Why am I being prescribed Provera with clomid?
My doctor is perscribing me provera with clomid. I'm not sure why, and I'm waiting for a call back from my doctor. Isn't Provera a BC shot??? Or am I thinking of something else. And doesn't Provera bring on AF, why do I want this when I'm just starting one. I'm confused. Anyone, please help...anything you can give would be helpful.

You asked : "why do I want this when I'm just starting one".
So, does this mean you have a natural period and still your Dr wants you to take provera? If so, call her and tell her you started your period. She may most likely tell you to not take Provera if you already started ur period. Also ask her if she wants you to take Progesterone after confirmed ovulation.

Thank you for the info, that helped. And I apologize if I wasn't clear. So yes I just started a natural period. They have been regular for a while now, after being on the Metformin. But for whatever reason I am still not ovulating on my own. And yes my doctor mentioned the progesterone as well. I'm going in for day 3 u/s and labwork today, and provided everything is okay I am to start clomid on day 5. I wasn't aware that I would possibly need the HCG injections or the Provera. So I know alot of you ladies have experience these medications so I wanted to know some of the reasoning behind them.
Thanks for your help! It is greatly appreciated. :)

Kristyn...it seems like you are ttc. Usually when one doesn't ovulate Clomid is the first medicine a Dr prescribes. It stimulates your ovaries for ovulation.
As HopeN mentioned provera is given to shed the uterine lining. And once you bleed anytime from the third day to 14th day after finishing the pill you start Clomid as prescribed by your dr.

So I am having regular periods now and have been for about 6 months. So as HopeN mentioned earlier that if people have irregular periods they tend to give you this medication, so since I have been having regular periods, I'm wondering if this is still something I need.
Sorry if I sound clueless ladies, I'm just confused and want to make sure I'm not given medication that I truly don't need.

Hi Kristyn,
If you are having regular periods it means you are ovulating on your own. But its very easy to get confused b/w a breakthru bleed and a real period. So, Im not sure how your Dr Diagnosed anovulation, but if thats the case, clomid will help. Not all take HCG shot with Clomid. Usually once you ovulate (confirmed via + OPK or U/S), then some may, some may not start prometrium until a pregnancy indicates either way.
So, to answer your question if you are regular or not, is your period every 35 days or less? Is it full flow no scanty bleed no spotting u change ur pads or tampons whatever atleast twice? Do u have PMS like sore bbs, nausea and all those? If so you can be reasonably sure you are ovulating. But again, since your Dr may have done tests on you, I think she figured out you actually dont ovulate. You have to ask her that question.
Sometimes even when you are regular if you dont conceive and go to a Dr, they will start you on CLomid and monitor you closeley. Good luck

HopeN, thank you so much for the info. It definitely helped. So I saw my doctor today, I went for an U/S to make sure there aren't any follicles before they start me on clomid. So the u/s was fine they said I'm all clear to start the clomid. So I asked about the regular periods and not ovulating. Since they had me doing the OPK's for a few months after my period was over, but they never gave me a positive reading that I was infact ovulating. So I go in for some lab work tomorrow and then I'm starting the clomid on sunday, so I guess we'll see. I still have some question's to ask my dr, so I'll have all my answers tomorrow HAHA.
Thanks again for all the info....

Depo Provera is a BC shot. I think the difference is its a long lasting shot and so acts as a Birthcontrol. The Provera pills are regularly taken by women to get a period if they havent had one
