Today's Blood Work

December 11, 2007

Hi Dr. Q,

Today I went to the lab to get my blood work done that was ordered by the RE. They only did one draw for everything even glucose and insulin. If they were testing for IR shouldn't I have drank that sugar stuff? Is it possible that the RE can use my fasting insulin and glucose to determine if I am IR or is this an inaccurate way of doing such? Thanks!

Yes Becky, My Dr initially did the same..She used a fasting sample to see if I am IR and I was. If your fasting Glucose is more than say 100, then she will order for the 2 hr glucose to see if you are actually diabetic and also may check Insulin again..

No Hope that's okay. I appreciate any feedback and comments. So, it's good to know that someone else had the same thing done. So I guess they will only order the GTT if the initial b/w comes back abnormal. Thanks! Yes, let's see what Dr. Q says as well.
