What to pack for baby??

August 27, 2008

Hi Girls!

I'm trying to get a hospital bag together and I know what I need to bring for myself and hubby but what do I bring for the baby? Here is what I have and please tell me if I need it or not and what else I will definitly need:

1. Going home outfit w/hat, booties, onesie and socks (it's so cute by the way!)

2. 3 receiving blankets (so my hubby can bring them home for our dog to sniff so he knows the baby's smell)

3. wipes

4. diapers

5. 2 extra hats

Do I need burp cloths, bottles, nipples, pacifiers, mittens, extra onesies? Am I missing anything? Ohh I dont need sleepers for him do I? Also, what about a boppy? I am not nursing so do you think I will need to bring it? Thanks girls! Ohh I will also be bringing his diaper bag with all that stuff too... do I need that? We live about 10 minutes from the hospital. Thanks!

Keller, I would take normal diaper bag items..but be sure to use the ones in the crib at the hospital..the wipes and diapers..and take any left overs with you. They will provide you with premixed formula bottles if you are not bf. Bobby is a good idea for snuggling. Otherwise..just your car seat and an outfit :)

Boppy I mean..lol

Oh and maybe bring a clipper set for nails..they will not do it for you if baby has long nails..just fyi!

Thanks Kelli! I will put all my crap back then! My husband was looking at me like I was nuts when I was taking out all the blankets, onesies, etc! I think I am gonna bring the boppy for cuddling purposes! And I will definitly bring some nail clippers too and I will take anything extra I can get!

HOnestly honey you don't need to take much. I would say the outfit for coming home and your boppy. I didn't need anything else b/c they provided it. He was swaddled all the time so we didn't need socks and he was just in a long sleeved t (with covers for his hand) that they put on him. BUt it is totally up to you. We took home on of his hospital provided receiving blankets for the dog and the little hat too. I was bfing so we didn't need to worry about anything else. But everyone is different. Take care!

Keller my bag is packed and I have packed my boppy pillow, a take me home outfit, 2 receiving blankets, nail clippers for Mia, 2 onesies. I will use everything else the hospital provides such as diapers and wipes....

Are you packing yourself a bag and Jake a bag Maria? I am trying to decide if I should just pack the babies stuff with mine. Otherwise I will need 3 bags: Mine, DHs and the babies...what do you think?

August 28, 2008

My advice, pack one BIG bag.. with all the stuff you get while you are there you are going home with 3X the amount you came in with

August 28, 2008

Thanks Caryn! Dh most likely wont be staying over night in the hospital but with family instead so we each need our own bags but I will put the babies stuff with mine!!

August 28, 2008

We did not even pack a bag for my DH! He went home each morning, showered and changed and came back.. just the essentials tooth brush comb , soap..stuff like that! Next time around he also will not be sleeping over.. 1) the bed they provide is really a chair, too uncomfortable.. 2) We have DS and want to keep his bedtime routine consistent

August 28, 2008

See for us the hospital is just over 2 hours away so that isn't really an option otherwise we too would be doing the same!

Hi Keller....is it seriously almost time for you to have your beautiful baby??

My advice, bring a going home outfit for baby and some receiving blankets just incase he is little and needs some extra support in the car seat to make him feel secure... other than that, you dont need a thing for him! They provide formula (premade in unit dose bottles with nipples), diapers, wipes, clothes, blankets, etc...no worries

P.S. My DH stayed overnight with me every night I was there...the hospital I delivered at was great, he got a cot every night (not those awful plastic reclining chairs), even in Labor and delivery!

August 30, 2008

ErinK- what hosp did you deliver at? I know we are really close to each other.. we went to Women and Infants with DS.. and definately they did not provide cot! OMG that chair is so awkward and unfomfortable!

Oh Gosh Liane, I had no idea the hospital was so far away, looks like DH will not be commuting :)

Great post. I need to write this stuff down...haha. I have a check list somewhere that Babies R Us gave me or Similac in the mail or something, so hopefully its all on there :)

Not long SBF or Maria...cant wait :)

Yeah isn't is crazy Caryn! Poor Dh is so worried about not making it to the hospital on time. I plan on staying in the city until the babies can come home with me. I am not leaving them there alone.

August 30, 2008

Thanks so much girls! I think I am just gonna pack one big bag with the baby's diaper bag and thats it. I am also gonna bring 2 extra blankets for the ride home just in case we need them. We dont live far though... about 10 minutes from the hospital. I'm going to Target today to try to get the last few things on my list. Thanks for all your help!

Awww soo exciting sweetie, i think you have a great plan of action :)

September 01, 2008

Liane... 2 hours! Wow. I'm nervous cause my hospital is 45 mins away... that we wont get there on time :) Lol. Good luck! :) Or do you have section planned?

September 01, 2008

Liane..how come you'll have two leave the babies? and 2 hours away..crazy..your in canada too right..where are you? I am in ontario and my hospital is 10 mins away but there are 4 in th city i could got to if really needed as well..are you having a c-section?

September 01, 2008

I live in rural Manitoba and there is really only one big city close to us that will deliver twins and it is 2 hours away (that time is what it takes to leave here and get to the hospital). I wont necessarily have to leave the babies. If they have to stay in the hospital longer than they keep me then I would stay in the city until they are ready to come home.

Hey Caryn...my goodness, I am answering your question so late...Im sorry... I delivered at St. Vincent's and loved it. They were wonderful to me and very accomodating to hubby, I highly recommend them! My OB is from Fallon and her office is literally one door over from L & D, which was nice!
