Anna, first I want to start off by saying welcome to this site. My aunt had her 2nd baby at 42. So I personally do not think it has to do with your age. Maybe its more timing than age?...My aunt did not use any type of treatments. In fact it was a surprise pregnancy. My aunt and her dh tried for 9 yrs before having my almost 7 yr old cousin and then almost 6 years later she found out she was pregnant again. So time is an important factor. Age from my knowledge only becomes a factor if the female is about to go through "the change". Hence that might be why Dr. Q recommended stronger treatments like IVF. Most women go through the change in their mid 40s and so it becomes a race against the clock so to speak.
With all that being said: I def would speak to your doctor and see what he/she is willing to do for you. If you dont like what they say or if you desire to then you can always get a second opinion.

You still have a chance, but should consider going straight to much stronger treatments, such as gonadotropins or preferably IVF if possible, and would talk to your doc more about this
Good luck, and keep us posted..
