed a 3 mm low attenuation lesion on the left lobe of the liver near the dome likely representing a small cyst and a 4 mm low attenuation lesion noted in the superior left adrenal glad which is nonspecific and could represent a tiny adenoma and a 4.2 mm right ovarian cyst ( I have PCOS). My doc is out of town and doesn't seem to have time to talk about it all with me. I am not want anyone to diagnose me just do I need to look further into all these cysts? Could this be cancer? Are they too small to even worry about? I have UCTD.

Also Dr. Vic or Dr.Q, By having a functional cyst while on birth control pills is this a good indicator that I will resume ovulating quickly after I stop the Pill?
