To all the mommies (of baby girls)....

August 11, 2008

I was told when my daughter was born that she would have some white vaginal discharge for about 2 weeks and that it was normal and not to worry. Well, she did have that for a little bit but it went away. She is now 3 weeks and I have noticed that she is having morevaginal discharge. It is different from before. It is slightly yellowish/greenish (very light in color) and sometimes I can see it inher diaper when I change her. Other times I only see it on her. Anyway, I dont know if this is normal. Any thoughts?

August 11, 2008

Hey Erin I am sure its nothing, but I was told any greeish discharge could be a sign of infection.. I would call your ped. just to be sure

August 11, 2008

Thanks Caryn..i heard the same thing about the color, that is why I am concerned. I will call the pedi in the morning...better to be safe than sorry!

August 11, 2008

Erin why don't you page the on call doc , it might be as simple as going to CVS to get and OTC cream ??

August 11, 2008

Yeah, I'd just call and ask about it. And, for the record, we have had no discharge with Bea past the first couple of weeks. :)

August 11, 2008

Good idea Caryn but I think I will wait till the morning to call...she doesn't seem to be uncomfortable at all, and I suspect that if my description of the discharge even suggests it could be an infection that we will have to go in for a visit. It is not at all like grown-up yeast infection discharge - its almost like snot... I hope its nothing.

Thanks Ali - how is Bea doing anyway?? Is she sleeping well? Is she colicky?

August 12, 2008

Erin, what did the preditrcian say about Alayna ?

August 12, 2008

Hey Erin, I have noticed the white discharge first 2 weeks and then very slight, I do see a whitish tinge until she was drinking breast milk. I dont see anything now. Good idea to let the Dr know.

August 12, 2008

I called the pedi and we are going in at 11:45 this mornng just to make sure everything is okay. The nurse suspected that it was still part of the expected newborn discharge but said we need to check because of the change in color. So, off I go to get my girl ready....the first of many embarrassing appointments to come for her...lol...at least she wont remember this one!

August 12, 2008

lol Erin, let us know how it turns out. When Tori was a baby, the discharge was whitish and lasted maybe two weeks, not heavy either..so yes, best to get it checked with the color change. Good luck and yep, good Alayna will have no clue what's goin on. Just wait, my daughter is 13 and I had to take her to the ped yesterday for a breathing concern she had (she can't take a full deep breath) and I knew it was nothing but she begged to go and get it checked, so off we went. And she was so embarassed when the doc pulled her shirt up to hear her lungs and breathing...and he BARELY pulled it up too...but she's got her boobies growing and so she was like OMG, KILL ME NOW...lmao!!!!

August 12, 2008

so we got to the doctor and of course Alayna didnt have a drop of discharge. The doc asked if we change our bathing habits or our diapers and I said no - but realized after that I have been using2 different brands of diapers - the ones in her diaper bag are different from the ones I use at home...anyway, I noticed that when we got home (after being diapered in Pampers Swaddlers) that the discharge was back. So I guess we are going to stick to the huggies for now. I like them better anyway! The doc took a culture but didnt think there was an infection or anything. So all looks well for now. Thanks everyone for your concern.

lmao at your daughter Sara. I can remember not wanting my mom to come into the exam room with me anymore when I got to her age. She thinks showing her boobies is bad...oh man, she has no idea what is coming for her!

August 12, 2008

hey erin, may sound gross sorry, but sometimes the poop may get into these cracks and babies do have green colored poop sometimes because of all the iron. I have seen this with mine and I always use water to wash her after potty time. IM glad its nothing more serious

August 12, 2008

Glad nothing more serious.. I too LOVE Huggies..

I was also thinking what Hope said.. could be a bowel movement that gets into all those crevices..

But I am glad you too her to the doc.. :)

August 12, 2008

thanks ladies...no, its def not bowel movements getting stuck...although that has happened plenty of times too...lol...this is def discharge, its lotiony and accumulates.... i hope the culture comes back negative. :)

August 12, 2008

I love Huggies too Caryn. The Pampers are horrible! They have some netting thing inside that gets stuck to her bum when she poops. Not to mention they make her smell like pee the second she goes....yuck!

August 12, 2008

LOL Erin! Most people swear by the swaddlers.. I used them at first and also felt like the netting was weird.. we still use Huggies! Luv 'Em

Well def. keep an eye on it if its discharge and lets hope the culture comes back negative :)

August 12, 2008

Pameper's Baby dry doesnt have the netting. Its similar to huggies. Only the swaddlers and cruisers have the netting. I was using swaddlers and its really good as in very soft for the baby, but we got a big pack of baby dry once by mistake and been using that ever since, it seems to be ok..

August 12, 2008

that netting is so weird to me. I dont understand its purpose! The huggies are working good for us - Layna seems to be comfy...and mommy is happy because they are cheaper than Pampers, plus Huggies keeps sending me 1.50 off coupons!
