Hi. i have PCOS and have been trying to conceive for the past few months. I am currently seeing an RE. I was put on Clomid (this is my last round). For the last few months, only my right ovary seems to be producing follies. My left has not produced any. Even with the right producing, I am not getting pregnant. I was told that there may damage to the right's tube. If this is the case, what can I do? Is IVF the only option? Also - if an ectopic pregancy were to occur on my right, with the left not producing would I not be able to have children with my own eggs? Thank you.

Hi Rae,

Have you had an HSG done to make sure your tubes are open? And getting an HSG helps clean out your tubes too! I also have pcos and unfortunately clomid didnt work for me so now I m doing injectables. I would have the HSG done first just to make sure everything is open and then maybe try clomid with iui? I think you are far off from IVF. Lets see what Dr.Q has to say... sending you loads of baby dust and prayers :)

Welcome to FertilityTies Rae!

We're a community where as you see, Keller was giving you correct information about checking your tubes...

With injectable gonadotropins, your RE may be able to have you produce follicles on both ovaries, unlike with clomid so that even if one tube is blocked, there will be an egg for the open tube for the IUI...

IVF does give the highest success rates and is always a good option, especially when it appears to be a tubal factor, if both tubes are blocked, then IVF is the only recourse also to have a child...

Good luck, and keep us posted..

Thank you to both of you. I have an appointment with the doctor next week. I will ask about HSG. I believe he had mentioned that months ago, but said that he wanted to try Clomid first, bc he didnt want to go through with it if it was unnecessary. Also, Keller mentioned trying Clomid again later on. My RE specifically stated that you can only be on Clomid for 3 rounds. Is this true, and why so?

Most people who get pregnant on Clomid do so by 3 months, people still get pregnant after this time period but by 6 months, no further pregnancies are really appreciated according to studies..

Hi Rae,

I wanted to let you know that I also have pcos. My husband and I are ttc baby #1. I took both clomid and femara and never ovulated on either. Last month I did my first month on an injectable medication called Gonal F. It worked great for me, I produced 4 follicles. I didnt become pregnant but it was actually the first time I ovulated in quite sometime. It was the first month we actually had a chance to try. So if you have already taken clomid and havent had luck maybe you should ask for injectables along with iui. They monitor people with pcos very closely while on the injectables so they can tell exactly how many follicles you are making and their size. I would ask for an HSG and if everything is clear ask your RE about injectable meds and having iui along with it. I think it really helps your chances at conceiving. Also, has your husband had an SA done? If not you may want to ask for one of those also. Good luck with everything! Please keep us posted! If you have any questions please let me know, I would be happy to help with anything you need! Baby dust to you :)

Hi again.... Thank you for all the input. We too are TTC baby #1. My DH has had a SA and everything is good in that dept. lol I ovulated each time on the Clomid but never conceived. The first round i surged on my own. On the second round I needed the injection of HCG to make me surge. I am on my third round and was told i have 3 follies that are growing in size. But I am nervous bc all the follies were produced on the right. I don't know why the left ovary is not responding. Does this mean i have half the eggs to work with? And if I had to go the IVF route, how long is the whole process?

Sorry if I ask too many Q's.

Hi Rae,

Many women do have a "dominant" ovary and this is normal and it doesn't necessarily mean you have half the eggs either...if you undergo IVF, you'll see that with the meds, they'll usually be able to have both ovaries make follicles..

IVF takes 3-4 weeks for the process, and have written a post showing all the steps involved with IVF...

Good luck, and keep us posted..
