Ultrasound & Follicles

July 15, 2008

Today is CD 13 and I had an ultrasound done this afternoon to detect follicles. I had 8 on one ovary and 3 on the other.

Here are my questions:

-is that a good number of follicles?

-what happens to the follicles if I do not ovulate?

-Are your chances of getting pregnant increased with the # of follicles you have?

Hi Amy do you know the sizes of the follies. I am no doctor but i think that is important as some may be immature and not rupture. But with so many I am sure you will have more than one mature egg. baby dust!

That's a very good number of follicles, all depends on how many are going to ovulate...if all, that's too many unless undergoing IVF... the one's that'll be <13 won't ovulate most likely..Those that are too immature or small will simply die off, something that happends rountinely all the time regardless, as in unstimulated montly periods, one one ovulates and the rest of the cohort dies off

I'm not sure what the size of the follicles are--my doc should call today with specifics. Today is day 14 and no + OPK yet. What are some reasons that my follicles never release an egg for ovulation?
