Trouble conceiving

August 22, 2007

Hello

In 2005 I had an abdominal myomectomy. Three months after the surgery I got pregnant and miscarried very early in the pregnancy. I have not been able to get pregnant since. My qusetion is: Is it posible that I don't ovulate with the release of an egg. I bought and ovulation test kit which came out positive two days before my predicted ovulation day. I took the test again two days later and it was negative. Should intercourse take place as soon as you get a positive test result, because the test says intercourse within the next 24 to 48 hrs is the best time to conceive. When is it really the best time to conceive, on or before ovulation. Will ovulation test be negative on ovulation day.

Hi Tracey,

I'm very happy to know you've pretty much answered your own questions :)

Intercourse should take place the day your kit turns positive and your most fertile days are 1-2 days before the actual ovulation. Most of the time, but not always, the LH kit will be negative the day of ovulation (but I discourage many to stop checking after positive result). For all intensive purposes, a positive LH kit will mean an egg is being released. Since it's been over a year of trying Tracey, would highly suggest you visit a specialist to help you with treatments, and you can use our "find a center" feature on this site to find a doc near you.
