Atrophic Bleeding - Dr.Q please!

Dr Q,

You very kindly answered my question last night about some irregular bleeding at the end of my period and said it was likely atrophic bleeding. After doing some more research and learning that my lining is probably very thin right now and as you said measures may need to be taken in the next few days to thicken it. I was wanting to ask one or two more quick questions...

One, If the bleeding stops on its own by cycle day 10 could that mean and should I presume that my estrogen levels are finally high enough and my lining is thickening?

And two...my period was on and off for a week cycle before last too. Is there any chance that since I know I ovulated this past cycle that maybe the lining just wasn't thick enough for a fertilized egg to be able to implant which could be why I didn't fall pregnant last cycle? Thanks so much for all of your help!! I truly appreciate it! :)

Endometriosis?

In February of this year I had a miscarriage at 2 1/2 months after which I have had diarrhea everyday since. I have pain during intercourse before a period.

Skipped period in May followed by intense pain on my lower right side and yeast infection.

Early July I finally had my period beginning with 2.5 in long skin like, white, with other small fibrous brown string looking things about 1/2 inch long

In the end of July I again had the strange discharge followed by a missed period until Aug 6th when I had what appeared to be implantation bleeding- light and only one day.

On the 11th of Sept a light pink fleshy clump came out, I didn't really inspect it. 12th Light bleeding Chunks of dark fibrous material, some of which are buoyant, ranging in size from about ¼ inch to an inch

13th Discharge 2 inches long ½ in. across Red/brown, skin like, another 2 inch piece with strands later in day.

As a side note, I have never had a child, I am 21, of normal weight and have been off birth control for about 6 months.

I have been to a fertility doctor who brushed me off. He said it was probably just mucus. I KNOW what mucus looks like and it was not. Please help?

Abnormal blood tests

I was on the birth control for 10 years and got off of it in Februrary. I have not had a normal period since. My doctor gave me 10 days of Prometrium to "jump start me" but it did not work. Then, she gave me 2 weeks worth of Pemarin (estrogen pills) and told me to do the prometrium again right after the premarin pills. This worked and produced a very light period. That was at the end of June and I still haven't had a period since. My doctor decided to test my hormone levels and the results are disturbing!

LH= <0.3

FSH= 2.8

Estradiol= 9

Progesterone= 0.6

Prolactin= 3.0

She said that my levels are that of a post menopausal woman. I'm only 27 years old!! I'm scared that this is going to impact my fertility and that I will never be able to have children. Is there anything I can do to help raise these levels? Am I endangering my body by having levels so low? Do you think this is going to cause me to be infertile? I'm 27 years old, 5'3 and 107 lbs. Before I was on birth control, I was 17 years old and weighed about 125 to 130 lbs. Within ten years, I have become more active in fitness (walk about 2 hours a day, or run about an hour). I don't eat a lot though. I eat about 950 calories to 1400 calories per day. It varies. Sometimes I'm busy and don't think to eat much. Could this be causing my low levels? Perhaps my body thinks I'm anorexic or something? (I'm not, but my calorie levels sure are low since I've been watching them now). I've been trying to keep track. Maybe my weight and calorie levels are too low? Can you tell me more about this and tell me what you think I should do? I am scared that I'll never be able to have a child! I just want to make this better.

36w6d Pregnant Question!!

Hi Dr.Q and Ladies,

I have a question for all you. It's gonna be a long one so I apologize!

Anyways, back when I was 11 weeks pregnant I had a pap smear done at my 1st prenatal appointment and the result came back high grade abnormal. My doctor then scheduled me for a coposcopy. She didnt biopsy anything she just did a vinegar wash on my cervix to look at the cells. Which at that time she said were still abnormal. I was about 17 weeks pregnant at this coposcopy.

She then said not to worry and she would do a follow up pap smear in August. She said sometimes pregnancy can cause abnornmal cells on the cervix and it could possibbly be all the hormones making the cells come up abnormal.

