Tingling Sensations in Hands?

August 18, 2008

Hi Ladies and Dr.Q,

I have been experiencing something kind of strange for about the past week. At first I would wake up in the middle of the night with both hands asleep and I could not get them to wake up! The only way I could get them to go back to normal is to get out of bed and stand up and they wouold feel better. Then the second I would get back into bed they would fall asleep again... a pain because it's keeping me from sleeping! Well now I am noticing it during the day! Only during the day my finger tips get numb and tingly. What the?? Is this normal? I am 33w5d pregnant and I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I might call my doctor because it's really starting to drive me nuts! And usualy during the day when my fingers are a little numb it's only in my right hand... well this morning it's in both. Isnt this kind of weird? Hope someone can help! Thanks!

I get the tingling in the fingers 2. I was just told that it was common in 3rd trimester pregnancy and that there was really nothing to do about it until the birth. So its common dear. I would just try to massage your fingers to help with the circulation to them.

Wow Angel! Thank you so much! I'm gonna start calling you Dr. Angel! lol :)

Shana,

Isnt it so hard for you to sleep? I was up for like an hour last night trying to get it to go away! It was driving me nuts. And the funny thing is, I am not really swollen at all. My feet get a little swollen and my hands have been a very little bit but nothing major! And no one can really notice the swelling except for me... thats how minor it is! If you go to that site Angel just posted it has some good ways to get rid of it! I'm gonna try that tonight! Thanks Angel :)

Keller, I really dont have much trouble sleeping. Because of the tingling. My trouble sleeping is due to the movement of Trey. But there have been some nights that ive had tingling in my arms, legs, hands and so forth. I end up just waking dh up and having him massage the area that is tingling then it tends to go away and back to sleep we go. I also change sides alot during sleep. I go from left to right and back constantly during the night. But I do expect it to get worse the farther I get into the pregnancy.

Hello, circulation issues are definitely an issue during pregnancy due to the fact that blood is being shunted to the uterus. I would not worry about your symptoms, but one thing you can do to increase circulation is to make sure you are lying on your side, this will lift the uterus up off your blood vessels and allow better circulation.

Keller- mine do the same thing in certain postitions during the day and at night I will wake up to completely numb hands that dont work even enough to grap the covers! LOL

I just usually get up and pee- lol and then they come back to life!!

Its almost time to meet baby Jake!

Thanks so much for answering my question Dr.Eva and girls. It has gotten so much worse! It's 5:20 am and I cant even get back to sleep my arm and hand were so sore and it's so hard for me to type! But it feels much better when I am awake and sitting up rather than laying down. And I do sleep on my sides so I dont know why I am having ti so bad during the night, it's definitly not this bad during the day. I'm going to buy one of those wrist guards so hopefully that helps! Thanks again!
