What is the Difference?

What is the difference between Femara and Clomid? Does one have a higher success rate than the other?

Wannabe, I tried 6 cycles of clomid with no luck - it seemed to thin my lining way too much. I ended up getting pregnant on my first round of femara (ended up as a chemical) and then got pregnant again on my second round and I'm currently 4k3d pregnant - so I highly recommend femara!

From Dr Q's previous responses on the difference

"their mechanism of action is completely different (clomid keeps the brain from noting there's Estrogen around, triggering it to produce more FSH to make eggs vs Femara prevents the conversion of Testosterone to Estrogen...the lower Estrogen is sensed by the brain and triggers more FSH to compensate). Femara may be slightly superior to Clomid for ovulation induction and think will be good to try and we won't know your body's response until you try. I would be checked a little earlier for follicular response by your RE as a suggestion"

i jsut asked the OB about this today. he said that they are basically the same thing except that clomid has been around longer and femera is newer. he said that he thinks that the only one that is FDA approved is clomid.

He also said that the issues that clomid can cause with thin lining or hostile CM come along with the higher doses and they normally dont see those issues until you are taking more than a dose of 150mg.

My OB was way more comfy giving me a script for clomid and said that they had a good sucess rate with it.

I guess it depends on the doc tho.