So I just had another pap smear done in Augst at 33 weeks pregnant. I got the resukts back last week and they came back high grade abnormal again. The nurse called me and said they need to do another coposcopy. So I have another coposcopy scheduled for 1:30 today. I ended up going to the doctor yesterday because of increased swelling in my feet and ankles and I asked why I need another coposcopy and if it's safe this far along in pregnancy (I am 36w6d today). She said if the does the coposcopy and the cells are still abnormal they will have to induce labor this week. Does this sound like a normal procedure for someone who has high grade abnormal cells? I completely trust my doctor but I had not heard of being induced until just yesterday. Also, will my baby be ok being delivered between 37-38 weeks? I'm worried a little about his lung development. Ohh and what does high grade abnormal cells mean? Does this mean it's cancer or very close to becoming cancer? My doctor didnt seem at all concerned with the baby but she did seem concerned about the abnormal cells. Thanks so much for your help and any advice or information will be so helpful!

Ohh also, when I went to the dr. last week I was 1cm dialated and 70% effaced. Dont know if this might speed up the labor process since I am a little dialated and effaced.

abnormal paps?

OK, so I posted a question to the dr.s asking about information on Abnormal paps and atypical cells. However, after reading more of you gals' posts, I have a new question, anyone have a abnormal pap, go in have colposcopy done, have the cells removed, then had abnormal paps after that as well. Even after the dr. thought he had gotten all the abnormal pre cancerous cells? I had cells removed in Febraury/March and then when I had another pap in July came back abnormal again, so I go in for another colposcopy again. Any experience with this?

Currently on Cd 23 and i have been spotting since AF

Hi, My name is Andrea. I have been diagnosed with PCOS and i have been on Metformin 1700mg a day for about 4 months now. I have done 5 rounds of clomid and O'd always on it. This past cycle we did not do the clomid and i have spotted everyday after my Period. Its only a brown CM, but sometimes its pink when i wipe. I took a HPT to rule that out and its negative. What could be causing the abnormal bleeding??.I mean everyday seems odd to me. Is it the metformin trying to regulate me??.....thanks in advance - Andrea

SA results

Hi,

My dh received his SA results today.

Everything was in the 'normal' range except the morphology which was '94% abnormal forms'. The doctor advised him that theres no need for concern yet and to re-take the test in a couple of weeks, if the results are the same then we will be refered to a specialist. I've been reading some info about this and it appears there is no proven cure to help sperm morphology.

This makes me very sad and i wanted to ask what are chances are of us conceiving naturally?

Many thanks.

My husbands semen analysis came back abnormal

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help as I'm pretty discouraged right now. My husband and I have two boys. We conceived on our own. My first was a surprise, unplanned. The second was after a year of trying, went to a fertility clinic they said my husband had abnormal analysis and anti-bodies. Said we would need ICSI and put me on fertility drugs for this procedure, was cancelled as I had a risk to the hyperstimulation of ovaries (too many follicles?) and a month later we found out we were pregnant on our own. So, here we are wanting to conceive our third child in hopes of a girl (we have two boys) and had an analysis done for husband with obgyn and they came back said very abnormal sample. Where do we go from here? So confused and we don't have the money for high cost procedures and high end fertility drugs. My boys are 5 years apart. We wanted to have our third closer in age to our second. Any advice would be helpful. thank you

High Estrogen??

Hi Dr. Q...well i have decided to go ahead with IVF! My insurance does not cover it which is unfortunate...so I am really hope I don't have to do more than one cycle!

Well since my periods are regular and I ovulate on my own, my RE decided I do not need to suppress my ovaries for too long; so i was told i would need to take bcp's only for two weeks as I live in a small town and we have just one RE, so he has to schedule it instead of me having my period on my own. I had my baseline appt yesterday and my ultrasound looked great..but apparently my estrogen level is high! I stop my bcp on the 1st and start with Lupron on Monday.

I have been asked to come in for another blood test on Monday...since i have never used Follistm my RE has calculated a very small dose of 150 considering my weight and height (both of which are small-5ft and 96lbs)

I am extremely stressed out and am wondering if i should still go ahead with this cycle of IVF (as i really cannot afford a failed cycle..i should atleast have some frozen embryos for next time)! The next cycle does not start until Nov (like i said we have just one RE) but I didn't want to wait that long!

