Does a UTI or the antibiotics used to treat UTI's affect ovulation, implantation, or the ability to conceive if the UTI is present and antibiotics are taken during ovulation.

Thanks.

No this will not affect ovulation. There are antibiotics that are safe if you are pregnate.

Its good to tell the Dr who is treating you for UTI that you are TTC. ALl antibiotics are not safe during pregnency. Please let your Dr know abt your current situation before taking pills.

Agree with Hope in informing your doc about ttc, but most antibiotis won't affect these factors...just worried about a future pregnancy

Dr Q

What does "just worried about a future pregnancy mean". Do you mean that antibiotics would affect a future pregnancy now? Or that if i was pregnant antibiotics would not be safe?

I was just concerned because today was my ovulation day and I didn't know if the actual UTI or the antibiotics would stop ovulation or affect implantation. From everything i read it doesn't, but i wanted to make sure. Don't want this month to be a wash.

Thanks!

Hi anne,

If you were on some very strong antibiotics, such as the family from Ciprofloxacin for the UTI, which are sometimes given, then these can be harmful towards a developing fetus, but they don't affect ovulation/implantation. Many antibiotics, however, are very safe, such as Macrobid, and if you let your doc know you're ttc, Macrobid would be Rx for example...
