Update on Me!!! 13 weeks pregnant and high blood pressure :(
September 04, 2008
Hi Everyone, I am really bumbed out, I went yesterday for my 12 week check up, and now for the past 2 months, my BP has been high, I have NEVER had high BP, and the doctor is worried about it. I am a small woman, before pregnancy I weighed 114 lbs, and I am 5'1", 24 yrs old. On 7/30 my BP was 122/76, and yesterday it was 141/81. I have to go back next wednesday, for them to check my BP again, the doc said I might have to be put on BP medication, and that they will have to follow my pregnancy more closly. I am really worried about this. This is my third pregnancy and never have had problems like this. Has anyone else had to deal with this? I am really worried, I have been reading, and high BP can cause the baby to be small, to come early, and I might be bed ridden later on in the pregnancy. If any of you have had high BP during pregnancy, please let me know your experences, I am in need of support right now. :)
Also we got to hear the baby's heart beat with a doppler for the first time, which was great! It was 150 bpm, that was the only good thing I got out of yesterday's apt.....

Hi Rachel,
I had HBP with my 1st son, I was 24 years old also. Mine sounds just like yours does. At 1st they thought I had "white coat syndrome" which I kinda do now. My OB monitored me closely and I took a Baby aspirin everyday. I was put on bed rest at 30 weeks. I had an ultrasound every week to monitor his growth and my amniotic fluid. The perinatalogist she scared me thou saying I had renal failure. None of that was true, but I was induced at 36 weeks, because my fluid was low. I delivered a 7lb3oz baby boy, who was perfect and is now 16 yrs olds, 5"10 and 170 lbs...Good luck and try to relax and stay calm!!

Thanks so much ladies, I am worried about this, but my OB told me not to worry, it will make me worse. I feel like I am in good hands, I just pray my HBP doesn't get worse as I get further into my pregnancy, as I am just 13 weeks now. Thanks again, and I pray that I do deliver a healthy baby at the end of all this. I go back to the doc in a few days, I hope my BP is down!
Rachel... I am 25 years old... my first pregnancy... 16 weeks along. At my 12 week checkup my doctor put me on 2 different BP pills :( I was SO bummed. That was the last thing I wanted. I have had borderline high BP before the pregnancy, but always had it monitored and it never was high enough for them to start me on antyhing. But now that I am pregnant... my doctor said he wanted to get it under control before I am 20 weeks, cause after that its hard to bring down. So I just kept thinking that my health as well as my baby's will be much better by taking the meds and I got over the "not wanting" to part. I too think I have white coat syndrome because I have the nurses that I work with check it every day and its fine, but when I go in for my appointments its always elevated. Blah.
So... I know you don't want it to be high... but in the long run you will be better to be on a med. They have BP meds that are safe for pregnancy such as Labatelol and Aldomet... so if your doc wants you to start something... think of it positively :) Instead of negative. :)

Great info Maggie, Thanks!
Well, I went to the doctor yesterday, and my BP came down a little, it was 138/78, so better than 141/81 a week ago. They think it will keep coming down since I am in my second trimester now. They want me to come in more often, every 2 weeks instead of every 4 weeks. My Dr. told me "NOT TO STRESS"....Who doesn't! LOL Anyways, I just wanted you guys to know that it did go down, I pray it keeps going down. Oh and one good thing about going in more, is I get to hear my baby's HB more!!!!

Rachel-
My suggestion would be to get your own BP cuff and take your own BP's at home when you are most comfortable.
When I go into the Doc, my BP's are usually elevated. Only because of 'white coat syndrome', I take my BP's at home, and record them for my Dr. and that makes her happy :)
I don't know if that is the case with you too, but it's one way to find out. It just might spare you the BP meds.