We had never carried out a morphology study of my partners sperm so all this while we thought its just a motility problem; but we just found out that 71% of his sperm heads are abnormal..I would think that is a large number but would like you to let me know if we still have a chance..(we are doing ICSI)

If the information matters; i would also like to mention that i started my bcps in the Luteal phase of my cycle and the ultrasound showed a follicle sized 10 or 13..i dont quite rmber..

please advise me doctor as I really need your help in making a decision..

When is the most optimal day to conceive?

My ovulation test result is positive today at 3pm.

I heard the advice of trying 2 days before ovulation and on the day of ovulation and so on. We've been trying for a year without success. My husband's sperm test result says only 28% was normal. So I wanted to try to conceive on the most optimal day. When do you think is the best time? Should I wait 24 hours for ovulation to happen?

abnormal bleeding

I am having a problem with my period, and I was wondering what might be the cause. I am 43 years old. My periods were regular up until January this year; then, they changed, but only the dates, which came earlier. By April, they had gone from arriving around the 18th of the month to arriving around the 1st or 2nd of the month. However, that was the only change. However, in May, other things changed as well. It did arrive on the 1st and appeared normal initially. Normal for me is light the first day, heavy dark flow for 2-3 days, then tapering off. In general, my period only lasts about 5-7 days total, and I only cramp the first couple of days. This time, I never bled heavily at all. In fact, some days, other than some light pinkish red on the tissue when I wiped, flow was almost non-existent. However, it was continuous fo 9 days, then appeared to finally stop. However, today, the tissue is again pinkish red. I also only had cramping that first day and it was mild. Other than the change in flow, color, and duration, I am experiencing no other problems, such as mild or intense pain, etc. What could be causing this? By the way, 13 years ago I had an ectopic pregnancy and lost a fallopian tube as a result. I recently took a pregnancy test as well, and it came back negative.

abnormal bleeding

I am 51 years old, have given birth to three children and have been told in recent years I have fibroid tumors. I still get my period. However, as of lately I have skipped a month or two. I have been experiencing bleeding in between periods and when I do get my period, it is heavier and longer than usual. They used to only last 4 days. Now I have been bleeding for 7 days. Prior to getting my period a little over a week ago, I had it just over two weeks ago. Are these symptoms of menopause or having to do with fibroid tumors. I had an ultrasound last year and the tumors were not getting bigger.

AFP screening

Dr. Q,

What is your experiance with AFP blood test screening. If you get back a positive result, are they usually inacurate due to the sensativity of the test? I just got back my results and it was slightly abnormal. I am going for an ultrasound with a specialist for further testing. Is this something I should be worried about? Thanks

Dr.Q... Can I have your opinion?

Hi Dr.Q,

I am 15w4d pregnant and I had my 2nd prenatal appointment on Friday. Everything went well. All my bloodwork and testing came back great. The heartrate was 153 bpm which the doctor said was great! There was only a few things that I have questions on...

1. My doctor said in my urine sample from my last prenatal appointment they found a UTI... which were traces of strep in my urine. She said it's not a big deal but at 36 weeks instead of giving me a strep test they will just start me on antibiotics because they want it gone by the time of delivery and they will just assume I have strep since they found it so early on in my pregnancy. What do you think... is this normal in patients and is it a big deal?

2. My pap smear from a month ago also came back slightly abnormal. Which I have had abnormal pap smears in the past but I always had them redone and they would come back fine. So I have to go in 2 weeks to have some Coposky (dont even know if this is the name!) to make sure there are no cancer cells?? This is a test where they go inside with a microscope or light to check to see if there are any cancerous cells. Is this dangerous to myself or my baby? My doctor said not to worry at all and it could just have come up abnormal because my immune system down since becoming pregnant. What do you think? Is this also normal? And what do you suggest? Should I be worried? Also when I had this pap smear done a month ago they found a yeast infection. Would a yeast infection cause a pap smear to be abnormal? Thanks so much for your help. I am of course a little worried and just want to make sure these things happen in pregnancy or if these things are dangerous in pregnany. Thanks so much in advance! I appreciate your help!
