Is IVF our only alternative? I'm 38, he's 42.

My Husband and I just got our results for our fertility test. He's in great condition, but has a low sperm count from his last test. Our doctor recommended that he get a second test done.

Everything is good on my side, I'm ovulating and have a very young uterus and ovaries, for 38.

If my Husband's sperm test comes back showing he is still low, is IVF our only alternative. I was hoping that they would recommend IUI.

Anyone over 39 and still trying for 1st child

Did unsuccesful IUI 6 times starting 3 years ago. Doctors finally realized my DH has a sperm "swim up problem". I'm currently on my 3rd attempt at IVF and go for a pregnancy test next week.

Funny thing is, if my DH and I weren't together we'd probably have a bunch of kids. With lazy sperm and my crusty eggs we have "unexplained infertility".

The path of becoming pergnant

Hello ladies and Doctors,

I've been having many conversations with my doctor about getting pregnant, basically what I have gotten so far is to start testing my ovulation cycle with the OPKs. I would like to know if there's a way to know "medically" of course, to see if your body is ready to bear a child. I have never seriously tried to become pregnant and I'm 29, getting a bit antsy now.

I have been diagnosed with fibroids and small cysts in the past and I get my paps regularly. I'm in good health condition, but I would like to know if I'm able to have children, if I need to get my tubes' cleaned. I have read so much stuff that is just gets really confusing and my doctor will not support me in my pursue of these answers. Is there some sort of test my doctor can perform? Everytime I ask him he wants to get me on birth control and that really dissapoints me :(

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Clomid and advanced maternal age

I recently turned 44. My husband will be 46 in May. We are ttc our first child. We started trying naturally in March 08. I became pregnant in May 08 but miscarried early at 5 weeks, 5 days. Since that time, we waited 2 months as suggested. Then, began taking preliminary fertility tests. The HSG ruled out blockage; however, I am prone to fibroids. A fibroid was removed in October. The other tests came back ok, including my husband. The FSH test was a 5 but an estrogen (E2) test was not performed along with the test, so I am not sure of the accuracy. Due to the tests and hysteroscopic surgery there were some delays in trying. However, we have tried for the last 3 months. My doc has given me a poor prognosis based on my age. I am ovulating and having periods about every 28/30 days. The doc said that most would not consider IVF and IUI probably would not make a difference. He agreed to start me on Clomid, beginning with 50 mg. on days 3-7. We do not have fertility insurance, so this is basically being done on our own. My first question, is there hope with the Clomid for my age? And, when would be the best time/days to start trying for baby once I begin the Clomid?

Thank you for reading and I appreciate your insight.

Are doctors always right when they say you can only conceive via IVF?

When I had my surgery for endometriosis again my dr. said I will never get pregnant unless I do IVF. I can't afford this and also if I find a job they might not cover this. I do ovulate every month, my hormones are usually fine, I did have some spotting and prolactin issues but I have meds for this which I am taking now but I should finish it soon. I have been trying to ttc for three years now. Can my dr. be wrong and I still could get pregnant naturally? I am 36.

Secondary male infertility

My husband and I have had 3 pregnancies together, and have two children - 6 and 4. We decided 18 months ago to try for baby number 3. Our last conception was 4 years ago - and happened unexpectedly with little effort, and under extreme stress. After having no success this time, I was given the female blood tests by my Doctor, and my fertility came back as excellent, - I am 35. Yesterday we took the plunge, and my husband did the Fertell home test, which checks the concentration of a man's motile sperm. It was negative - he is 54.

We are shocked and devastated! I recognise a man's fertility can decline with age, but we are puzzled. Would the decline be so rapid and catastrophic? Given that just 4 years ago (when he was 50) we were conceiving with little effort, is it possible that his age alone has had this huge effect on his fertility? He is more stressed at work as of the last 2-3 yrs, and has been taking diphenhydramine (nytol) every few weeks for insomnia - is it more likely that this could be the cause?

Your thoughts on this would be most appreciated. My husband doesn't smoke or drink (never has), eats extremely healthily, and is of normal weight. He has a good libido, and we have intercourse every few days throughout the month. We realise we now need to have further testing, but for now we would welcome any glimmer of hope (or not) to help us understand this devastating news.

Many thanks.

Getting pregnant after two chemical pregnancies

I'm looking into the IVF route but does anyone have experience with something similar? I'm 40 y/o and did two back to back medicated IUI cycles. I did conceive but could not maintain past the 3 week mark. Does anyone have related information to share? Any feedback would be helpful!

A road less traveled but well worn....

I just turned 40. Wow. The day has come and gone and now, I'm ready for a family. Where was I 10 years ago? Why wasn't I ready then? Why has my maturity lagged so far behind my chronological years? I am anxious, full of questions and some fear. I want it all to happen so bad...all I can do is be patient.

I've had two back to back IUI's, the medicated variety, and both led to chemical pregnancies. It looks like the IVF path is our next option. We're hoping that this will tell us much more about the state of my egg quality, hormone and immunities. Since I seem to be getting to the implantation process, there is something impeding the process, and it could be several factors. It's the great unknown but one we're going to try. We have to use frozen sperm and just really hoping and praying that we can have our little miracle someday soon. It's not the end of the world if it doesn't happen but trying is what this journey is all about.

Is there a possibility i'm just not old enough to get pregnant?

Hi my name is Ashley. I have recently got married to a wonderful man. I am 19 and about to be 20. We have been trying to have a baby for a year now. I take 3 primrose oil pills a day, along with woman's one a day vitamins.I follow my ovulation with calendars, I do all the superstition positions, but still nothing. For about 4 months i have been having irregular periods, until the end of last month when i was on for 13 days!! I have heard rumors that people who are young sometime cant get pregnant because their bodies need to adjust to the idea of intercourse and pregnancy, is this true? I want a baby so bad and i don't understand why im not getting pregnant. Any advice anything im not trying that i need to be?

trying to conceive at 27

My mother says that the reason I didn't get pregnant the first month is because I'm 27. I'm so confused. I read some posts that say My chances are just as good as a 25 year old then I read that my chances have already gone down. By how much? Also do I need to see a doctor?

age and infertility

Someone on here said that at age 27 one's eggs are depleting. If younger people have a 20 to 25% chance of pregnancy each month then what are my chances being as old as I am?

Does a 27 or 28 year old have just as good a chance of conceiving as someone who is 24 or 25?

egg quality and age

I just read something that is disturbing. Wondering if it is true. It said if reproduction happens when a woman is young that her egg quality is frozen and remains good. However if she doesn't reproduce at a young age her egg quality goes down. Is this true, and am I still considered young at 27?
