What can an RE do about recurrent Miscarriages?

I have my frist RE appt on Monday to discuss our multiple miscarriages. I know that an RE can do thinks like get people to ovulate using meds, etc. But what can an RE do about miscarriages?? Anything?? Is there a medication that they can prescribe to help with miscarriages? I guess I am just not too hopeful that a Dr. can do anything for miscarriages. What does an RE do when dealing with multiple miscarriages? It is harder to fix the problem of miscarriages than it is to fix someone who isn't getting pregnant?

Recurrent Miscarriage Testing

I am going in for my first appt to an RE on Monday. What can I expect?? Will it be a long appt? Will they do any testing at my first appt? Or will they just talk to me at my first one??

What kind of testing will they do?? Will I have to have a pap and all that? or will they they go by what my OBGYN sent them? Any advice would be great. I am a little nervous.

(I had 2 m/c in 2-3 months time and the Dr. said it was time to go to an RE).

Saline Ultrasound

Dr. Q,

I went to my RE on Tuesday and he did a saline ultrasound. However it took him 3 tries to get the catheter in. And then when he did, it was like we either heard or I felt a pop. He was concerned at first that I possibly had some type of blockage. But when proceeded to do the ultrasound he didn't see anything wrong. He said everthing looks good, fine and that I have nothing stopping me. Oh and my biggest fear was possibly having PCOS. He confirmed that I don't have that. :)

So my question is... How common is it to not be able to get the catheter in your cervix? What could have been that pop noise or feeling? The doctor asked me if I felt or heard that and I said yes.

Thanks Dr. Q.

Updating my journey...

+OPK on the 9thof May, Midwife appt 13th of May, Spotting 15th-17th of May, Accupunture 20th, 22nd, 27th & 29th of May, still no AF so I had an appt with my PCP today. She wrote me the script I need to get the Beta HCG done at the lab tomorrow. That should tell me if I'm pregnant or not. Probably not, as per multiple negative HPTs. She says she wouldn't recommend a SA for DH or HSG or any further testing for me until after we've been trying for one year. She didn't give me any other bloodwork in addition to that which I'd had done for a standard work physical in Jan/Feb.

DH has kindly requested that I stop obsessing over this on the internet and in general so this is me ceasing to obsess. I'm updating my journey, getting my beta tomorrow, and then I'm going with the flow until whenever...

Good luck ladies (and Dr Q) and thank you for all of your support and patience and for sharing your journeys with me. I'll be back at some point I'm sure <3<3<3

RE appt today..RESULTS

Well I am home from my RE appt and I just wanted to give everyone an update on what happened...And I know Lori you are interested also...and please let me know about yours tomorrow too...well her goes...When we first arrived we went in to talk with the DR and he asked us questions about our personal history and how many sex partners and stds..family history of and conditions you know just obtaining a history on us...secondly we discussed what happens in a PCOS cycle and how the hormones are out of wack because of the insulin production...and he gave me a BBT kit so that i can start charting my BBT when my cycle comes back on...since it is questionable if i ovulated we did a progesterone to see where i was...we also did a complete gyn exam and an ultrasound...he showed me my ovaries and what did we see??? the typical polysystic ovary appearance...i had about 10 small cyst growing on one ovary and about 7 on the other....but depending on what my pregesterone looks like tomorrow is what we will do...here is the plan

1 if progesterone levels indicate ovualtion the wait for af

if not then proceed with provera

2 then i will call 1st day of cycle to schedule a day 3 endocrine work up

3 ovulation stimulation with femara if femara does not work then we will move on to injectables or a combo

4 hsg

5 if determine ovulation then do a post coital exam

6 luteal phase evaluation

this is what he said as a long term plan

1 ovulation stimulation

a. weight control

b.femara

c.injections

d.combo femara injection

2 luteal phase support

a.progesterone

b.hcg

3 if hsg abnormal then consider surgery

4 if post coital abnormal consider inseminations

5 ivf

6 adoption

7 nothing

he said that he seriously doubts that i will ge to 3 5 6 7 of the longterm plan. he said because of my age and weight...now down to 146 pounds...whoo hoo....and how good my ovaries and tube look from the ultrasound...he also said that with my fiances sperm my ovaries and my age and just all our factors that he is sure that i would get preggo with ivf.....but we will wait that out until the end...but overall if was very informative and i am just happy that he wrote out a plan for me and i know what to expect at each step of the process...i hope that this helped you lori and i am looking forward to hearing about your appt tomorrow...take care all...lots of baby dust and good luck-Summer

Update...

I went to the dr this morning and I get to find out what the baby is on tuesday (jan 8)!!!

I am measuring big.. my uterus measures at 20 weeks and the baby has measured about a week big the whole time.. so my doctor said she thinks I'm at least 19 weeks along.

I have only gained a total of 8 lbs the whole pregnancy though. I was afraid I'd gained like 15 and was going to get scolded! But she said I should gain the full 25-35 so.. I've got plenty of leeway to go!!
