Weight Loss Advice
August 19, 2008
I mentioned in the chat about how my surrogate and I have lost 160 pounds between us. Some of you asked me to write about this in hopes that it might help someone out there.
I lost my weight starting in January of 2007 and have since gained 10 pounds back due to my own lack of self control, but it has been since May of 2007 that I have been off of my diet and excersize plan. I originally went to a weight loss doctor and was put on pills and a Vitamin B12 shot. I only took the pills for a week and stopped, I was able to do it all by myself. I was able to incorporate my doctor's diet plan into my own style though. I started by enrolling for college classes and signed up for a fitness class in which I had to go to the gym for 30 minutes a day 3 days a week or my GPA would suffer. This was great motivation for me. My other motivation was looking at current pictures of myself which made me cry. I was 251 pounds in a size 22-24 pants. I am 5'6. I went on a trip to Florida to see family and friends and they kept giving me clothes and taking me shopping. I was hurt by this as I felt that they wanted me to look better, or as I used to look before I gained the weight. I had had a c-section with my daughter after gaining 78 pounds during my pregnancy. I had a hysterectomy in 2005 after bleeding for 18 months. The hysterectomy was the same week as my mother's death, and I was really depressed. I laid in bed for about a year. I finally go on my feet again and started getting my life in order, starting with going to school. Anyway, this is how I did it.
I worked out on the treadmill for 30-60 minutes a day, 3-4 times a week. I ate a 1200-1500 calorie a day diet. Yes, I counted everything I put into my mouth. A typical breakfast was one egg cooked in no more than 1/2 teaspoon of margarine. A half of a fruit and 4 ounces of orange juice. 4 ounces of skim milk. One peice of toast with sugar free jam.
A typical Lunch was a whole can of tuna on a HUGE bed of lettuce (lettuce is virtually calorie free), carrot sticks no more than 1 cup worth, a spritz of dressing the spray kind, 4 ounces of skim milk, 4 ounces of juice or 1/2 cup fresh or frozen fruit.
A typical dinner was a peice of lean meat or fish no bigger than the palm of my hand. Tons of frozen veggies steamed or microwaved (no butter or oil) 1/4 Avacado (good fats) , 4 ounces skim milk.
I drank water and diet soda, I did not snack.
I lost 60 pounds from January 10th until June, even though I quit my diet a little in May.
I did not eat fast food, fried food, or sugar. After dinner I might eat a portion contolled slice of sugar free angel food cake or sugar free cake. Another nice dessert was hot frozen fruit with sugar free whipped cream on top.
My surrogate/roommate has lost 100 pounds since November of last year.
When she first moved in, the scale would not register her. When it did finally register she was 320 pounds at 5'5.
She did not eat as healthy as she should. he spluged a little bit on the chocolate cake lol. Her advice is to eat twizzlers as a snack or meal. Quit the sugar soda, that was my thing too. I quit sugar soda when I had started my diet. She worked out at the gym an hour a day 3 days a week. She also walked in circled around our college campus in between classes on lunch break. She has grown out of my old fat clothes, and is looking awesome now.
The proof is in our faces.
I wish you all luck in all of your journeys.

My problem is not eating enough I think. Like today all I had was 6 slices of bacon. lol. I just forget to eat, with having my 3 kids and my sisters 3 kids all day long, that when I get a break I sign on here and catch up and then have to go again and deal with the kids and the house and the dog...lol I do love walking on my treadmill, I walk everyday for 30 min and I try to run for at least one full song on my mp3 player...lol I'll lose a few pds then stay at the same weight and that gets frustrating for me.
Thanks Caryn!
No, we have not reached out goal yet. We both have set a goal at around 160. I have 40 more, she has 80 more. However, she is postponing weight loss as she is TTC for us. I go back to school next Tuesday and will be using the treadmill at the gym again. I have a long lunch break this time. I am not going to diet so hard this time, just excersize more. I am comfortable with my weight right now, but would be nice to lose a bit more. We both have men that love us very much and are of great support, (of everything). I never thought I would be able to lose, and tried a bit too hard at first.
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, in no way does this replace the advice of a phsyician. Always consult your doctor when attempting a diet or excersize plan.
