Heres a post from Dr Q abt the Screening tests..U can also search the word 'NT' which stands for Nuchal Translucency and search a ton of posts made recently.
"The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) last year (2007) stated "that all women, regardless of age, should have the option of invasive testing"...Invasive meaning amniocentesis and CVS, which has a pregnancy loss rate...
So, if it this invasive screening should be offered to all pregnant women, there's the issue of non-invasive screening (NT ultrasound with blood work, second trimester AFP)...then these which pose basically no risk, can detect abnormalities to about 80%, can and should be offered the information about these other "non-invasive screening tests" to all pregnant women in the first and second trimester..Granted, specialists need to be available who are qualified to perform these procedures.."
