Trying to Conceive

I am 32 years old and have never had a regular period. My fiance and I are trying to conceive, but when I tried with my ex-husband I was told I don't ovulate properly. My current ob/gyn has me on a Provera regimen, 10mg for 10 days each month to try to kick start a cycle, but I took the provera from 7/23 to 8/1 and so far all I have had is a little spotting and some extreme cramping. I have read up on Vitex and question whether it is safe to use with the provera. Any suggestions?

Also, my mother needed help conceiving, I am twin due to fertility drugs (unknown what kind and mom passed away a few years ago). Are fertility issues a genetic trait? Sorry if I sound inexperienced and naive, I am new to this sight but it looks very helpful.

Oh and 1 more thing, these are my lab results from 7/23/07. My NP says that everything is normal, she was expecting me to have PCOS. What do you think?

FSH 5.1 - mIU/mL

TESTOSTERONE, TOTAL 28 6-82 ng/dL

LH 9.0 - mIU/mL

ESTRADIOL 35.5 mg/mL

PROGESTERONE 0.23 - ng/mL

Hi Amy,

You may simply be anovulatory, but PCOS has not been ruled out quite yet, I don't see a 17 OH Progesterone (for Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia which is highly hereditary in Caucasian &/or Jewish populations). One thing to remember, it is usually insulin for most people the culprit that creates increased hair growth/testosterone levels and makes you anovulatory.

In all, you may simply need Clomid after the Provera to get you going and would talk to your NP or doc about this.
