Trying to Conceive Diabetic

July 18, 2007

I am trying to conceive. I am a 23 year old female in general good health and my fiance is 45 years old with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. I am wondering since there is a age difference and he has this condition. How long should we try and what can we do to make our process shorter if possible? I do think we may have fertility issues on his part.

There could be issues on his behalf is he's taking an antihypertensive medication in a family called "Calcium Channel Blockers". This type of medication can adversly affect sperm and thus create infertility. Don't worry though, he would simply need to switch medications and allow his sperm to recover. Make sure he asks his doctor if this is the case.

You have upto a year to try to conceive as long as your periods are regular.
