Transvaginal or Transabdominal ultrasound at 9 weeks pregnant?

January 02, 2009

According to my LMP (which I personally think I'm a week behind what the doctors think) I'll be 9 weeks 3 days pregnant at my first ultrasound.

Will the ultrasound be a transvaginal or transabdominal ultrasound? I'm only asking because they did not give me any instructions as to what to do (ie, hold urine or empty bladder).

I'll call when the appointment gets closer (January 23rd), but until then, I'm just curious as to what to expect. DH is funny, he thinks a transvaginal will hurt the baby... he's all, "No one is sticking anything up near my baby!" I was like, "It's ok, really, it will not hurt the baby." He's so funny! First time daddy!

Yup it will be vaginal! But it's not too bad at all and you will be able to see your little bean! Plus around 9 weeks it will actually start to resemble a baby! I had an ultrasound at 6w2d and it was literally a bean the size of a dot, then at 7w5d it was a bigger bean and then at 9w2d you could actually see the bean and then body! So cool! Can't wait until your ultrasound! It will be love at first site :)

I had an u/s at 9 weeks and I had both types done. So it may depend on the office. I'm not sure. good luck!!
