When is the best time of the day to test for OPK?

July 21, 2007

I just finished my last pill of Clomid and I have already started to test for OPK. I know that for the home pregnancy test, the best time to test is the first urine in the morning. I thought it is the same with the OPK, but I have just read an article that it is best to test in the mid-day than first thing in the morning. Is this true? If so, what is the explanation for that? Thank you!

I actually usually recommend the second urine sample of the day to be the ideal time to check. The reason for this is that the vast majority (if not all) women start their LH surge right before waking up (between 3-5 am) so that if you check your first urine, if may give you an "equivocal" answer and the problem is that the surge really only lasts 24 hours, and can give you another equivocal result the following morning.

If you check mid day, then you're not going to miss it for all intensive purposes since the LH levels should be high by then.

For a home pregnancy test, you can check any time since once it turns positive, assuming that you don't miscarry, it should remain positive throughout.

Thank you. I will start testing on Mid-day then starting tomorrow.
