UPDATE on me

May 20, 2008

Hello ladies and Dr. Q:

Last night we had our follow up appt. with the urologist. DH's sperm analysis was an improvement over the last two -- his sperm count is actually quite high, morphology is normal, but motility is at only 20%, which is low. The urologist recommended that we try BD on days 9, 11, 13, and 15. However, given my age (35 1/2), he also recommended that we speak with a fertility specialist. I couldn't pin down the urologist to say that yes, we can concieve naturally. He deferred to the fertility specialist that we plan to see very soon.

On the one hand, it's great the my husband's sperm has improved and is almost normal. On the other hand, we're still not pregnant, and this month marks one year of ttc.

It's such a rollercoaster ride. Hopefully we can get into the fertility specialist soon, so that we can move on to ART, if necessary.

Good luck to all. We're hanging in there by a thread!

Hey Christine, very good news. Have you thought about doing IUI and fertility meds for you. I'm at 37 and my dh and I have issues also and we are in the process finally getting them sorted out. We are working with a testicle cancer specialist and a endocrinologist for his horomones levels. If you would like to talk more about it I'm here for you. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Yes does it suck...omg yes yes yes but this is a good place to have the knowledge and support you and him need to gain.

Hi Angelfish. I'm sorry to hear about all that you and DH are dealing with. Health issues are difficult enough, without also impacting our fertility. Sigh. I wish you both the best.

Yes, our next step is to meet with the fertility specialist and see whether he thinks we can conceive on our own or if we should move to IUI, etc. Although I've checked out totally fine (hormone levels, etc.), I'm concerned that my age is becoming an issue.

I'll keep you posted. I share your frustration about this whole thing. I had no idea ttc would be this difficult!

Christine-My DH and I are still waiting to hear from our urologist so that he can compare the 2 SA's and let us know what the results are. DH had one test done in Feb and the count was low, another done in March and we actually had them fax the results to that one but it is too entailed for me to decipher. We were told by the receptionist that counts seemed to be better but I have a concern about motility and morphology.

I have been TTC for one year like you. If you had told me this time last year that I wouldn't be pregnant I wouldn't have believed it. I just never expected it not to happen by now....

I am 39 and am feeling the pressure for sure. OB Gyn appt in June for regular yearly exam and I am sure at that point she will start looking more into why things aren't happening for us.

Good Luck to you. I hope you get your BFP soon so that you can move on to the fun stuff!!

Thank you dear! Yes work with that Fertility Specialist and he will help you. I have another question for you about the DH have you thought about working with endocrinologist to get his hormones levels sorted. That could be way to help him with what is going on.

May 20, 2008

Good to see you chatting Angelfish!! You're always so supportive. It's nice to have you here.

May 20, 2008

Awww thank you Rae and if you need any help just let me know!

Rae get his hormone levels check esp FSH. If they are low he can take clomid and hcg and if high you and him need to find out why. It will help you both so much. My dh's FSH is high and we have other issues and working with a Endocrinologist is something also.

HEy Angelfish: My husband's hormone levels have all been checked and they are normal. Ditto for me. So, there's no need for us to see an Endocrinologist. I agree that we do need to see a fertility specialist who will evaluate both of us and plot a course that will get us pregnant sooner rather than later.

Rae: Good luck to you, too. It sounds like we're in a similar situation, given our ages. I wish you the best and keep me posted.

Hi Christine if his hormones levels are normal. The next thing would be speaking with a fertility specialist. Keep me posted and wishing you all the ***babydust*** for you dear and for Rae also.

Thanks for the info Angelfish. I am 14DPO today and didn't start AF in am which is unusual for me. So hoping obviously that I just get a BFP!! If not I have an appt with OB/GYN later this month and am going to have her start what tests she can or refer us to RE I guess.

Hi Rae! Have you tested? Next question are you sure that you ovulated via using opk. Somtimes you can have a delay of your period by (+/-2 days) and I'm sorry to say but that can be very normal. Hopefully that is not in your case and this is your BFP news that you have been hoping for. Keep us posted and wishing you ladies ***babydust****

AF came last night Angelfish so it was a delay in my period. Longer cycle than usual. I have been using OPK's and consistently getting a peak for the past few months, not sure if that means I am actually ovulating though? OB Gyn appt later this month so I guess I will take it from there. I've mentioned before ... when I saw her (Dr) last year for my yearly we talked about me trying and she said "OK, see you next year" I thought to myself let's hope not and honestly thought that I would be PG by now. Oh well.

Awwww Rae I'm so sorry...big (((hugs)))) to you and the dh. Yes if you get a peak you should ovulate. I know with the stick opk's that it is 12 to 36 hrs. Plus do you do your temps...that does help to indicate ovulation after it happens. Plus doing the progestorne blood test on 7dpo to see the level you have in your system. Now that doesn't say your preggo but the level ovulation and progestorne in your system. If you have your period you ovulated (red blood flow...not spotting and not brown mucus I would say when you have to start using a pad or tampon). Usually when you get your period you ovulated 14 days before (with a +/- 2 days). Are you using a RE? Some regular OBGYN's don't have the background in infertility and with your ages we need all of the help we need. I know when you are 35 and older that they say if not preggo in 6 mths time to see a RE because really we don't have much time. Don't you just hate that mess....so basically I'm saying if it has been more than 6 mths for you and the dh and not preggo it's time for a RE appt and get cracking (great British term). big (((hugs)))!!!! Keep me posted dear and if you need anything I'm here!!!
