To IVF or Not to IVF...that is the question for Dr. Q

January 02, 2008

Ok..so we've been ttc baby #2 for 18 months..#1 came on first try..no meds. We have unexplained secondary infertility. Dh sperm count is great. My eggs are big and I do ovulate on my own. All hormone levels look great. We are headed on round 5 of clomid and 4th iui. The second round of clomid/1st iui ended in chemical pregnancy. We are considering ivf but do not want multiples..and are concerned with all the shots/medications..as I tend to be pretty holistic. If I was your patient, Dr. Q, would you suggest ivf or try a few more times naturally if this last iui shot doesn't work? I appreciate any feedback!

Thanks so much and happy New Year!!!

Hi Kell,

IVF is always a great option and is always part of the arsenal and can always be recommended for those that are tired ttc, but is a personal choice in those who are younger and have no other outstanding problems...

With IVF, you can elect to have a single embryo transferred to not have multiples, and in actuality is the best route to go for this, so long as you're under 35. I know the shots are scary, but most accept them as part of the treatment to get the FertilityTies Stork to arrive at one's home sooner...

Ok, thanks so much Dr. Q. I guess I thought I'd be pressured to transfer more than one embryo. But if the odds are still good with one...well, then we need to make a decision. Yes, we are young..I'm 27, dh is 30. Thanks for your input!
