What is clomid and how does it help?

I am actually a nurse but can answer your question for you. Clomid is a medication used to augment or induce ovualtion. Usually given to women who are not ovulating on a regular basis & having irregular cycles due to this. The starting dose is 50mg & then can be increased to 100-150mg as needed. It is a good starting point as far as fertility meds go. I took it for 3 cycles & then was switched to Femara, which is similar to Clomid. I am sure your RE will do some initial blood tests & then determine if Clomid is appropriate for your particular situation. Good Luck & let me know if you have any other questions.

hi megan this is wht i dont understand i do ovulate regualy they did that test on me to see if i ovulate and i do and i also get pregnant very easily i have 3 girls from my previous partner im now with a nwe dh of 5 yrs we have lost our babie 3 months ago i was 10 wks babie died at 8 wks no HB.

my re said he would like to put me on clomid but i said why i was sure that it only helped people ovulate but i do i was using opks. i really dont understand why when i can concive natuarlly.

i was also put on babie asprin which didnt help because i lost the babie anyway. i did every thing right took my folic acid babie asprin healthy food everything and look what happend. we have had all the fertiliyt tests done and all come back normal so i carnt understand why things go wrong.

i thought colmid matured your eggs i have had fsh test and that came back excellent.

From what you have told me I am not sure why she would put you on Clomid either. If you have only had the 1 m/c (I am not saying "only" in the sense that its any less devestating to go through) then there really is no reason that you cannot just continue TTC naturally on your own. Miscarriages occur in about 1 in 5 pregnancies & in women over the age of 35 it is 1 in 3. This last pregnancy was most likely just bad luck, especially since you have had 3 other normal pregnancies. Most docs do not even start baby aspirin unless a woman has had more than 2 m/c's. Why are you seeing an RE if you can get pregnant easily on your own? Maybe I just need some more of your history to try to determine why your doctor is making the recommendations that she is. So far, I don't see any reason as to why you wouldn't be able to just start TTC again right away. If you can give me some more information about your history then I should be able to help.

when i first got with my new dh i had 1 miscarrage at 5 weeks then i went on to have 2 chemical pregnancys then we went to the hospital who then refered me for some bloods to to if i was still pregnant and my hgc was really low low enough to say the pregnancy was lost.

then i was rfred to the early pregnancey unit in case i got preggo again so they could do early scans.then asked icould see an re to checkat all was still normal 37 and dh 41with no children of his own.we had all miscarraige panneling done swabs , scans everything at that time they were offering dh had his sp checked to and that come back good to then i get pregant again and go 10wks and babie died 8 wks i was taking babie asprin and my foilic acid and eating and resting alot i didn nt to loose this babie but did.

anyhow when i went in to have my D&C i asked my re why this happened he was as baffeld as me he also couldnt understand as i have 3 beautiful girls and can get pregnant very easliy he said it could happen again and it could not theres no reason why i carnt continue to have a healthy pregnancy.

we have to go back in august to see what the next step is they never found a reson for my miscarragies.

but there is one thing my dh has a low thyriod we found out after i miscarried he is now on treatment even though his sperm was good at the time of testing im talking nearly 9 months ago i lost my babie 3 month ago could his thyriod have something to do with it his doctor dosnt seem to think so.

I am so sorry for all of your losses, i have had 4 losses myself & I am now early pregnant again & so far so good. The truth is at 37 the risk of m/c is 1 out of 3 or higher. This last loss was probably due to a chromosomal abnormality which is why the baby was able to progress further than the other pregnancies. This would not have anything do with your husbands thyroid, that does not affect m/c. Have you been checked for clotting disorders? Some doctors do this & some don't. This can sometimes cause multiple m/c's but since you have had 3 normal pregnancies I doubt this is the cause. I still think this may just be a run of bad luck in combination with age. The only other thing that could be done is genetic testing on you & DH, but this is extremely expensive & often not covered by insurance. I think that you can probably just TTC again & see what happens. I know this is hard but you will get through it! See what your RE says when you see them. Good Luck

me and my dh have been tested for genitics we have had chromsonal test and karyo typing test done i have also been checked for clotting issues and all come back normal can you see why im puzzled ? you mite be rite it was just bad luck but do you think clomid is my answer ?

Unless there is something I don't know about your history I really dont see how Clomid would help. Clomid does not do ANYTHING to prevent M/C, it only induces ovulation. Maybe you should call your doc & ask why she would want you on Clomid??? Good Luck

hi megan i think ive told yo all iknow about my history you sound just as puzzled as me lol well im glad to hear you are pregnant again many congrats on that i know i could get pregnant so easy but its so scary as to what mite go wrong again i know i should not think like this its been 3 months now and it still hurts like i dont know what but how sweet is this wen i got prenant with the last one we called him or her our little butter bean (not proper name lol) my dh went and had butterbean tattood on him yesterday as a thoughful reminder of what could have been this one would have been my dh 1st born.

anyway megan did u have to take any meds for this pregancy? and did they find a cause for your losses ? megan you are so brave to try again i know im not ready because im to scared.

wen i go back to the re in aug i will ask as to why they want to put me on clomid thinking about it i did ask last time and i refused because i cn concive on my own the re did say it gives you more eggs so u have a beter chance of getting a more mature one. who knows ill let u know how i get on.babie dust to u xxx

They determined that my losses were to antiphopholipid antibody syndrome which is essentially a group of clotting disorders that cause miscarriage & pregnancy complications. There are about 5 different clotting disorders that fall into this category & I have 2! I am on a whole list of things for this pregnancy, which I am sure is why it has made it so far. I am on baby aspirin, Prometrium, Plaquinel, metformin, Folic Acid 4 mg & Lovenox 60mg twice a day. the lovenox is an anticoagulant & is an injection that i give to myself twice a day. Its no fun but totally worth it if it gets us a baby! I also have Lupus so I am sure that played a part in all of our losses. I am pretty high risk, so this pregnancy will be filled with tons of appts & US's & we will have our fingers crossed all the way through the 2nd trimester (since this is when most lupus patients have losses) once we hit the 3rd trimester we will at least be out of the woods for the most part regarding losing the baby.

its so frustrating wen you have no answers sometimes i wish they did find a cause for our losses things would be so much easier for us knowing theres nothing wrong makes it harder.

Even though im 37 it dose go through my mind whether my eggs are any good my re wont do ivf because i can concive on my own oh i dont know megan im at my witts end.
