Would any of you be willing to be a surrogate for a family member or close friend, if you were able?

A woman at my husband's office was saying that she couldn't believe one of her relatives had gotten a sister to be a surrogate for her. All the women in the office started discussing why they could NEVER be a surrogate.

Now, I'm not a huge fan of thing being pregnant thing. Of course, its essential to having the end result, that miraculous little baby it produces.. :o) But I'd do it in a heartbeat for any of my relatives and/or close friends.....

For instance, my husbands sister has been trying for 12 years. She ovulates and everything.. just can't get things to stick. I'd do it in a second if she wanted me to...

The women at my husbands office basically told me i was insane. I'm just wondering.. am i insane.. or are there others who would?

I would, I would feel a special bond with the child though, I would only do it if I knew I could be a part of the child's life though. I couldn't do all that and then just say here ya go....I mean it would be thier baby, but no matter when your pregnant, you already have a bond with that baby. I would have to see that child grow-up, and it would give me such a wonderful feeling...doing that for someone!

I definitely would, but it seems that everyone else around me has no problem getting pregnant. I'd be the one who would need a surrogate. If things were different I would volunteer in a heartbeat tho.

I agree with 007 mum. It seems that everyone around me gets preggo on their first try. I would however be a surrogate if it meant making a family members dream come true. What a special gift to give someone!

I'm not so sure that I could do it. I think that I would find it heart breaking to hand over a baby after carrying it for 9 months. I would love to be able to give someone there dream, but really, I just dont think I could.

i hope that i could do that for someone i love. My body doesnt like being preggo, my pregnancies are hard and i know that it would be very hard for me to detatch from the baby and hard to give it away even knowing that it wasnt mine from the start. But i would LOVE to be able to give someone a child that they are unable to have on thier own ......

It would be hard but well worth it! Now esp since i know how hard it is to get preggo, i was sooo fortunate to get pregnant with my kids!

Meghan you're not insane at all. As a matter of fact, years ago my sister was ttc for two years with no luck. I had just gotten pregnant with my second child and she was devastated (she's older than me). So we talked and I offered to be a surrogate for her and her hubby. They talked about it and agreed that would be awesome. My hubby at the time thought it was a great idea too. I would be artificially inseminated with my brother in laws sperm and carry their baby as soon as I was able to after I delivered my baby. In the mean time I told them to keep trying since the stress of it all should be gone now that they know they'll def have a baby, if not on their own, then by me. Well low and behold, they got pregnant two months after me on their own. So the stress proved to be what was holding them back. I also was offered money once from a friend of a friend and was going to do it since at the time I was going through my divorce and the cash was gonna be a huge help, but my 2 yr old son had just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and my time was taken up trying to learn how to handle it all with him so I had to say no. I felt bad too.

Yes I would do it in a heart beat. I once worked with this lady and we became very close.... She had lost all three of her children in a house fire when they were little. Her and her husband wanted to have a baby, but she was not able. she asked me if I would be a sarrogate and I told her Yes..... Well then we found out she had breast cancer and she did not want to go through with it... But any ways if I could help some one like that i would in a heart beat.......... I loved being pregnant TOO so I guessed that helped out too.
