Whats the difference?

Between a "missed m/c" and a regular "miscarriage"?

I think that the difference between a "chemical pregnancy" and a "m/c" is starting to bleed a few days after AF was due would be a chemical and having the pregnancy confirmed by u/s and then bleeding would be a m/c but what the heck is a “missed m/c”

Are these just all terms to explain the same things? And I hear the nurse say when I was going to get the Rhogam shot that I needed it for a “missed abortion” YIKES! That is not a word that I like to associate with what happened even tho I know that it just means that my body will abort the baby.

Just curious if anyone knows.....

AND when with a chemical some say that the fertilized egg never implanted but how is it that you get a +HPT? I thought yuou could only get that a few days after implantation??

Missed M/C is when your body thinks there is a pregnancy and continues and doesnt expel the fetus, but the fetus itself stopped growing weeks before.

HCG is produced only after implantation. So, in a chemical, the embryo dies within a few days of implantation :( May be it just doesnt implant properly in some cases of chemical pregnancy.

Oh, i see, so then if the embryo develops a bit and then stops and your body doesnt notice then its a missed m/c but if you just get a sac but never a fetal pole then its a blighted ovum???

What about in my case when i have a huge cyst that is giving off hormones that make my body think its still preggo and didnt m/c on its own.... is that a missed m/c then?

Blighted Ovum can also be a missed miscarriage. When ones body doesnt recognize there is a blighted ovum, it sometimes causes spontaneous M/C and sometimes one can go on with a blighted ovum and find that out a few weeks later.

I think ur case is a missed M/C :( Sorry chels ((hugs)) The corpus luteum (cyst) that produces progesterone, does so by getting a feedback signal from the HCG. So, in a Missed M/C, the body doesnt recognize it and continues as if there is a pregnancy and so the cyst continues to produce the preggo harmone
